Day 4: Oct 1

Short takeaway drill session combined with some clubpath drills. It’s helped clarify a question I’ve got for my lesson tomorrow.

Day 38:

Played 18. Mixed results with new backswing feels. Didn't strike the ball great, but happy with an 86 that included 3 penalty strokes and 5 double bogeys.

Day 335, October 1, 2023

Played 18 holes at a course named Thunderhawk with @cedrictheo. Made a backswing focusing almost entirely on my right hand doing its stuff.

Day 5: Oct 2

Lesson followed by range time. Clubpath is in a good place…and I can really up my club speed without losing too much control. This is even translating into fairway woods & driver. I’m also increasingly able to call shots when I’ve left the face open (lessons are inside using Trackman, range is outdoors) - which feels exceptionally weird to do!

Plan now is to mix-and-match practice shots: more controlled to get the clubpath right, then really turn it loose whilst trying to maintain the feels I understand/looking for.

Day 1: 10/2/2023:

Okay, it's time to start this again.
I've actually been practicing a lot, but posting very little. I'm streaky that way.

Anyway, today I was at the outdoor range. (BTW - What a beautiful day!)
After warming up I worked through about 15-20 balls focusing on my priority pieces with a 6 iron. = Block practice.

Then I spent the rest of the time working on my start line. I chose targets on the range (every time a different target and a different club = Random practice.) I made an effort to set up to target no matter which way that caused me to face in my little range stall, and get the start line right. Of late, my ball flight has been pretty good.... I mean mostly. But my bad misses come when I badly miss my start line.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Day 336, October 2, 2023

Played 18 holes at Milwaukee Country Club. I enjoyed it. The fairways run directly into the bunkers, too, which is cool.

Hit a small bucket at the range, focusing on my main piece because I have strayed away from it. Played 3 holes and then did a Stack Premier putting session.

Day 2: 10/3/2023

Back at the outdoor range today.
Spent 20 balls working on my priority pieces with a 6 iron. - Block Practice.

Spent the other 50 balls trying to hit targets. Random Practice.

I literally aimed at any target from about 35 yards to 250 yards. On every shot I focused on my set up and my start line. I graded myself on every shot as well. I used the very scientific Really good/Good enough/Not good enough/Piss-poor scale. Here's what I gave my self.

  • 11 were really good. - If I hit every shot like these, I'd be very happy.
  • 30 were good enough. - These were within an acceptable amount of error.
  • 7 were not good enough. - These are the shots that would definitely cost me strokes.
  • 2 were piss-poor. - These shots were ones where you just kind of hope nobody was watching. These shots need to be eliminated all together.

One thing I found interesting is that if I was aiming toward a target in the center of the range or to my left, I felt very comfortable and confident. When I had to aim at targets out to the right of center it was much more difficult for me to "feel" like I was properly aligned to the target. Personally I think this has mostly to do with the perfectly square mat I'm hitting off and fighting the instinct to use the edges of the mat as a sort of alignment stick.  But, it's a data point.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.
