Day 41 - March 15, 2018 - Backswing work in the mirror (patio doors) between Tiger Woods shots on PGA Tour Live.

Nobody ever really talks about Tiger's tempo, and I think it's tough to change, but I think mine will be ever so slightly different. Backswing might take the same amount of time, but since it's shorter, the "tempo" will be different.

Day 73

Spent a hour on the practice green with my next putter. Notice I didn't say "new putter". I have had this critter for quite a while. Just getting use to it, which will take a while.

After 36 pin positions, assuming two putts for par, I three putted 8 pin positions. I one putted four others, which left me at +4. (76)

Putts we're from various lengths from pin to pin. Probably from 8 to 50 feet. Half had breaks to deal with.

Might play 9 holes later today.

Day 74.

I click to post my day 74, and there is my day 73 waiting for me to submit, which of course I thought I already did. :hmm:  I am going to take the 5th, since temporary insanity is not an option.

I left the house to go to the range. It's a "off the grass" day. Cloudy, but no wind. It did sprinkle earlier this morning.

I get to the range, and there is a formidable wind directly in my face. Not a problem. Now is a great time to practice my knock down, into the wind shot. My punch, and knockdown swings are basically the same.

So, ball back in my stance a little, choke down on my club an inch, or so, then use 5/8-3/4 back swing.

Focus was to keep the ball low, with a shorter, controlled swing. Also club selection for various distances. This wind was probably a club and a half wind, so I went with  2 clubs. Example being  hitting a 7i distance using a 5i.

Also has to watch my balance. If a gust came up suddenly, I would back off the shot, and start over.

DAY 115   Spent 2 1/2 hours on the range using Motion Drills from my GGGA Workshop to improve my pivot and downswing sequence.  I am making progress on improving my pivot!!  Then spent an hour on the range hitting putts from 5 feet as part of the 10,000 Putt Challenge.

I just noticed that DAYS 103 to 113 are missing as is Day 114 ..  I posted this yesterday.   I am going to have to revisit The Sand Trap every day after I have submitted a post to this Thread to insure my post is posting properly.    I am doing something wrong... and will figure it out.

DAY 114   Spent 10 minutes on the putting green working on distance control... before warming up for a round of golf this morning at World Woods - Rolling Oaks course.  Shot 77 while hitting 15 GIR during a very windy day.   Did some things well and a lot of things still to improve.  So lots of long and focused practice sessions over the next week.  Now to rest and dream of shooting my age again!!

day 2, more chipping. same emphasis as before: quality of contact. I experimented with my address, with my uprightness. Found that standing slightly more upright improved where my club bottomed out (after ball contact). still not close to where I want to be, but all these reps is helping me think thru things.

Day 75

Today was chip/putt practice. Nothing scientific about it. Just a little game I play.

I take one of my game balls and drop it off the green about 5-6 feet. I then chip to what ever pin I want, then finish up with my putter. 18 pins, from 18 different locations. Par is 36. Today was a good day with a score of 34. I had 2 chip in, and no 2 putts, which was my focus.

I can also relate this 34 to my overall game. When I golf, I have a target number of 80 for a score. That 34 also means I "might" have had 46 strokes for my tee to green game. 10 extra if I want to look at it that way.

Like I said nothing scientific about it. Just a fun, focused practice.

More first move down and keeping my path slightly inside-out drills today. Main focal point was keeping that trail arm close to my body.

Day 42 - March 16, 2018 - A week before my birthday. Making some practice swings with a swing "stick" in my living room working on the elbow freedom in the backswing. Early fold, set the box…

DAY 116    Spent three solid hours on the range working through Motion Drills from my GGGA Workbook.   Focusing on downswing sequence and staying in posture.   Headed toward the putting green, but realized I was too tired and needed to eat.

Day 3

90 minutes

had a 60 minutes lesson with the same gentleman who fit me for some new clubs a few weeks ago

very knowledgeable guy, much older, but a sharp eye and not at all interested in quick fixes. I hit literally 5 balls the entire time, the rest was spent addressing sequence and tempo and slow motion drills

the remainder of the time was spent warming up.

very encouraged with this lesson, set up a second two weeks from now

Day 2 - Missed a couple of days due to travel, shoveling and swimming with dolphins! Playing my 2nd 18 of 2018 today. Yesterday played the first since last August. I’m rusty, but my knee held up fine. I have lots of work to do though.

Day 31 - got some chipping/putting in this morning in prep for tomorrow's round. Chipping focus was on low point control and distal control.

Day 76

Spent some time carpet putting this morning. I only used my left hand, as my right arm is in a sling for a few days.

I have seen folks putt, pitch and chip with one hand, or the other.  Never much tried it myself. Now is my chance to give it a go.

It's kind of awkward, and this Heavy Putter is, well feeling pretty heavy. Might try some left handed chips, or whatever with a wedge later on.

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
