But one more dumb question, how does it differentiate between practice and real swings?

It doesn't. There is a sensor in the belt unit that detects movement in case you forget to tag, but it can also trigger from running, hopping up or down hills, etc.

If you make some practice swings and then tag the unit to get ready to hit the ball, the device generally assumes that the only shot was the tag and doesn't record anything else. Sometimes weird things can happen though so it's important to pay attention when you edit.

I'm disappointed that they are moving to the Arrcos model of "tapless" auto-detected swings.  I wish they'd at least give the option; I really like the lack of ambiguity with the tap.

The tags look quite a bit bulkier.

I'm kinda sad that he didn't continue to push that, and that some people couldn't get over tagging. It's not something I really even think about anymore, and you get such wonderful data from it.

It's part of my pre-shot routine, and when I don't do it now I feel weird. The tag on my 8i broke and I'm waiting for my new one, but I still tap it on the sensor, when I don't I think about how I didn't during my shot lol.

My GameGolf package came with multiple extra tags with symbols on them, if you have those, just assign one to the 8 iron in the meantime if you want

Ya I will probably do that, but I just noticed it had broken in the middle of a round.

Anyone have a good solution for a counterbalanced putter?

I used this method. Works perfect.

Thanks for the link. I tried that and lost an Arccos Sensor.

I really was hoping that the black cap I saw in the pictures was something to get better putting stats.  Like many have already mentioned if we could get more accurate or detailed putting stats that would be awesome.

My dad just got a GG LIVE last week.  I will be teaching him how to use it this week. Hoping that he loves the unit like I do.

Putting stats are just a matter of them doing it, but they don't seem to be interested in actually giving people more useful stats.

And the GAME GOLF Pro that they have on their website isn't even a physical thing. It's just a CAD rendering or something at this point, many, many months later.

Just got an email from Game Golf with an offer to purchase Game Golf Pro for $229, which is $119 off retail price of $349.  Not worth full retail $349 in my opinion.

Email offer states they will be shipping January 4th.

Lack of hole location accuracy with Game Golf Live was the shortcoming I hated the most... I disliked having to remember hole locations and drag the flagstick to an approximate point on every hole post round.  Also didn't like how the app crashed mid round fairly often. I also don't like the move to the Arccos style sensors.  They consume batteries, and are expensive to replace... unlike the small NFC chip tags.

I've been happier with Shotscope v2 I purchased on pre-order last year.  Small tags without batteries to worry about, cheap to replace if lost or broken (unlike Arccos or now Game Golf Pro), no tapping to a device needed, accurate and reliable, allows you to mark pin locations for better putting stats, and doubles as a GPS Watch for distances to front back center of greens and hazards.

Cons to Shotscope are that you have to wear the watch, and do need to press a button on the watch to mark the pin location for best accuracy and stroke counting... but you can also just not tag the pin location and edit later, no live editing on your phone... all editing is done post round download, and the battery life on the watch could be better.  I can get about 6hrs max out of it before it needs to be charged.  It'll get me through 18 holes with life to spare, but if I were doing 36, it won't last long enough for those marathon days.

Trade offs with each.. but I prefer Shotscope v2 for the pin location feature, GPS watch that I use often even when not tracking shots, and smaller NFC chip sensors.

What is your solution for GameGolf to detect where the flag is?

Flag locations can change on a weekly, even daily basis if you are playing in a multi day tournament or something.

It gets pretty close on the short putts when you tag it before you do a tap in, and in reality you likely wont make all that many outside of 10+ feet each round where it will be super far off anyways.

Game Golf doesn't have a solution for pin locations, aside from moving the pin to an approximate location after each round, for each hole, during post round editing.

With Shotscope, as I take my ball out of the hole, I press a button on the GPS watch that marks that GPS location as the pin position... so it has been much more accurate as far as pin locations, and much less post round editing required.

It's still not perfect... remembering that GPS location accuracy is at best within 3 feet... but better than always showing the pin in the middle of the green, and having to move the pin every hole during post round editing.  With Shotscope, I rarely have much post round editing to perform... and when I do, its usually because I need to add a stroke for drop or penalty or something.

That's not entirely true. It puts the pin about 2-3 feet away from your last putt… and if someone else has played a round at that course recently and adjusted the hole locations, it sets them to those locations. I've had a number of rounds where I set the hole locations (some barely needed any adjustment due to the first thing I noted), and my daughter would play later the same day or the next day and they'd all be set already.

GPS isn't even all that accurate. +/- about 10 feet. So I'd have to edit those hole locations anyway.

