Day 12

Played 18, played very poorly so I had lots of practice due to so many attempts to hit the ball.

The Driver just disappeared, frustrating as the last time out on Thursday i was crushing the ball

Day 32:

Hit a lot of balls at the Chautauqua outing today. Had my first golf lesson ever, and I couldn’t be happier with the direction I was given.

Lots of work to do.

Day 235

Played 18. Tried to work on my dynamic hip feel. Hit more pushes/blocks off the tee than I’d like, and some approach shots were unintentional high, spinny cuts that landed 1 club shorter than a normal shot. Pushes/blocks are a path issue and the unexpected cuts are a club face thing, so noted that on my scorecard for next week practice.

Day 33:

Did 5 minutes of practice backswings in front of a mirror before bed with a focus on the newly developed feels to help effectively engage the lower body.

Day 13

Spent 15 minutes putting on my mat in the garage.  Wow I have one nasty left to right break with the current set up

Day 46

Full swing practice with my PW and 5i. My main focus was keeping my trail arm tucked in during the swing.

Been awhile since I’ve done putting practice so worked on setup and hit some 5-6 footers in my living room.

Day 46.  Managed five minutes with my usual routine of 8-iron and 6-iron, indoors, off a mat, into a net, first two plush then real balls.

Went away with the family for the weekend.  I did my 5 minutes every day, but didn't get around to posting here, so we start again at 1.

Day 1: Went to a practice bay at PGA Tour Superstore.  Wanted to hit full and partial wedges (gap, sand, and lob) on the launch monitor.  Really happy with the consistency and knowledge from the session.

    • Very recently a thread was started here about PingEye2 iron sets and subject was some folk (experienced players) were seeking out these clubs to play AGAIN.  I have played Eye2 irons for many years, now on my second set as the first set was stolen.  As old as this design is, people have always got good memories and respect for these clubs.  and you can find sets for $100 or less ALL DAY LONG.  Buy a set, re-grip, and he's set up - to see if he likes the game.  With the difference from buying sets suggested, you have $$ for that driver and putter (these clubs will be more per each than a couple sets of Eye2s). and a bag. Be sure to put new 'velvet' grips on the properly fit clubs (according to the Ping site) and your son will have the best starter set he could find - and he may just play them for years to come.  You know, you're Ping.  PS - I had been planning on a new set of irons just because but when I tuck one up close from 100 or 150 yards, I forget about it.  I am shopping putters tho.
    • Seconding this. Pretty much any OEM's game improvement or super game improvement from a couple model years ago will give him the performance and forgiveness he needs for a solid price. Just make sure you do your research on the ebay seller. I've had good success with it, but if you are more skeptical, there are plenty of second-hand retailers online.
    • It's up to the Committee to decide, in advance, and publish for the competitors, what the rules are around handicaps.  What any of us thinks is "right" should be overruled by the specific rules of the competition.  Now if I'm on that Committee, I would want to use the handicap as of the date of the match, but I'm not the one making the decisions.
    • Thanks for that info. I recently injured my left knee (I'm a righty) and tried to continue playing with a brace on and then added a cortisone shot. I finally wound up with gel injection which does help with pain relief except that my brain doesn't want to fully shift weight back ro the left side. The injury is not structural, it was a re-injury of a 6 year old meniscus tear that I had 2 months of intense PT on and had not been a concern since until post-Covid return to play. My golf swing stops without releasing my body because of weakness and lack of stability. So I tried a foot flare on my left side, between 35-40 degrees. A much smaller flare on right foot, and I opened my shoulders a bit to accommodate. In practice swings without a ball it feels much better and I can swing through. Does that sound right? I will try it at the range because I am stumped getting "through" the ball otherwise.
    • Go back and look at Golf Digests Hot List from 5-7 years ago online and find the game improvement category. The Hot List is a bit of a joke I realize but you will see the offerings from all the big companies for that year. Then just go on Ebay and see what you can find putting in whichever club looks good. Ping, Callaway, Taylormade, Cobra, Cleveland, all good options.
