Day 25

Went to the range this morning. Hit lw, gw, 8 iron and 5 iron. Then hit the putting green and worked on pitches out of the rough. Long putts and did the circle drill with 4, 6, 8 footers.

Day 196 - August 18, 2018 - Worked on my full swing before lessons this morning at nine am. Got a good fifteen minutes in, with the feeling being to exaggerate the right arm folding and the lower body doing a little bit on the downswing, but largely being arm driven.

Day 31:

Played 18 hole match with friend. Got whooped 6 and 5, and shot my second straight round over 100. On my favorite course in Houston of all places. I really though I had turned a corner on my OTT move, but as evident from my rounds this month I have lost my new swing positions and have to re-establish them...again.

Day 75.  I am feeling better;  thanks @RFKFREAK for the well wishes.  I hit four dozen balls today;  indoor, mat, into a net, mid-iron.  Still focusing on the evolvr piece, ready to do so at full speed.  I'm having some solid contacts that just sound different than before;  not sure if that's because inside or because better contact.

DAY 269   Got in my 5 minutes today using my PuttOut on the rug in our condo.  And doing some drills with my Impact Ball.

Day 5

I been looking at some of my videos, noticed I'm taking the club back I think to far inside the line when I start. Concentrated on trying to get wider on the take away. Still checking my set up on every shot or drill.

Day 231

This morning it was 20-50 yard pitch shots to a pin protected by a bunker.

Focus was on alignment, tempo, and clearing the bunker. These were either 1/2-3/4 swings, or something in between. Most were also with a some what open club face to simulate my drop, and stop ball flights. Hit 56 balls, with all of them clearing the bunker. No sand practice this morning for me. (B-)

However, a few shots were what I would consider off line by a few feet. Others were a little short, or long in relation to my chosen landing areas. I am more critical of my practice shots, than the same shots when playing for a score. Just shows more room for improvement in my impact position.

I was hitting balls out of semi rough lies on to the same around the pin. This attributed to the off line, short, and long shots. This course does not cut greens around the pins in their short game practice area. I

Day 43

Decided on a short focus on my 4 & 5 hybrids.  Was getting both loft and expected distance most of the time, Even the two true worm burners I mis-hit traveled 135-150 years straight. Put the alignment rod out and concentrated on ball posit and the worm burners were eliminated.  It's days such as this which point to solutions with a mix of frustration that I still need to spend so much time going back to step one.

Day 32:

Spent about 15 minutes hitting foam balls in the yard. Worked on my OTT move (apparently still my priority piece) and used an alignment stick as a training aid.

DAY 270   Started out by hitting a large bucket of balls on the range -- using three drills I have been assigned to help me keep my head steadier, and improve my movement to my left side on the downswing.

Since the course was available... I decided to play 18 to see how the changes are transitioning to the course.  I played well -- I shot 76 which is 4 over par, and 2 of those strokes were as a result of a lost ball on hole #7.  Didn't make a single birdie... but kept the ball in play and my misses when approaching the green were almost exclusively nGirs.  The weather was interesting in that it was humid with the feels like of 100, until the 17th hole, when the rains came down.  I decided to finish the round... getting soaking wet in the process.

Solid day, looking forward to a practice this week and playing 18 again on Friday, this time with some buddies from where I used to live.

Day 61, Aug 19

Pitching practice in my backyard on US Open rough. Focused on pivot and feeling like my hip turn was powering the pitch.

    • Today’s Session 8-12-20 GOALS: Same stuff from previous lesson SETUP: Weaker grip, neutral shaft lean, ball forward BACKSWING: Less away going back (lead shoulder down, trail hip up) with leaning tower after P2 DOWNSWING: Bow wrist to close face, go “up” with lead side so I don’t have too much shaft lean at impact 7i Swings SUMMARY: Not a great session. Ball striking felt ugly (flippy and fat) Shaft lean at impact was ok. If you watch the video, my lead knee was bouncing around through impact again I’ve been having trouble with a fade happening out of nowhere. This is probably why. Shaft way to steep here. Not happy about it. Don’t know where this came from either. Ugh I kind of don’t know which part of my swing to focus on at the moment. I’ll to do some mapping at home before my next session
    • Is that really an issue, do people really just walk up and offer you swing tips? I would never do such a thing, hell I hate helping people even when they ask. Literally, I have only had this happen once in my life, had a guy tell me I should keep my left arm straighter. I just told him as soon as he could beat me he could give me advice. He didn't say much after that.  To answer the OP I listen to Airpods while I am putting only. I can't stand to have them in when I am working full swing, I need to hear that contact.
    • As a 15 handicapper, I am clearly not an expert in the golf swing, I am however an  engineer I I understand basic calculation of speed. Mike Malaska's conclusion from his demonstration are shakey at best. The speed of the tip of that stick as it travels a circular path  is directly proportional to the radius i.e the distance from the sternum, to the tip of the stick. If it takes a quarter of a second for make a complete swing, it takes 0.125 seconds to go from top of backwing to impact. If you move your shoulders 90 degs in 0.125 seconds, and you are swinging a 45" driver with an arm length of 22" (total radius 67") your clubhead speed is going to be approx 95 mph.  If you stick the handle of the driver under your armpit so that 40" extends, the radius is going to be closer to 37" and for the same shoulder turn in the same time your clubhead speed is going to be about 52mph. The speed difference at the tip of the speedstick when swung under the armpit vs when swung with fully extended arms is directly related to difference in distance between the tip of the speed stick and the sternum. His conclusion that the arms 'generate' speed is not supported by the results of his experiment. Its the same reason that for the exact same swing the clubhead speed of a driver would be  faster than that of a 7 iron
    • At least they're holding it.  It may serve as a teaser for us for the 2021 Masters too -- although every year's does so for the next year's, this one more so. I am planning my November around watching this event.
