New to golf.  Rules say one stroke penalty for lost ball.  How does that play out?  If I hit from the tee and lose the ball from the tee is that 2 strokes or 3?  Do I count the first ball as one stroke, another stroke for penalty, and then the third stroke as the second ball off the tee?  Or is it simply two strokes?

Each swing counts as a stroke and you add the penalty to it, so first swing results in a lost ball (1 stroke), take a penalty (2nd stroke) and re-tee, your second swing is your third stroke of the hole.

Thanks.  That's what I needed to know.  Appreciate the clear answer.
