Day 34: Did the yardstick putting drill for a bit. Was hoping to do a bit more, but the day was busier than I anticipated.

Day 31 (October 5).  Went to a putting green this morning after yesterday's success;  was not as successful, but did the 4' drill at two separate holes (36 strokes each time -- basically, the bogey golfer baseline).  I have come to realize the key to scoring well on this drill is to get a large number of stations to drop on each of the first two go-arounds (sudden flash of the obvious:  my putting statistics improve when I make more putts).

I got home and spent 30 minutes (so, a little more than a dozen balls) in my golf practice room, same priority piece as before.    I'll continue this as a bit as I complete to-do items at home before going to play later today.

Day 371 - 2025-10-06

Played 15 holes (skipped 9 to pass a group, skipped 16 and 17 to do the same).

The four holes I need birdies, I hit it to about 20 feet. I feel I would have made one or two of them, but… punched greens. Hit the ball decent.

Day 35 (7 Oct 25) - Walked nine holes today - used only the irons and wedges, played a set of tees back as well.  Forced the use of the longer irons and also looking at each hole’s goal as being bogie or better mentality.  Great day of staying in focus and making most of course management.

The nice thing about the five minutes daily challenge is... it still works, even if you don't take much more than five minutes.  Today was a long day at work, but I still was able to get some meaningful practice in.  Now I think of all the times I didn't.  Anyway.

Day 33 (October 7) -- took the time for five good practice balls after a long day of work.  Setup, rehearsal, check positions, check again, bring the ball in, set up, hit it, repeat.

If you have only ten minutes to practice, make them ten good minutes.

Day 34 (October 8).  After work and before evening plans, I had ten minutes in my golf room.  I hit 8 balls, which means I was probably going faster than I should have, but I really did rehearse and focus on the feel I was looking for.

    • Day 65 (6 Nov 25) - weekly nine hole session with my friends playing up a set of tees.  As always a casual session, got in some great course management work as I was dealing with some straight pulls off the tee, so recovery shots were the drills of the day.
    • Day 402 - 2025-11-06 Practiced for only about 15 minutes today. Used the mirror and foam balls. Backswing almost entirely. Helped @DrizZzY for some of the time after and before, too.
    • I agree. One of the main problems with the old UK system was how slow it was to catch up to changes in ability. The WHS reacts far more quickly in both directions too (maybe different at 20+ handicap, but below 5 it for sure does).
    • I know, and so he's got to consider that if his handicap went up FOUR strokes, it was through play likely quite a bit worse than even that, because that's into the soft cap, and so… keeping his handicap down at only 1 or 1.5 higher would not represent how he had been playing over 15+ rounds. Again, it's still fifteen rounds. And some really bad scoring for 15 rounds. He has an "outdated" definition of "quick." It is the way it is because of reasons, and my suggestion is that he consider them. Not just react with "this isn't like how it used to be…".
    • He's from the UK. Under the old UK system, a handicap going up 4 whole strokes would take a long time. Only changes in competition rounds, of which you might have 12-15 per year. Then from 18 to 22 you'd have to shoot more than 4 shots worse than your handicap (up to 20) and 5 shots worse (above 20 to 22). Any single round that's better than your handicap brings you down by 0.3 (under 20) or 0.4 (20 or above) per shot better than your handicap. Even if you played absolute rubbish every time you go out, it would take you upwards of 2 years to go up by 4 strokes. On that basis, 5 weeks is extremely quick.