3 meters. Larger if you're amongst tall trees or it's overcast, etc.

In my experience, my unit rarely had a pin location anywhere but middle green when I did my post round edit.  Maybe it was just my unit or my course, but only on rare occasions would it approximate my hole locations, and when it did.. they were still quite a bit off.   YMMV though... Still a good tracker, but I prefer the ShotScope v2 so far, having used both.

Everything that @iacas said, plus editing on a computer post round has never taken me more than like 10 minutes even with moving the pin positions when necessary. I'd say on average it's closer to 5 minutes per round especially when editing on a computer.

It does take a little longer on a smartphone but still is under 15 minutes.

It could be that other players who use Game Golf rarely or never play your course. My home course is very busy. So the chances are high other players are also using Game Golf which usually means the pin locations are pretty much set up for me by the time I review/edit my round.

One solution could be to stand over the hole and tag one extra putt. That will effectively tag the pin location. Then during your review/edit of the round, just move the pin to your last putt and delete the last putt on each hole.

That's been shot down (with good reasons) several times already.

    • How have you been? I was wondering what happened to you since I have not seen you around lately. Yes, my current club is only 5 mins away and Paako is exactly 30 mins door to door. It’s not too bad since the drive is easy. I was able to get the tee time I want all the way to July! No need to stress or scramble to get a time. It is alot more expensive to play there but they only have 50 members v. hundreds at other clubs. I am going to enjoy it as much as possible. I am still a member at my club for this month, so I will play there during the week and head over to Paako for the weekends. So far, we really like it there and I am eyeing a home in the community....we will see. I have only played 4 complete rounds since starting golf in May and I have been doing pretty well. I should be able to maintain my hcp eventhough Paako is alot tougher (72.9/141) v (69.5/129). I scored 78 twice already! Woohoo! I have not bought any new clubs since the m5 tour but am eyeing a SIM now. I cannot resist if it somehow gives me extra 10 yards!  I am sure you will reach your goals in no time once you golf more! I probably need to work on my putting too as I am giving strokes away too easily... Take care!
    • Hi Ace: I hope you are doing well. Sorry to hear you resigned from your current club.....I know it was so convenient for you as you could get there using your golf cart....I hope you didn't pay an initiation and losing the cost of that initiation. In my 52 years of playing golf....I've never heard of a course being run like a gong show...the GM and head pro seem so INCOMPETENT....and the culture doesn't seem great....a culture that doesn't seem friendly. Glad you joined Paako....the best course in NM...but the 1 hr return drive may eventually get to you....considering you like to play daily.....I assume this might be a short term fix until you and your husband decide what other/closer course you might want to join. It's shocking that metro Albuquerque with nearly 900,000 residents doesn't have more club choices to join. Take care. You still sporting your 5.5 cap?.....I assume you got back your 440 M3/M5?...you planning on buying any new clubs this year?....I don't have any plans for new equip...still deciding if a new/used Hungtintion Beach putter remains in the bag. My ball striking has improved in my last 4 rds...but still giving away 4-5 stupid strokes per rd...my cap is at 8.0....goal is to be around 6.8 - 7.5 by late July/Aug.
    • The lesson was bit "meh", could of been partly because I had really bad headache. It's been actually so bad that I've taken few days off course completely and had a visit to a doctor. Instructor basically told me three things: 1. My upper back and chest are extremely tight, have so called "facet lock" if that's the right term in English 2. I slide a lot towards target during my downswing, making it hard to hit driver 3. I should check the lie angles of my clubs, 1 degree or so upright could help. For number 2 he gave me a drill where you set yourself to impact position and start the backswing from there. I pointed out this could work as a trigger move for me, he agreed. Will work on this surely, but I feel now it's not the time. I asked him few times about my wrist condition at the top of backswing, but he didn't feel that's a problem which made be bit disappointed because I feel it clearly is after watching the day 4 drill. Taking the wrist action as my number one priority to fix, because I feel there's many things that arched position at the top is preventing me from doing. Been working on it bit inside and today got to hit some balls. In order to have a chance to get that cupped wrist position at the top, I felt like my backswing direction had to change, the plane looks completely different now. I checked the wrist position multiple times before swinging, but I couldn't hold it at the top. However now it's atleast flat instead of arched, but I guess this needs much more work: Imgur Post with 1 views. Left wrist looks better to my eye at impact, but could it be I'm rolling my wrists over more or something? Thanks in advance!
    • A senior player I know likes to buy clubs from Callaway Pre-Own. He said they offer great prices/condition, trade-in value and returns if you don’t like the clubs. He is constantly swapping club through the program.
