Day 380 - January 13, 2021

Did some Mach 3 training today, and made some swings while waiting for a student this morning. Still has to feel very, very "out" even though, when paired with the turn, it's not out at all, really.

Day 3

Bigger Gold Flex work out today, core and bike as well.

Focus on irons was 60-60-100 } I have to get better with ball striking.  Used 6 iron for the drill and hit 30 balls.

Focus on Driver was 60-50-100 hit 20 balls

Center contact consistency is improving, weight transition seams to be improving.

Also taped swing for the "Soft, Straight Trail Arm Challenge".  I hope to get the video up tonight

DAY 41  January 13th... I am squeaking in just under the wire!!  I was in meetings and doing project almost from when I got up at 6:30 until now.  BUT I did fit in 10 minutes of working on my backswing with my Impact Ball and shortened 5 iron.  It is becoming more and more obvious to me that I am not rotating enough on either my backswing or my through swing.  When I do I hit the ball so much better.  Work to do!!

Day 10 - More work with the irons in the backyard.  Focus on not swinging mindlessly but mindlessly swinging.  In other words, keeping swing thoughts to the minimum.  Finding that it helps to relax and let it flow through - almost (and I hate to use the word) effortless.  More time with body core stretching exercises - finding these are really helping with rotation.   It is true - focusing on a specific pays mega dividends.   Tomorrow - hopefully may get to work with the driver swing some.

Day 381 - January 14, 2021

Backswing work in a mirror feeling exaggeration. Lots of file transfers today, so these were in between work.

DAY 42  January 14th.   Excellent three hours at the range today.  Started with the Super Speed Sticks and getting my data.  And it was nice to see my max swing speed it up - 6 mph!!  Then spent 2 hours working through the Motion Drills from the book, "Train for Golf Like an Olympian."   Just still need a lot of work on my swing... but getting better.

Finished with three 15 minute sessions of hitting just one club... 15 minutes with wedges to targets, 15 minutes of 3-woods off the deck and off a tee, and finished with 15 minutes of drivers.  My dispersion with the driver is looking better, I will have to do a little more work to determine that.  Just felt like I was on target... used my Full Pre-shot Routine for each driver and chose a target area down range.

Day 12 - straighter Right elbow with 8i with emphasis on it leaving my right side earlier.  I’ll try to post a video/pic for the challenge in the other thread sometime this weekend.

Day 14 (of last 15) - Forgot to post yesterday, but worked on takeaway.  Today, again worked on takeaway with smart ball at 50% and 75% swings.  Added in the feel of starting the downswing with the lower left side of my body to create the feel of lag.

Day 93: Worked on my drill and added the Soft Right Arm Challenge feel to the drill. I was worried it would change the early extension improvement, but it didn’t. Then I did SuperSpeed training with these feels and hit new highs, 104 with the blue and 100 with the driver.

Day 5

Bigger Gold Flex Day, core, stretching

60/60/100 with Soft Straight Trail Arm - 5 Iron 35 balls

60/50/100 with Soft Straight Trail Arm - Driver 15 balls

Starting to feel positive results, more consistency but the drills need constant mental thought, not automatic yet but I do not feel they will for at least a month of work.  Very happy with how my grip work has progressed.

Utilized alignment stick throughout as well

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
