I just like the message that can be taken from this...

You want to improve? Stop worrying about equipment, shaft flex, etc. and get to the 'nitty gritty': start striking the ball.

Don't over-complicate the game.

Until you can strike the ball in the sweet spot on a consistent basis, nothing else matters.

I can see a situation were a wrong type golf shaft could cause a golfer to not strike the ball as well.

I was about to say this. The wrong shaft definitely affects a player's ability to strike the ball well.

I disagree with this. Some (most) people will never learn to hit the ball that well. The equipment matters because it helps a player get the most out of their current ability.

Hell, even if you're an aspiring tour pro, the equipment matters as you progress in skill. You're not using your grandfather's cut off sticks until you hit college or whatever.

It's possible, maybe. I won't deny that. But I don't buy into that at all.

I also know that I'm going to catch some grief for this -but- I feel like the differences in shafts are so miniscule that they really don't matter until you are a high level expert golfer who is looking to maximize output.

I know this video has been posted somewhere on this site before.

I don't think his data is right, at least for anything above a scratch golfer. I think I'm closer to a 10 than scratch with this data, maybe even between a 10 and a 20, with my driver strike pattern. And yet, GameGolf has me driving the ball like a ~2 handicap.

He's also looking at the precise center of the ball for impact point, I'd guess. That's much more precise compared to using foot spray or impact tape to see where that point is. It will also make things appear closer to the center.

On the other hand, the thread is filled with people saying their strike patterns are nothing like this, so I'm not the only one thinking this.

Who are the other people saying this? 

As far a the accuracy of the data: I mean, I don't know but I feel like the guys at PING probably have a very precise way of running such experiments and coming up with the data and I would consider them a reliable source.
