A young man who said he had been playing only 4 months with a “top of the line” PXG complete golf set. Followed by his father playing with the top of the line Honma clubs. Not that I’d have been able to tell the difference between any non top of the line of either club make. :-D

The son confessed that they were carting around 100k USD in clubs?!? Then they walked over to their Maserati sedan, whatever that cost...

We were playing at Santa Anita GC, the municipal course in my home town to boot. WTH?!? Must have missed the opportunity to join the San Gabriel Country Club :-P

$1,000 poker chip would be interesting, are you sure it was real?

When I go to casinos the poker chips that I see and touch are generally a little lower denomination than $1000..... More like $1 or maybe $5 so I couldn't say for sure, but it sure looked real.

Didn't want to ask if it was real, since I am sure that was what he wanted the way he so dramatically flashed it.

That's a pretty Summer's Eve way to be for sure.  I can't really recall big "look at me" stuff, besides the occasional flashy John Daly pants and I believe if you're going to wear them, you better be pretty dang good.  But the biggest thing that always draws my attention is when someone starts chucking clubs around.

Sometimes, it could be me.  About a couple of months ago, I bought adidas 360 pants in fuchsia.  I often wear it during my rounds.  Many people have commented on the color.  Ladies love the color, as expected.  Even some men have commented on how good the color actually looks.

The last time I wore it, my buddy and I got paired up with a couple.  She said when she noticed the fuchsia colored pants on the range, she was hoping to be paired with "that guy".  Well she got her wish.

Today at the DR I was next to a person hitting PXG clubs, mainly a driver.  His goal, as I saw it, was to hit as many beyond and out of the range as possible. When he did, he would say, "Yes, yes, that's the way it is done". When he did not, he went through histrionics and moaning with profanities as to how bad of a shot he just did, including quite a few false breaking a club over his knee.  What made it even more fun to watch is that he could not hit any other club cleanly at all.

Just another comment on long pants vs shorts, if your in the north east Lyme disease is a very real threat on a course.  Long pants are the best protection.

As long as you wear your socks outside of your pants! Ticks can crawl, man!

The most look at me moment was the guys in the "boom cart" just blasting their tunes all over the place! I wished I had a shotgun in the bag!

I think the next "look at me" thing will be those awful Nike "Nasty" golf shoes.

My Brother in law won £100 on molinari so i'm betting he'll be "rocking" these soon.

    • I'll be honest, the only reason the 2 iron was in my bag is because I tend to hit the ball into the tree's fairly often. And I was using it to help me keep the ball very low to get out of the tree's while avoiding getting much loft to hit branches. I guess I can drop the 3H as well. Would it be wise to give a higher loft fairway wood a try as well, something like a 26 degree? I believe there is only one golf shop where I live that has a golf simulator and trainer. I see they offer free fitting with a purchase from the fitter. I'll have to check how much they charge without a purchase, I've read a few stories about fitters on this forum that just wanted to sell the person the most expensive clubs and that kind of deters me a bit. They do offer lessons as well. I'll give them a call and ask them a bit more about these services. Thank you!
    • Here is a description of all the programs:  Programs & Training Programs and Training TheStack is a personal swing-speed trainer for golfers. Initially, each golfer is piloted through a series of swing speed tests to generate a force-velocity profile of their current swing. Qualitative data is... I think cruiser is meant for maintaining speed and flex can do more than that. But I'm just basing that on the descriptions that I linked.
    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

    • I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
