Isn't the LPGA HOF really defined by points accumulation and difficult to get into?  Why don't we use something like that?

Laura Davies doesn't make the LPGA HOF but is in the World golf HOF. A HOF is a bit of a joke if they let guys I'm for just being president like Bush and Eisenhower.

I voted no, but I wish there was a spectrum, because I think he's pretty close, at least based on the people that have been chosen so far. I was happy Freddy Couples got in, because I like Freddy Couples, but probably on playing merits he probably shouldn't have made it in.

To put a number on it: five more wins or three wins and a major and I'd say he's a lock.

I do object to "opinion" being declared "fact". But here's an immutable fact 15>14 and 16>14 and 17>14 and 18>14. And your response is......dont worry I know already.

Here's another fact: each of Tiger's 14 majors was much more difficult to win than any of Jack's 18.

A bonus fact: this is all…

I preface this by saying that I don't have a good grasp on HOF criteria in terms of intangibles. Bubba seems destined for it though.

I voted no, even though I like Bubba. I particularly liked his response to a fan who said, "You da man!" when he hit it in the rough on Sunday. Bubba said, "If I was the man, I'd be in the fairway!"

He has what? Two majors (Masters), and two WGC's? Nice record, but not HOF worthy IMO. I'm reminded of a local radio sports screamer who says that halls of fame should have different floors. The bottom floor for those who just scraped in, and the top floor for the "no doubt about it" folks!

No. He caught lightning in a bottle a few times, but year in, year out, he hasn't been one of the all-time greats.

He has only 11 Tour wins. 11! Let's get him up to at least 20 before we have this conversation.

His record in major championships? In 40 competitions, he finished in the top ten only four times, including his two Masters wins, and missed the cut 15 times. That is very close to Andy North, who had five top ten finishes including two U.S. Open wins, and 14 MCs in his first 40 major championship competitions.

Hall of Fame, not Hall of Pretty Good.

Except North has 3 career PGA Tour wins.

A list of current HOF members with 2 Masters as their only majors.

A couple of things jump out at me.

Horton Smith was a player and Bernard Langer only has a single PGA Tour victory.

Bubba needs to get at least 15 wins to be in the conversation. Of course another major and he is in.

I voted no. For the record, I'm not a fan of Fred Couples in the HoF either.

Not a fact.

You don't have to beat the whole field, most of the field isn't in the running.  It always comes down to 3 to 10 guys.  Depth of field is irrelevant when most of the field is 10 strokes back of the leaders.

What makes them more difficult?  Strength of field?  Competition?  Physical health? At the end of the day, it's hard to compare across generations with all the different club/ball advancements, physical training, coaching, launch monitors, books, forums like this, access, and the list goes on.  All we have to go on are the numbers and feelings/perceptions about what's going on.  I graduated high school in 2007, so I watched Tiger in his peak years and was a part of that generation getting into golf due to this man.  I never witnessed Jack, Hagen, or Bobby Jones or any of the greats play like I did Tiger.  I dare say you take any of the greats and drop them into the same environment as Tiger had and they'll find a way to win.  You don't win 18 majors and come in 2nd-5th a billion times without the winning ability.  This debate is as old as 2002 and not going any where, unless we can take a journey in a Delorean to see how it turns out.

Really?  So we can't compare Gary Player's 1958 British Open win, at a time when Americans completely dominated golf, that only had 3 Americans in the field with, say, the 2000 British Open Tiger won against virtually every top player in the world?  Really?

Or Jack's first British Open in 1966 when only 5 of the top 10 on the money list played with Tiger's '97 Masters which, by the very nature of the qualifying criteria contained the top 30 money winners?

By nature that they didn't play against each other...no.

Yes, but the comparison was between their records in major championships, neither of which is HOF quality.

I refuse to use Freddie as the bar. Freddie shouldn’t be in at all. Monty, probably not either.

I completely agree, I am a huge Fred Couples fan and the is not way he should be in the HoF. Monty is even more of a joke IMHO.

As far as Bubba is concerned if he quit today you would have to consider him. Two Masters wins and two WGC wins puts him in pretty good company. If he wins another Major or a couple more Tour events he's a lock.

Why does that matter? Plus he’s had coaching. The “no lessons” story he loves to tell has a big asterisk.

it matters cause it has a story........see Lee Trevino.........not a country club kid.........

not to mention the biggest crybaby

yes, he was a crybaby, and a jerk, and NOT NICE to patrons......fans.........kids..........he's older, he was snubbed for TWO ryder cups being the 11th guy.  he looked in the mirror, he made some changes.  Perfect, far from it, as am I, however, dude can move it around a course, has two majors, 11 victories, ate his humble pie, and is now a better person for it.......still gonna cry, still gonna whine, but less so than before.........AND he was a positive force in 2016 Ryder cup as a assistant coach.........that shit matters!  at least it does to me.

Am I saying he is the nicest guy out there, everyone's buddy, HELL NO.......and never will be......but he is evolved as a person, and I do give him credit for that.
