Great, classic tournament; I've always liked the 'Quad Cities Open', a staple on the Tour since the early 70s. They've historically had a tough spot on the schedule, the week before the Open Championship.

Scores after the first round are certainly low, looks like you'll need to go 20 under or better to win if that keeps up.

Disappointed to see that DeChambeau had to withdraw with a shoulder injury and won't get to defend his title. Hopefully he is not out of commission very long.

Round 2 and the low scores keep on keeping on. John Huh just posted a sweet little 8 under 63 to get within shouting distance of the lead. Canadian David Hearn posted a 64 today and currently leads at -12.

Steve Wheatcroft & Michael Kim have pushed the lead to -13. And its good to see Harold Varner III having another good week, he's at -8 with a few holes to play. Last week at the Greenbriar he was tied for the lead going to Sunday looking for his first win (which would have accomplished something not done in 32 years on Tour). Maybe HV3 will make another run and this will be the week.

First African American to win a Tour event since 1986, both Jim Thorpe & Calvin Peete won that year.

 

 

Meanwhile Michael Kim is making a statement, getting it to 16 under, 4 shots clear of 2nd place.

Tiger Woods is multi-racial. His mother is Thai and Indian while his father is mixed race of African American and Caucasian. After he won the Masters in 1997 he was asked if it bothered him that people were referring to him as African American, his reply was "Yes".  Shortly afterwards Woods made up a term to describe his ethnicity - Cablinasian. That is still what Woods answers when someone asks him what is race is.

Back on topic

Play has been suspended in round 2 with just a few players finishing the final 3 or so holes. Kim (still -16 and 4 shots clear) is on the 18th green with a 27 foot putt for birdie waiting to be hit when play resumes.

Bunkers are supposed to be penal; most of the bunkers in the US are too easy for the PGA pros to get up & down from - not much penalty at all.

He ended up 3 putting for bogey on 18 so he's at -15 headed to the weekend. He has a 3 shot lead over a foursome in 2nd (-12) - Wheatcroft, Hearn, Wagner, and Burgoon.

Is anchoring allowed at the John Deere? Watching Hearn putt yesterday, he looked to me to be anchoring the putter. I thought that was not allowed.
