"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge

iacas

Recommended Posts

8 reps with a minute pause in between full swing reps with a couple less aggressive warmup reps. Stretching hamstrings. Working on slow movements through the transition. Tai Chi slow with weight shift incorporated into movement. Also keeping the lead wrist well pronated. Full coil backswing, lead arm straight getting past parallel. I have to focus on retaining the C-spine posture. Used a roller to work the upper back/shoulders, lats, glutes and calve muscles. Using a swing sequencing version 3 club simulator with a swing speed radar to do the above. will be using this from now on with or without SS monitor.

Driving range, hit balls, driver is kind of wild. Started using my MP32 with heavier shafts. Irons are good up to 4i and I can almost hit the 3i reasonably.

Day 65

10 minutes putting on the metal ruler at 3 feet and without at 3-6 feet. Working on bead and speed.

I worked on a smaller slower stroke on the ruler. Where I have been sending it down at a pretty good clip, I worked on

a slower pace today. There are putts at my course in season that break 18 inches or more in 3 feet, and the stroke is just a

breath to get it started on line.

Day 65 Travel day. Heading home.

Spent some time putting again. Reads, alignment, and distance  were the focus.

From there I moved to chips. Reads, alignment, ball position, and distances were the focus.

From there, it was 20-30 yard pitches. Same focus as my chips.

My distances in the chips, and pitches included landing spots.

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

DAY 96    Warmed up then played 18 holes at World Woods Rolling Oaks course.   All the work I have been doing is starting to pay off.  I hit 14 GIR, though shot 78.  My putting could do with a lot of improvement.  On the other hand, I was pretty pleased with my ball striking.  Now working with my KPlayer to further build my swing.

Day 32

worked on driver today for 30 minutes. Went from slow swing to speeding it up to full speed swing. Really focused on take away and follow through. Hitting less distance, but now more control and consistency. A lot going down the middle of the fairway now.

Day 32 - March 6, 2018 - Worked on my swing and recorded some video today. Going to record some better video here soon. It's coming along, and looks better, but still needs a lot of work. Totally expected.

3/7/18:

Day 341:

I took another break from my full swing stuff this morning. I worked on a "pitching" motion. For shots in that 30-50 yard range that I struggle with at time... I'm up with Alina getting her ready for school, so I'm working on that while waiting for the school bus, so about 15 minutes or so. I should probably watch Erik's "Quickie Pitching Video" whilst I'm on the laptop... So I figure I'll get my post done for the day.

24 days to one full year.

Since we're into my 12th month in a row, I will post the number of days until I hit one year, in my post. Although as you probably can tell, I hit 365 consecutive days on March 31.

Day 33

putted for 10 minutes to get a smooth stroke with old putter that is lighter. I use heavier putter for fast greens and lighter putter for slow greens. Playing course soon with slow greens and have to beat my brother.

Day 35 - Weather is not cooperating with another Nor'easter coming today. I did 15 minutes mirror work at the gym focusing on hip and shoulder turn from the top and letting lag happen with proper right elbow positions.

Day 66

I spent 15 minutes putting 3-7 feet. Working on aim and stroke. I used the metal 3 foot ruler for a few, then moved out to 4,5,6 and 7 feet. I experimented with my feet slightly open but shoulders and chest square, with some positive results.

Day 66.

Nothing special this morning. About 15 minutes of me swinging my Kallassy club. Only focus was to losen up. Have a some what busy day ahead of me. Some post road trip stuff to take care of. Going to try and squeeze in a few holes this afternoon on my home course. I have played a lot of golf the past few weeks. (16.5 rounds). Might just take it easy for a couple of days.

Worked on my pivot for a few minutes, then made several pitching motions with a wedge. Feels really smooth. Finished up with a few full practice swings without a ball, no video.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
    • Day 283: Putted on my mat for a while watching an NLU video. Worked on keeping my head still primarily, and then making sure my bead is okay.
