B.C. (the comic strip) seems to average one golf joke every two weeks. Here's the most recent one:

I'm the kind of nut that tries to figure out why in the world he said 1-irons. Who uses a 1-iron anymore? 1-irons seem to have gone the way of the dodo. Tiger goes down to a 2I, and so does Daly.

Apparently 1-irons and pitching wedges cause the most grief and therefore end up in the water. Just a guess.

I know that, I'm just saying: who uses a 1-iron anymore? Nobody that I can think of. Nobody at all. I don't even think many people had them at the last US Open, and we usually see them there for driving off the tee on the tighter (and shorter) holes.
