Elections apparently take a few days… even though everything should be pretty automatic. I meet all of the requirements, so I should be in with about ten seconds of double-checking. But it took a few

Well, today I passed all of my Level 3 tests for the PGA apprentice (or "associate"?) program. I emailed in my application for membership, and the next election date is apparently July 2. So far as I

Congrats, @iacas! Though to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure how any of this changes what you do, but it's still cool to be "official" and everything.

Nothing except I can go to the Masters now. ;-)

Hmm... it's been a few years since a club pro won that particular tournament.  It'd be fun to see you be the next one.

Can you explain this?

PGA members get in to the Masters. You used to be able to take your wife too but no more.

They can get in to all the tournaments actually, I think.

Congrats, great news and clearly well-earned!

Has it in any way benefited your primary roles of running the site or instruction? Just interested.

This is great @iacas ! I didn't realize what it takes to rise in the PGA until I met a friend who is a Life Member of the PGA. I think it is quite remarkable and little known. Best, Marv

Thanks. I pretty much could as an "apprentice" too.

They didn't have to know the one or two (I think just one) times I was technically "suspended" (you have two years to complete each level, or you're "suspended" until you pay for the next level of class materials; I took longer than two years to finish my level 1 stuff and buy level 2, but think I did 2 and 3 within two years each).

    • If anyone wants to see GG of my rounds at SV and Lawsonia, here they are. Mammoth Dunes and Lac La Belle did not upload correctly (probably because they are newer courses and not yet in GG). https://www.gamegolf.com/player/DeadManUofM/round/3081710 https://www.gamegolf.com/player/DeadManUofM/round/3081711 https://www.gamegolf.com/player/DeadManUofM/round/3081705 https://www.gamegolf.com/player/DeadManUofM/round/3081706

    • Moreover, assuming that it’s considered less safe to hit larger stones, it could be perceived as discouraging a player from taking an action that could make play more safe… There are other instances in the rules that allow for relief from unsafe conditions.  If rocks in a bunker are considered unsafe, then yeah, I was a bit surprised by that limitation.
    • I've been taking some lessons for the past couple months.  My full swing iron and wedge game continue to improve as we have mainly been working on the driver. I am very happy with the irons as far as start lines and curve goes. I feel I am close to a decent golfer with that. The driver continues to be the main challenge for me as it always is. I've been able to put the ball in play for the most part and have a little bit of speed, but path/face and strike consistency has been a struggle. I've worked mainly on some setup, grip and takeaway pieces so far. Miss right now tends to be out of the bottom half of the club. I am getting closer with the takeaway so I will likely try and add a little bit of throw in the DS and see if I can find the center of the face a little more with a higher trajectory. Maybe one day I can even put a fairway wood back in the bag. 😂
