How did he qualify via points if he "absolutely sucked the entire year"?

Sure, he struggled based on his own standards. But he is still one of the best golfers in the world.

He had a good year last year and points are accumlated starting in 2017, could be one reason, and he had a good finish at the Masters, a good finish at The Open and otherwise... uhhhh

Only 2017 majors and WGC classic events counted, correct? Not the entire schedule.

Also, this year's good finishes at The Masters and at The Open would be good enough to get anyone else into the conversation.

Say DeChambeau qualified via points and Speith didn't... You don't think Spieth wouldn't be a captain's pick?

Who would you pick over him? Schauffele? Bradley? Horschel? Kuchar? Kisnar?

Nah..... Speith is the guy for sure.

Bradley based on his play lately, although Schauffele would be a worthy consideration of course.  Not Kuchar.  Look, I am a huge Spieth fan, and he normally would be “the guy” for me also, but he has been awful.  I’m not interested in seeming him miss a crapton of hole winning or hole halving 3-5ft putts all week.  We have a big enough issue often times in the Ryder Cup making putts

Maybe you're right..... but I do not agree in any way, shape, or form.

As an American, I want Jordan Spieth representing me all day -AND- it's not even close.

I want to win, not have a popularity contest.  Jordan Spieths current level of play does not give us the best chance to win.  If it were just a couple weeks of bad form that can quickly turn around just like that I’d still want him there... but his putting right now is tremendously messed up, and therefore he does not give us the best chance to win.  He just finished over par in an event that had some of the lowest field scoring averages of all time

What is it about what I said that would lead you to believe it had anything to do with a popularity contest?

What you call bad-form is based on incredible standards placed on him because of his incredible play.

He is still one of the best in the world and you're arguing the merit of a player who has earned his spot on the team via points. There is not popularity contest here - He earned it, without question.

He is still one of the best in the world.

A down year for him, based the the standards people place on a former world number one (who’s almost dropped out of the top 10 now) is not what has happened this year.  I’m saying he doesn’t give us the best chance to win, not ranked pretty much dead last in every putting category.  A down year for the “worlds best putter” would be like 30th to 50th in ranking... not One Hundred and Thirty freakin’ Sixth.  I hope he proves me wrong, but statistically based on his season he’s the worst player on the team.

You’ll sing a different tune if Jordan goes 0 for the Ryder Cup and puts on a display of missing 3-4ft putts for us.

No, no I won't.... I don't subscribe to the arm-chair quarterbacks way of life.

The guys on this team deserve my respect and have earned the right to choke, if it be.

There isn't a single player on either team that won't make mistakes, or more specifically, there isn't a single player that won't miss any putts that we think they 'aughta make' from our living rooms.

Who am I to criticize them? Hell, I missed a 3 foot birdie putt yesterday and the only reason I don't miss a bunch more is because I'm not good enough to hit the ball within 3-4 feet of the hole on approach shots.

I only wish them the best.

Dude, c'mon. This is now the second topic tonight where you've pulled this crap.

Jordan is the tenth ranked player in the world. He qualified on points. He's a much better golfer than Xander Schauffele.

Their last ten finishes together (majors and playoffs in bold):

55 vs 3
12 vs 49
25 vs MC
12 vs 35

60 vs 68 (WGC)
9 vs 2
42 vs MC
MC vs 6
MC vs MC
32 vs MC

In their last 10 events together, Jordan is 6-3-1 against Xander.

He also just beat Xander in the previous two playoff events, including finishing top 15 and top 25 in events where Xander finished 49th and missed the cut.

I also said Xander would be a suitable choice but I’d pick Bradley.  I’m a huge, huge fan of Jordan, but are you really saying his CURRENT level of play gives us an edge in the Ryder Cup?  He’s missing 5ft putts like it’s his job

Again, :sigh:.

He's the 10th ranked player in the world. He qualified ON POINTS. But even if he hadn't, I'd take Jordan Spieth over Keegan Bradley, even after this week, yes.

55 vs 1
12 vs 49
25 vs 34
12 vs 42

60 vs DNP (WGC)
9 vs 79
42 vs 47
MC vs MC
32 vs 23

That's nine events in common, and Jordan was 6-2-1 against Keegan Bradley, too.

Did you even bother to look at where Keegan ranked on the SG: Putting list before you said that? Because…

Screen Shot 2018-09-10 at 10.38.34 PM.png

Keegan is 174th. He moved up from 186th in strokes gained putting.

Ouch.

Keegan is currently a hot hand, Jordan not so much, Bradley is getting his game back, his stats will be on the rise, Jordan... well, right now, I guess he can’t get much worse but he hasn’t shown much save for a few tournaments here and there.  Again, hoping he proves me wrong, but Jordan has been bad this year and my opinion is his current form is a liability

6-2-1 against Keegan. 10th ranked player in the world vs. the 31st.

The facts don't support your opinion unless by "current form" you literally mean ONE WEEK on the PGA Tour.

Debating with you is absolutely pointless.  You’re absolutely right Jordan has had a hell of a season for the 10th ranked player in the world as you like to point out.  I know I always expect the 10th ranked player in the world to miss as many cuts as have top 10’s.  He also started the season #2 in the world and dropped all the way to #10 and if he doesn’t get it together quickly starting next year he’ll keep dropping.

Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
