"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

DAY 88   Did drills for address, and backswing sequencing, and top of backswing position with my KPlayer for 30 minutes.  Then spent 3 plus hours on the range doing drills from my GGGA workbook.  All the time trying to focus on bringing the positions and sequence I am working on with my KPlayer to the range, and hopefully soon to the course.   Feel like I am making progress as at the end of the session I hit 5 out of 6 drives long and into the target area -- and felt good about the feel of the swing mechanics.

Swung a 6 iron around for 10 minutes. Worked on some fundamentals, and pivoting. Making sure I'm turning well through impact, and not getting too armsy with my body stalling.

back to working with the Driver.   Slow motion trying to flatten the shaft on the first move from the top.  When I do it right, I get some really nice ball flights. I am Tiger Woods.

Played 9 in the simulator focusing on maintaining level shoulders and not dropping the right shoulder . This is key to keep me from pulling my shot with overactive hand and shoulders.

Day 26

Hit the range today for an hour, worked on full extension on follow through. Really trying to stretch it out, because it looked like I was quick on the follow through. Isn’t get up to woods, spent most of my time on the mid irons. Really trying to get a tighter dispersion in approach shots.

Day 58

Up early this morning, and decided to get in some carpet putting.

Focus is on rolling the ball over a coin 12" or so in front the ball. If I hit the coin, I am hitting my line. My line might sometimes be wrong, but if I don't roll the ball on my chosen line, that's even worse.

I missed a few putts yesterday that I thought I should have made. Just checking my stroke, and face angle..

I am sure I will be doing something else  golf related a little later on. In the past few days, I have played 75 holes. Might just  play another 18.

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

12 reps with a minute pause in between full swing reps with a couple less aggressive warmup reps. Stretching hamstrings. Working on slow movements through the transition. Tai Chi slow with weight shift incorporated into movement. Also keeping the lead wrist well pronated. Full coil backswing, lead arm straight getting past parallel. I have to focus on retaining the C-spine posture. Used a roller to work the upper back/shoulders, lats, glutes and calve muscles.

On a diet. Starting weight 217. Been losing 2 pounds a day for two days currently at 212. Goal is 1 pound a day for 4 days with exercise and higher water consumption. Virtually no fats or salt. Current weight: 210

Driving range yesterday evening off grass, no problems warming up. No dirt in the face as I keep my head turned back a bit, and insure there’s no dirt behind the ball. Hit pretty decent shots. Haven’t pulled out the Mevo lately, but will probably do so either tonight or tomorrow. The grass range uses 100 compression balls and seemed to go my full distances.

2/27/18:

333 days and counting.

Today was a sort of take it easy day. No path drill, no first move down drill. Just worked on putts 10 feet and closer in my living room today. The focus was finding an intermediate point, and rolling the ball over it.

Went to the range and hit a bucket. Range was in really bad condition. Mostly divots, mud, and a few warped patches of grass. Needless to say I struggled to hit the ball well, which wasn't much fun. I think it's best to let these types of days go.

DAY 89   Spent a couple of hours with my golf coach, checking progress and setting up a practice plan for the next month.  My positions are pretty good, need to work some on my right elbow staying more in front on my backswing, and my kinematic sequence needs a lot of work.   So we set up a training plan in the KPlayer for me to use as well as drills for the range.    Went to the range for 90 minutes to work on the drills, and then played 10 holes.   Hit a lot of extra balls on several holes to work on chipping/pitching around the green as the course was quiet.  Felt decent about the full swing changes -- though a LOT of work to get them consistent.

Day 25 - February 27, 2018 - Worked on my swing using the glass patio doors as mirrors with my BeCu PING Eye 2 irons. Spent ten minutes doing it because I think half the time I was just admiring the clubheads. ;-) Tried some shorter swings where the club wasn't "out" so much so it wouldn't be so far left through impact.

Day 2

At the range for awhile. I had a stressful day so I spent the first 20 min just focusing on loosening up. Forward past the ball then into the back swing and through. After that I worked on lower body stability keeping the pressure on the inside of the right foot. Last I spent 10 min working on dropping the hands and getting the butt of the club pointing at the ball. Finished up hitting measured yardage wedge shots

trying to chip like Jason Day.  Keeping path straight.  Historically I have always had a Mickelson style chip.  When I am on, and confident my chipping style is money, but on off days, it can be quite troublesome.  Trying to find something more consistent.   So far, I hate it.  But, we’ll see.

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
