He's has evolved into a lower level of $@##.

Kudo's to him on that!

Admittedly I've always been a big Bubba fan, but I'm not sure that personality traits are criteria for HoF status. Having said that, I'm on the fence.

...And I've acted like a 4yo brat at times; let he without sin cast the first stone.  Like @Bluefin646 pointed out, we all go through times of struggle, but what's nice to see is effort to improve and his relative growth. But, again, I don't see one's predisposition to be outwardly frustrated as a disqualifier for HoF status if the career accomplishments warrant consideration.

Is it me or are some of the guys that say he needs a couple more wins also push the it is so much harder to win now than years ago? Using that logic he is very very close to a HOF player. Freddie and Monty in gives him a strong case considering they played against weaker fields than Bubba.

I wouldn’t have voted Freddie in either. I’d say you assumed that I would… but I already said I wouldn’t have.

No I think you are assuming that I made an assumption of what you would do. A lot of assumptions.  Just pointing out that people compare to the past in total wins except don't adjust for strength of field.

That’s not an assumption. It’s what you said.

Then you talked about Freddie, as if “the guys” were fine with him being in.

You were assuming I was talking about YOU! Don't flatter yourself. Bubba is pretty damn close to being a HOF player. I don't think he is currently but another major or a few more wins and he is in. I think you can agree with it. Besides World Golf HOF is a bit of a joke having people in there who aren't golfers.

Nope. I didn’t have to assume. I am one of “the guys” who met both of the criteria you listed: strength of field, no Bubba HOF.

I don’t think a lot of people in there should be.

And your last point I don’t agree with either.

I'm surprised at the poll results that say yes. My immediate thought is he's not close to being a HOF'er. On reflection it's far too easy to make the World Golf HOF. Freddy being in is case in point although he's one of my favorites. Bubba should need at least 1 more major and 9 more PGA tour wins. All are entire possible.

So you think George Bush and Eisenhower deserve the HOF?

It's also funny Laura Davies is in but most likely won't make LPGA.

At first glance, he seems like a likely HOF, assuming a few more wins or another major. If his career ended today, other factors come into play like popularity, style, and media relationship... I don't consider him a HOFer yet, but it's close. DJ? Yes. Furyk? Yes. Zach? Mmmmmm

I didn’t comment specifically on any one person did I?

Being a whiny crybaby/momma's boy should not disqualify someone from HOF status.  A lot of great champions are kind of @$$^%&'s, it's what got them there.

It should be based on record and/or contributions to the game alone.  But they should tighten it up.  In a couple more decades it's going to be so packed and watered down it won't mean as much.

Gents,

Are there any players who have won two majors, retired 10+ years ago, and are not in the HOF?

Exactly the problem with the HOF. It should be more exclusive.

I think he is on the fence. If he wins another major and gets a couple more wins he would definitely be in. If not, I think the it would depend on the amount of repeat winners we see on the tour. If we aren't seeing a lot of repeat winners as we currently/used to I think he would get the nod.

    • I have a putting mat in my office. It's 9 feet long almost 4 feet wide. I've drawn a line down it in order to practice hitting my line and stuff. Works fine for what it is.  While I'm not a fan of lining up a line on my golfball for every putt. I think for practice sessions it can have a lot of value.  To me this product makes sense. This is the first time I've seen it. It showed up as an add on the right side of the TST webpage. What do you all think? PuttAIM Laser Training Aid Get ready to dominate the greens like never before. PuttAIM Golf is a golf putting aid that uses laser technology to help you improve your game. This device works to ensure your putts are aligned properly and on track...
    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
