Let's Talk About Grips

Tour Velvet, any reason not to go with this? Or Winn Dri Tac? I would go with the Pure Grips suggestion, but I have never seen them in central Ohio. What do you think is a fair price per grip material and then labor to install per club? I have done them myself before, but getting lazy in my old age. I did have a pro shop install them for free once. Is this rare or common?

I varies from store to store. Golf Galaxy does it for $5 each I think.

I have had the Golf Galaxy at Easton regrip some of my clubs before and it was cheap.

For grips themselves, I love the feel, performance and appearance of the GolfPride MCC +4 grips. I haven't tried the MCC +4 Align yet though.

Recently took 5 iron purchase of the 695 MB to Golf Mart. I got the Lamkin Crossline ($5.00) and another couple bucks for install.

My local place regrips for free as long as you buy the grip there. Their grips seem about the same price as everywhere else. Having said that I regrip my clubs myself because I'm weird that way.

Golf Pride CP2 grips are the best grips on the market in my humble opinion. Having said that, I don't use them. 

I order my grips from Cobra. I get midsized Lamkin UTX Mid-sized in black. I order them from Cobra so I can get the cobra connect style and put my Arccos sensors in them. 

I like the Lamkin UTX mid-sized, I also like the Lamkin Wrap-Tech mid-sized. Both are available in the connect style which allows you to put your Arccos or Cobra Connect sensors in them. I like the sensor built into the grip better than the sensor screwed into the top of the club. I'm a huge fan of Arccos. (but that's another thread.)

PURE grips look interesting. I still remember the review @iacas did on them like 10 years ago.  Its about time for me to regrip my clubs, but I don't know if the additional cost for the PURE grips is worth it. I can get Golf Pride Tour Wraps (the grips I have now) for about $5.00 a grip. PURE Grips are going to run me about about $9.00. Anyone that uses them have an opinion? Are they worth the extra cost?

I went from Dri-Tac to CP2 last year and really like the CP2.  My question is this - with the Dri-Tac it is easy to know when the grips are worn, with CP2 less so.  Any thought on how to tell with the CP2 or how often they should be changed?

I like the Lamkin UTX mid-sized, 

nothing wrong with DIY, if doing several, but for me not worth the hassle one at a time, purchasing materials, shaft vice e.t.c.

I have the UTX middies on my Tour Edge, but they are not available in over-sized and is why I went with Crossline. The over-size were recommended by Lamkin's web site calculator. I am probably on the borderline between mid and jumbo. (middle finger barely touches palm on the mid-sized). I would agree with comments above regarding what feels comfortable.

Well, I hope this helps.
Here's a picture of the sensors once you take them out of the grips, or if you take them out of the tags. With Arccos, they are the exact same sensors inside the screw on tags as well as inside the grips. I've pulled sensors out of the screw on thing to put into the grips many times and it works perfectly. In fact I think they may even work better inside the grips. I've heard of people with the tags having Arccos miss some shots. Doesn't ever seem to happen when the sensors are inside the grips. (But to be honest I didn't have that problem when I used to use the tags either.)

I put two sensors in the pic, one right side up and the other upside down. I put a couple of coins in there for scale. 

Here's what the butt end of the replacement grip looks like before you push the sensor in. This is how they are sent to you from Cobra. 

Here's the same grip with the sensor pushed in. Once they are pushed in, they stay in. So, if you are regripping be sure to mark which one is your 9 iron, your 8 iron, etc... Or when you are done regripping you will have to re- pair them all. Which only takes about 2 minutes, but it's nice to keep all of your data on the same club with the same sensor.

Installed Pure grips on my clubs and they are still in "like new" condition after 250 rounds.
Feel great, excellent gripping hold when playing.
Many NP Cup members wrote reviews after having their clubs gripped at the Pure facility in Phoenix.

I have buyer's remorse.    With my new clubs I went in wanting Pure grips.   I let the fitter change my mind and ended up with the CP2 Pro grips.   They are a good grips but I wish I had stuck with the original plan and went with the Pure.

I was at Dicks Sporting Goods here in New York and they had Ping grips for sale. They only had regular size though.

The other question I had is about grip size.  I just did the Lamkin grip sizer/type ( http://www.lamkingrips.com/choosing-your-grip/find-your-size ) and it says my grip is "mid size".  Looking at Ping's sizing chart, it has me in the "standard" (close to Gold, +1/32"). My current grips have white lettering (standard) and they seem to fit pretty well but since I'm close to the gold wondering if going up a size makes sense.   What are the prevailing thoughts about grip sizing - favor a little larger than smaller?   I know for a spell some years back, some of the folks I played with were favoring upsized grips on their drivers.  I did try this at one point (persimmon days we're talking here) and honestly cannot recall whether it was helpful. 

I used the Lamkin app also, said mid size for me as well so I changed my driver first and it felt much more comfortable. I went with Golf Pride mid size grips double wrap and just changed all the clubs in my bag. Haven't played with them yet it has been cold here in New York.

I am playing Ping G400's Woods and Hybrids which I picked up used and had a bunch of different grips as a result. I also was really keen on keeping the Ping logo on all of them. I was completely set on the Tour Velvet style.

Ended up going down to the local pro shop and tested a bunch of different grips and walked away with all of my clubs getting re gripped with Golf Pride Tour Wrap 2G in Red and couldn't be happier! 

I suggest you go and actually try out a bunch of grips and see what feels best. It made a huge difference for me!

Winn dritac. You can regrip it yourself. I just ordered 13 on amazon and it came with grip tape and solvent. $102.67. Delivered. It takes 5 minutes to install. But sometimes getting old ones off is tough. Order a hook blade it helps.
