Day 47

Played 18 at Southern Pines. Much improved ball striking with my longer clubs (Driver, 3 wood, hybrid). Inconsistent with low to mid irons. Solid full wedges. Horrendous chipping and putting. Only one lost ball off the tee for 2 strokes. No other penalties. Overall I saw progress but did not score well.

Day #8

Practiced driver with impact labels prior to round.  Still tending to crowd the ball.

Day 61

I played 36 holes today at 2 different courses. Both rounds consisted a solid Front 9 with the Back 9 going south on me

Same thing as yesterday, but with an 8-iron, and no superspeed or driver swings

Day 99.  Today should have been a speed sticks day, but I'm playing tomorrow so instead it was the medicine ball drill from LSW.   Indoors, 12lbs, on the mat for some reason.

Day 18 - chip & putted for 30mins, then hit a few 9i, 5W, and driver on the range.

Driver & 5W: A-

9i: C

not sure why I struggled so much at first, but my tempo was too fast...once I figured it out, hit it much better.

Day 48

Back to my normal practice today. Slow swings with a foam ball focusing on eliminating OTT.  Started using a 4i in addition to my 7i hoping to figure out those longer irons which are killing me. Although, to be fair, I didn't really hit even my 7i well when I played yesterday. I was just off a bit on everything. Lots of thin shots with my irons other than my wedges. I feel like I'm close to moving on to other elements of my swing since the shallower swing and feels I use are starting to feel more natural to the point where I'm almost able to not think about them.

Day 100.  Played 18 with a friend.  Five sevens, but no sixes.  Shot a 94.  Six GIR.   I'll do the GG thing later to figure out what's been going on.

Day 290

Played 18 today. Was actually a decent round except for two quadruple bogeys on holes #9 and #16.

Day #9

practiced 50 & 75 yard approach shots at the range w/ TrackMan Range.  These are less than full swings and I need to figure out how much swing I need.  Used Sand Wedge for all shots.

Day 49

Same old routine. Boring but I feel good working on one thing until it sticks.

    • Head of my home organization has approved my involvement with this excursion.. So barring anything out of my control I am looking forward to it. Big part of the reason for my immediate interest is that these courses (especially Mammoth) were already on my short list of destinations to plan a trip next year including Cabot Cliffs/Links and Streamsong, which I will plan for the following years to come now.  Anyway, couldn't be happier to join this group. Hopefully the planet will still be rotating Eastward next July as it is today...😉
    • It certainly could depend on the format.  If you need 4 scores from 5 players, for instance, maybe you could take a flyer on one guy like that.  If its match play, maybe you can take a risk on losing just one match really quickly.  But if you put out 6 players needing 6 scores, do you take the chance that one player's poor day kills the entire team's chances?  I'd still take solid and steady in most circumstances, I'd still prefer to BE Mr. Consistent.
    • Well, played final round at home course yesterday and checked off #10.  Should have pared #17 but stupid 3 putt, should not have happened!  Overall for the year I golfed 11 rounds at the course, got par on 12 holes, no birdies.  The holes I failed to par are the 1,2,3,4,10 & 14 Handicap holes. The #14 handicap hole was a par-3 and I can't believe I never got par on it.  The #10 handicap was the hole I 3-putted for bogey yesterday.
    • I think in a big match, like an NCAA Championship, the coach might want to roll the dice and go with Mr. Erratic to have a chance of winning.  Or of finishing last.  The "all-or-nothing approach" .
    • I've never been on a college golf team, or even high school, but I think Mr. Erratic might not get a lot of playing time.  If the coach can't depend on you to at least play "decent", why would he select you to play you at all?  I'd rather be Mr. Consistent.
