Consistency! One day I am hitting everything and every club as if I should be viewed for a "do it this way" you tube video and then I have a session at the DR or course where I feel as if I am hitting every club left handed (and I hit right handed, usually).  I have come to think much is overthinking the mechanics.  Best for me to focus on one or two items at a time.  Putting is not always solid, but I am still getting used to a new putter.  But, when I decide to simply go out there and have fun, regardless of a missed shot or two, I do better.  Yes, I spend time on the DR trying to fix major errors; but I need to use fun as a way to find consistency!

People trying to sell me golf stuff. Hehehejejejejeje

but seriously think its not enough warm up time. I somehow keep hurting my left side - elbow, shoulder, lowerback.

Cheers all

General inconsistency is my biggest issue. I never have everything working fairly well all at once. Plus I have a mental block when I have a second shot from the middle of the fairway. Almost every time I hit a great tee shot, which isn’t often, I either shank my second shot or bounce it about 50 yards.

my biggest problem is giving up in the middle of a tournament.

When I get done with 9 holes, if I'm 8+ over par, I tend to give up trying to keep low scores and I get more aggressive in an attempt to get more birdies for skins.  I'm getting better at not giving up though.  That seems to be the only real problem I have.  Not so much as any mechanics or aspects of the game.  They are all relatively in good shape.

Another bad part would be when I tend to rush a finishing putt, usually around 2-4 feet.  I'll just go up to it and try to knock it in only to lip out.  Very annoying.  I shot 1 under Sunday and I missed 2 putts at 4 feet because of my impatience.  I could of been 3 under.

Putting putting putting. I’m 2.5-3 years into my golf journey and consistently shooting in the low 90’s but would easily be shooting in the mid 80’s basically automatically if my putting went from the current state of absolutely abysmal to just bad.

The amount of strokes gained on the green is incredible.

Believe it or not it’s your approach game that’s causing your bad putting. I know, because I’m also a horrible putter...

My biggest problem is inconsistency with my training. I hit some sort of golf ball everyday. Some days it may be a foam golfball in the yard other days it will be range balls. I am very inconsistant about trying to tackle one swing fault at a time. One day I may work on not over swinging at the top and the next day I may decide my swing inconsistencies come from not shifting my weight.   I’m always working different areas of the swing versus focusing my improvements on one particular area. I know it’s a fault of mine but can’t seem to make myself focus.

Along the same lines, historically I've been inconsistent with practice.  I read a lot and do my training at the gym but even before I went to grad school, I didn't make the time (which was available to me) to practice as much as I should have.  I'm somewhat disappointed in myself because I feel I had the opportunity to be a lot further along than I am.

I track my GIRs, fairways hit, up and downs, and putts per hole.

Trust me, it’s my putting.

What are your numbers and what do you consider good, average, and bad in those figures?

I ask because I track that and more myself.

My home course is pretty long but links style with not many trees and literally no fairway bunkers so for me on that course I don’t really care about fairways hit off of the tee at all. I want distance, distance, and more distance. I’ll trade 30-40 more yards for being in the rough all day. The rough isn’t really too bad at all honestly.

I think in my most recent round where I shot my best ever 84 I had like 4 fairways hit off of the tee. I had 32 putts which is actually pretty damn good I think. My putting has improved drastically since I posted that two weeks ago. I also had a solid amount of GIRs with 8. Breakdown was 7 pars, 9 bogeys, 1 double, 1 triple.

I’m in dire dire need of a new putter as well. I’ve had this one for like 1.5 years and I’ve honestly hated it for the duration. I might buy new which is something I’ve yet to do with clubs.

I hear that!  I have a putter I'm not thrilled with and my next "fun" buy is going to be an Edel putter.

This may be :offtopic:but as for stats, I've only played 7 rounds this year so a small sample size but my GIR is 15.87%, 2.02 Avg. Putts/Hole, Scrambling is 12.26%, and outside of one outlier round - 3.33 penalty strokes/round.

As a tecerence point, I get 6-10 GIR but they’re on the wrong sides of the greens and still shoot mid to high 80s. My putting is not so bad, but my irons are not accurate at all.

Yeah at my level I'm not really interested too much yet at anything other than aiming for the middle of the green with my approach wedge and above. Even my sand wedge (56 degrees) which is good for roughly 90'ish yards with a pitching motion, I'm still way more likely than not to aim for the middle. My goal right now is accumulating GIR.

I’m aiming for the center too, the ball just refuses to do my bidding. 🤪😂😂 lol

Your initial point isn't lost on me though. I definitely think my increased confidence (from good practice and instruction) in my 60 degree wedge and willingness to turn to that club during the round was pretty big in how I scored and in how few putts I had to hit. When I wasn't making a GIR, it was a huge help to have a bit more control on the approach with the 60 degree. I used to be so scared of this club I rarely used it. Because when I did I was terrified of blading, it which when caused me to not release the club head and expose the bounce which caused the leading edge to just dig way into the ground and I'd chunk the hell out of it causing the ball to go a few feet versus the 30 yards I needed it to go.

This is generally what most people have experienced with lofted wedges.

This video helps...
