Day 22.  Went to the putting green during a morning break.  After some warm up, I set up a ring of coins at 3' and hit from each one in succession, picking up the coin if I made the putt.  Made 8 of the first 12, then made the 4 remaining on second pass for a total of 12/16 = 75%.  I'd be very happy if I could get my average from 3' up to that (and even improve!)

I then did the same from 6'.  Made 4, 3, 2 on the first three passes, then 0, then 1, 1, 1.  This came out as 12 out of (12+8+5+3+2+1+1 = 32), definitely something to improve from.  But at least I'm now measuring.

That concludes "for the challenge" portion;  I'll end up hitting 2-3 dozen full swing practice shots (the usual) working on my full swing priority piece (setup related) each time, too.

Day 1: Putting stroke.   Working on getting ball started on correct line using a narrow gate 1 foot ahead of the ball on a 5 foot putt.  Also did my Putt Out drill.  Start at 1 foot until a "perfect putt".  Then move back 1 foot.  Make a "perfect putt" from each distance up to 5 feet.  Any missed putt starts the drill over again from 1 foot.

Day 131 - played 18 today with a friend at his course. Drove the ball better but still had a few misses. Chipped two in and pitted well. Pulled a few iron shots.

After being smack talked by the seven-year-old billionaire, I hit some shots after lessons all day. Hit them well, too.

That sounds interesting.  Can you elaborate?  Perhaps you should start charging the kid a million dollars per lesson.

Day 25

I played 18 holes at Oak Run golf course and shot a 95. This round would have ended up as a much better score without the 2 blowup quad bogeys and 3 shots that went into the water.

I was really happy though because my iron play has improved significantly after working through the 1st 3 days of the Covid-19 Practice Challenge. I did struggle with my driver and fairway woods and this may be due to mainly practicing with irons lately. During future practice I'm going to alternate between woods and irons.

Day 212

Superspeed workout and 20 balls with 9-3 swings working on hip turn. Probably should get out the Planemate again for working on my hip priority piece.

Also hit 30 balls each with half swings using 55 and 60 degree wedges with my Mevo to get a feel for distance with this swing. Will do GW (51*) and PW (47*) tomorrow.

Day 23.  Went to the putting green for 20 minutes this morning. After some warm up, I did a "round the clock" from 3' drill -- my usual is to see which ones I make, pick those coins up (I place the 12 coins before starting), and then go around again for the ones I miss.  First iteration, made 8, second iteration made the remaining four.  Second iteration, made all 12 in a row.  I don't think I've done that before -- or maybe, if I did, it was forever ago when I thought putting was the key to moving from 25 hcp to single digits (I now know better!).   If I continue this success at 3' (not necessarily "make them all" but make most), I think I should move it out to 4'?

Prior to going, I reread the grip section of Utley's putting book and the part about gripping the club in the lifeline and fingers stuck in my head.  Not sure if that's meaningful or if today was a fluke.

I would have done more, such as 6' and so on, but they were about to water the green and I was in the way, so I headed out.  I will of course do more long game practice (priority piece in setup, as described) today as I work, and may aim to get back to the green for more putting practice later.

By the way, I'm adding something here about why so much putting practice.  Post-lockdown rounds (8), SG vs 10 hcp;  driving, losing .8;  approach, gain 0.03, short game lose 1.28, putting losing 3.63 -- and the insights tab tells me improving putting from within 10' could gain me 2.5 strokes per round.  Hence the priority.  How much depends on the baseline;  if I compare to a 25hcp (when my SGP these rounds is only -0.01 compared to 25 hcp), it says 2.2, compared to scratch it's 2.7.  Still, it's obvious to me that there's a glaring weakness here.

Day 2:  Played a 2 v 2 scramble with guys from work.  My focus was to get off the tee with a smooth and easy tempo.  The front 9 was tough to judge because it was pouring and windy.  The back 9 cleared up, and i would call my day off the tee a success.  Everything was playable and there wasn't a single miss to the right.  Found the middle of the fairway on back to back tight holes.  Putting was also very good.  Got a lot of comments on the improved putting stroke.

Playing 18 each of the next two mornings.  Hope to keep the smooth and easy tempo going.

Day 132 - Filmed my swing in what felt like 100% humidity this morning. I was soaked after 20 minutes and had to wear rain gloves at the end. Dew point was in the low 70s.

Day 4:

9 minutes golf workout.  I wanted to not over work my shoulders, I bave been feeling it the last few days.

Did my stretching.  Did a cross arm set of 10 swings.  Trying to focus on not pulling up or bailing out.

A set of 10 with sklz gold flex

Another set of cross arm

    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
