Day 25

Day 196 - August 18, 2018 - Worked on my full swing before lessons this morning at nine am. Got a good fifteen minutes in, with the feeling being to exaggerate the right arm folding and the lower body doing a little bit on the downswing, but largely being arm driven.

Day 31:

Played 18 hole match with friend. Got whooped 6 and 5, and shot my second straight round over 100. On my favorite course in Houston of all places. I really though I had turned a corner on my OTT move, but as evident from my rounds this month I have lost my new swing positions and have to re-establish them...again.

Day 75.  I am feeling better;  thanks @RFKFREAK for the well wishes.  I hit four dozen balls today;  indoor, mat, into a net, mid-iron.  Still focusing on the evolvr piece, ready to do so at full speed.  I'm having some solid contacts that just sound different than before;  not sure if that's because inside or because better contact.

Day 5

I been looking at some of my videos, noticed I'm taking the club back I think to far inside the line when I start. Concentrated on trying to get wider on the take away. Still checking my set up on every shot or drill.

Day 231

This morning it was 20-50 yard pitch shots to a pin protected by a bunker.

Focus was on alignment, tempo, and clearing the bunker. These were either 1/2-3/4 swings, or something in between. Most were also with a some what open club face to simulate my drop, and stop ball flights. Hit 56 balls, with all of them clearing the bunker. No sand practice this morning for me. (B-)

However, a few shots were what I would consider off line by a few feet. Others were a little short, or long in relation to my chosen landing areas. I am more critical of my practice shots, than the same shots when playing for a score. Just shows more room for improvement in my impact position.

I was hitting balls out of semi rough lies on to the same around the pin. This attributed to the off line, short, and long shots. This course does not cut greens around the pins in their short game practice area. I

Day 43

Decided on a short focus on my 4 & 5 hybrids.  Was getting both loft and expected distance most of the time, Even the two true worm burners I mis-hit traveled 135-150 years straight. Put the alignment rod out and concentrated on ball posit and the worm burners were eliminated.  It's days such as this which point to solutions with a mix of frustration that I still need to spend so much time going back to step one.

Day 32:

Spent about 15 minutes hitting foam balls in the yard. Worked on my OTT move (apparently still my priority piece) and used an alignment stick as a training aid.

DAY 270   Started out by hitting a large bucket of balls on the range -- using three drills I have been assigned to help me keep my head steadier, and improve my movement to my left side on the downswing.

Since the course was available... I decided to play 18 to see how the changes are transitioning to the course.  I played well -- I shot 76 which is 4 over par, and 2 of those strokes were as a result of a lost ball on hole #7.  Didn't make a single birdie... but kept the ball in play and my misses when approaching the green were almost exclusively nGirs.  The weather was interesting in that it was humid with the feels like of 100, until the 17th hole, when the rains came down.  I decided to finish the round... getting soaking wet in the process.

Solid day, looking forward to a practice this week and playing 18 again on Friday, this time with some buddies from where I used to live.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
