My PE2's came with those spiral style rubber grips.  About 10 years ago I had them re-gripped with nearly the same style.  Having trialed some G400's this past winter, which had the "Tour Velvet" grips, and thinking it's about time mine get redone, I'm looking at options.  I'd really like to keep the Ping logo - no, not a brand snob, just preference.  The Tour Velvet certainly had a softer feel to them which felt pretty good. I don't recall whether they had a Ping logo on them or not; a quick search did not find them. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Unless you order grips from PING you're not keeping the PING logo, basically.

My recommendation: http://puregrips.com/. By far.

Hmm, well dang.  Guess I'll have to decide just how important that Ping logo is.  Looking at the Ping website, and the reviews, it would seem the ID8 are the closest to the Tour Velvet that were on the P400's.  I rolled back through the forum pages and found another thread on this as well - good info.

The other question I had is about grip size.  I just did the Lamkin grip sizer/type ( http://www.lamkingrips.com/choosing-your-grip/find-your-size ) and it says my grip is "mid size".  Looking at Ping's sizing chart, it has me in the "standard" (close to Gold, +1/32"). My current grips have white lettering (standard) and they seem to fit pretty well but since I'm close to the gold wondering if going up a size makes sense.   What are the prevailing thoughts about grip sizing - favor a little larger than smaller?   I know for a spell some years back, some of the folks I played with were favoring upsized grips on their drivers.  I did try this at one point (persimmon days we're talking here) and honestly cannot recall whether it was helpful.

No. I've stuck with what's been comfortable. I never really bought into the BS about grip size.

Thanks for this. I've been considering midsize with maybe one wrap for the comfort offered my arthritic hands. I have them in wedges and I like them a lot. Plus I used them years ago, and couldn't see that I blocked shots right because of them. Nor do I find standard grips help me "roll" my hands. Best, -Marv

FTMFW.

How can that be if they don't say Ping on them? ;-) I did check their website and they appear to have a big following.  To be honest I'd never heard of them before @iacasmentioned them.

PS; also had to look up FTMFW :naughty:.

That would make some sense.  I know I'm already loosing some tactile sensitivity in my hands. Also gripping things often feels like I'm working with a pair of mitts at times. Didn't think to ask some of the older guys I play golf with in Yuma.

For what it's worth, I regripped my I25 irons, Ping G driver, and G15 3 wood with Golf Pride CP2 grips and I love them.

My clubs are gripped in Ping ID8 1/32 oversize with reminder rib.  They can be had online pretty easily.  I have played with PURE grips and they are nice, not magic or anything.  The PURE grips are available online and they install them at my club in Michigan.

My ID8's are blown on, no tape.

I got the ID8's on my irons new Ping I200's and I liked them so I added them to all my clubs.  I really like the reminder rib also it helps keep a consistent grip and a tactile feel if you are opening or closing the grip.

I played in the rain with the ID8's and I had no problem with no glove.

Definitely old thinking, at least as it applies to me anecdotally.  I have a midsize grip on my driver (accidentally chose the wrong one when I got it re-gripped) and my misses go left far more, both in how often and in magnitude, than they go right.

I keep thinking I'll get it regripped right, but I'm hitting it fine and at this point, when I want to regrip next I'll just buy the darn air compressor and install pures.

It is that time of year again for me. The summer season is over time to regrip. I am going with Tour Velvets from MCC for the fall winter months. Velvet 360 for driver and 3W. Always cool to get new grips.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
