Retinal Pucker

Anyone have any experience with this? How has it impacted your game? Any workarounds?

I can't plumb-bob my putts with my dominant eye any more. The putters shaft appears bent and everything else is a blur. I can still do it but have to use my other eye.  Also, I can't see balls driven past 200 yds making finding them a sometimes problem.

I don't know what you're asking about, but in general, I'd advise against plumb-bobbing your putts (period) and in general using your eyes for figuring out the break in putts.  Your feet are much more reliable once you learn how to use them. 

As for not being able to see drives past 200 yards, I don't know what to tell you.  A guy in my club has a running deal that everyone knows about:  if you're paired with him and want to use a riding cart, he'll pay for the cart you two share, but you have to watch for his ball.  If you lose one of his tee shots, though, you have to pay for the double cart instead.  I don't know if that proposal is useful to you though.

Yeah, the answer, for my poor eyesight, is asking my playing partners to watch and to help find. I invariably lose the shot in the sky but have an idea of direction.

I guess what I was asking is;

1. Have any of you had this condition and if so were you pleased with the surgical outcome?

2. If you did/do have this condition, what part of your game had to change and what solution worked for the parts that had to change?

As for my plumb-bob, the left eye is still up to the task and it is my solution to that part of my game that needed change. I'm still able to shoot 1.4 to 1.6 putts per hole even with out the use of my dominant eye so for now I will stay with what works best for me. But thanks for the suggestion - I'll read and consider all that are offered.

I can't talk to the medical issue but a former playing partner lost his left eye to an accident and still plays wonderful golf.    Good luck with your decision.

Your eyes tend to play tricks on one when reading putts. Using your feet to feel slope at the ball or to the side of the line is more accurate. No method works on every putt, because greens are greens - try an AimPoint Express Class.

Eye tricks.  I did a project where I turned over 200 balisters. I understand eye tricks probably better than anyone on this thread/site. I do layouts in the round - freehand that when measured are within  a fraction of a mm. Drop the feet issue. Please! Each person has their strong and weak issue.

I'm sorry. I may have gone over the top on that reply. I'm just looking for opinions from folks who have had the condition. I want to know their opinions.

I don't know how old you are, but, at 65, I can no longer see where the ball lands at 200 yards,assuming i can hit it 200 yards. But I've hd bad eye sight all my life. i don't plumb bob my putts.

I originally thought the title of this post was "Rectal Pucker", or what happens when you face a tough shot or a putt for all the money.🤩

This can either be a very good stat or a very bad stat.  It depends where you're putting from.  Have you calculated Strokes Gained/Lost putting instead?  

I can't help you with the medical issue: I'm not that kind of doctor, nor have I experienced it personally.

I don't think anyone here has really had the condition "retinal pucker." I don't even think I've ever heard of that before.

As for plumb bobbing… @Carvendive, it literally doesn't make any sense at all. Not geometrically, not in terms of physics… etc.

I had cataracts dealt with in both eyes.  I now play without glasses and my sunglasses help me see the ball in flight, so I have been able to locate my shots (except for wild mis-hits which I don't blame on eyesight or that I admit I have hit!).  While I still need readers to help with computer work, I am able to play golf at a different level. I have always been a fairly good putter but since the operations, I tend to see a lot more subtlety in greens. (Not sure if this due to the operations or not.)  Go see a good eye doctor and have the eyes checked.  My visit insurance paid for the work and each operation took less than 15 minutes.

It's okay, well all go over the top once in a while. If your eyes are failing, my point was to use the feet, get a slope read, use your fingers for a spot, use some judgment and go. AimPoint Expresss does work and it's not snake oil like plumb bobbing Everyone has a different definition of P-B. I've tried it, most of the time it is useless.
