Day 382 - January 15, 2021

27 balls focusing on the "out/up" part of the backswing. Some half swings (which were longer than that), some bigger. Also did my speed training stuff, with the Mach 3 stuff.

Day 397

Took it easy today and just hit some balls with 6-iron working on priority piece, with lots of slow rehearsals between balls. Also did a little bit of putting around the dining room table (on a rug).

DAY 43  January 15th   Started out around the chipping green, working on tempo using a Metronome.  Set at 65 bpm it smooths out my swing, ... I tend to rush on the downswing... so it helps.   Then over to the putting green for an hour... did the STAR Drill from 3 feet, (5 tees set up in a star pattern around the hole).  Had to go around 5 times without a miss -- which means you have to make 25 in a row.  Did that then distance drills from 20 and 30 feet.  Finally off to the range to work through some drills to help with rotation and stability  over the ball.  Finished with 20 drivers -- I can feel and see I am hitting them longer -- the Super Speed Challenge is paying off.

Day 11 - Worked on post impact follow through as I tend to stop rotating and making chicken wings.  Was able to do late setting sun chips/pitches where I could barely make out the flagsticks in the fading light.  Went to “see it/feel it/trust it” mode focusing on what I am feeling thru the setup, backswing, downswing and follow thru.....

Day 12 - went to range for first time in a good while & worked on my PP, straighter right/trail elbow; completed the associated challenge; seeing some improvements with it in the MySwing thread.

Day 398

Played 18. Pretty rough round today, priority piece just not coming together quite right. Probably need to get some time on the driving range to see how different feels are translating to ball flight.

If I have energy this afternoon I'll do a superspeed workout and log in the TST gSheet.

Day 94: Cat in the Hat kind of day, so all I did was chipping in the basement. I also plan on taking one day off each week for full swing work.

Day 12 - set up the net in the back yard today to allow for full swings with all irons and metalwoods.  Work on driver face impact, i.e. footspray on the face.  Focus was on keeping the ball strikes in the center.  Did okay, most were just below centerline on center or just toward the toe.  Also work on the long irons, tend to fat them.  Used the mini mat setup about 6" behind the ball to keep from hitting fat.  This worked!  Will pick back up with tomorrow with more work on ball contact.  Also learned a great lesson - 7irons will clear the net if you set up just right.....had to retrieve one ball from the neighbors back yard....at least there was no broken glass or dented vehicles.

DAY 44  January 16   Spent a couple of hours on the range half of which was hitting drivers.  Trying to build more speed and consistency of hit.   I hit a few irons, but the grips... needed to be replaced, so I headed over to the PGA Superstore to have 6 irons re-gripped for free!!! Yes, FREE because I had a gift card :-)

Day 383 - January 16, 2021

Mach 3 stuff to demonstrate, not for me (I’ll do mine tomorrow), then in the few minutes I had between juniors and a group of five adults, hit about 15 balls. Less exaggerated than the previous time(s).

Day 13 - more straighter right elbow work. I was crushing it today (for me anyways). Admittedly, I had secondary focus of initiating the downswing with left hip and I think that was helpful. But ball contact felt great

Day 16 (of last 17, 3 in a row) - Used a rocker board to help with weight shift.  First time using one, didnt feel great while using it, but swings after using it seemed pretty good. Getting close to putting up some progress on my swing thread.

Day 384 - January 17, 2021

Small reset. Same backswing feel, but focused a bit on a turn and a small pressure shift, as I've been exaggerating it and then had to be super aggressive about going forward.

Hit some good ones at the right height and some shallow divots after awhile.

    • I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
