Today’s Session 4-24-21

GOALS:

  1. Cup lead wrist in backswing
  2. Flow into a steady trail leg (let’s actually sway back today)
  3. Steady head: do not let it go down and ahead (toward FO camera)

7i Swings

I know it’s a little flippy at impact. That is totally ok for now.

Not duck-hooking is way more important right now. I’d rather be able to close the face in downswing.

Goal 1: Cup lead wrist

CBB91611-3BB3-49B0-8F31-3EAD7CD02387.jpeg.771227a2469590ffcc61ad19c10f2690.jpeg

This looks good. I hope I’m on my way to ridding the duck-hooks

Goal 2: Flow into steady trail leg

  • Ive been struggling with this piece lately
  • I felt that when I swayed 2”, the weight got outside my trail foot and I couldn’t keep that trail thigh steady
  • So I adjusted my setup a tad to get the trail leg wider at setup.

Well what do you know? Actually did it today! Hopefully the slight setup change will continue to work.

Goal 3: Steady head in backswing. Trail heel stays planted

Success! This was at pretty good speed also.

Today’s Session 5-17-21

I had to gear up for a pretty big tournament (for me), so I’ve been playing and working on striping the ball. I hit the ball very well FWIW.

Now back to drills and structure.

GOALS:

  1. Flow (sway) into trail hip
  2. Turn into trail hip (internal rotation)
  3. Steady head (does not go down and forward in downswing)
  4. Let the arms swing wide
  5. Dont care about downswing today

  • I thought I flowed and turned into trail hip
  • head went a little forward

3262057A-4307-4332-8D20-8620EA57C961.jpeg.2b03934228d95aad871afe575cfda72c.jpeg

I know the top it cut off, but it was the best swing...so oh well.

I already started to sway forward and crunch into my lead foot here

  • the trail heel came up at this point, but is that ok at this point in the swing?
  • swing might’ve been a tad long, but I thought the structure seems ok. Prob not that bad.

Started with a 5 putt, but turned it around. I’ll find the topic for the better details lol

Stand farther from ball, weight toward toes, butt of club through belt buckle.

BACKSWING

I have to get my butt to break “through the wall”

I was actually trying to turn around my trail hip instead of the center of my pelvis.

After 2, it feels like I’m turning around my lead hip.

Also, my pelvis is supposed to stay more between those lines.

TRANSITION

Then I’m transition, I have to throw the club behind me. I’m not trying to shallow it. Just throw it - like back and to the right? Hard to put into words

Today’s Session 2-17-22

GOALS

Work on previous lesson. It’s the second day in a row I’ve practiced after a long layoff, so just trying to get success of any kind.

Mainly working on getting my butt break through an imaginary wall in the backswing

Butt going backwards

Swing looks generally awful, but it’ll come around.

BACKSWING

What I’m “trying to do”

1. slam trail heel into ground- I have a tendency to just stay on my toes

2. Turn around my lead hip and make my butt “break through the wall behind me”

9E3C345A-732E-41C8-996C-C224E66A3FF7.jpeg.4aef8489d60b31a9090c72b9c786e256.jpeg

The good news is that my butt went through the line.

I’ll look at some old stuff about shortening the swing and do some mapping at home to get a few feels.

I also think I over did the setup a bit, swing looked better and more upright when I was a tad closer to the ball.

The only other bit of good news is that my butt stayed against the line and I did not early extend.

It’ll get better.

GOALS:

  1. Setup - closer to ball, more hip bend
  2. Takeaway - slam trail heel into ground. Take club away more to the inside from P1-P2.
  3. Backswing - turn around center of hips instead of around the trail hip. Butt should go though the imaginary line behind me.

Setup looks a little more athletic than previous post. Knees could probably use a little more flex.

622BD026-65B1-4774-98E9-FE087444EF2E.thumb.jpeg.7598e520f04d0eb5ef488dd66053db0b.jpeg

Club is moving more inside on takeaway.

trail heel seems to be on the ground

butt is going back through the line.

Not bad so far.

F7B9C3F2-F053-4A1C-99F3-3DA6F7BBE394.thumb.jpeg.63b5725df1283eb6ba8d143d2ec814bc.jpeg

Trail Heel still on the ground

Butt still behind line

Lead hip is not moving too much towards the ball. according to my lesson notes, this indicates I’m turning around the center of my pelvis- which is good.

7E3F6363-4229-42EB-A6A6-8457F78C08A1.thumb.jpeg.5adb6fc01c0cf83a5f49b852657a984c.jpeg

I think this is success (as far as turning around the center of my pelvis)

Backswing is still too long though.

Overall this is improvement from the last session. I’ll worry about the downswing once I get my backswing in a little better order.

GOALS:

  1. Setup - Have shins lean more forward
  2. Backswing - work on turning around center of pelvis instead of trail hip
  3. Transition - throw club back behind me

SETUP:

3F15DA58-11BE-4613-BD2E-63626B1350A5.jpeg.9318029969ebd1f1ec4a6aa407c54e48.jpeg

Shins are leaning more forward and weight is more on the balls of my feet.

it feels uncomfortable to get into this setup- for now.

BACKSWING

85A23DFF-BB2B-490E-95CD-87A9CDD04750.thumb.jpeg.4b0f318ddd2e22542b47bfc3120e49ac.jpeg

P2 a club is going a tad out again, I’ll map getting the club more to the inside here

P4 my trail heel is off the ground again and my butt stops going back at that point and starts to “early extend” (or whatever the name of that motion is in the backswing)

I feel really far from the ball during the backswing- but I might have to get over it.

DOWNSWING

Probably as good as it’s been even tho I’m not hitting the ball well yet.

At least it resembled a golf swing today. Seem to be making some progress

GOALS

  1. SETUP: Weight on toes, shins lean forward, butt off club point at belt
  2. BACKSWING: Trail hip stuff - butt goes back the whole time. Trail heel stays on ground. @iacasgave me a drill to help.
  3. DOWNSWING: Throw club back to help shallow (while not handle-dragging - this is lower priority, but trying to do a few drills here and there

Drill plus swing at end of session.

Most swings were painfully slow. I worked up to this.

SETUP:

Shins forward. I think this is pretty good. I had an easier time getting into this position today.

BACKSWING:

Trail hip seems to go back the entire time.

Can’t tell if trail hip is down because the bar is in the way. I think it did?

As soon as I start the transition, the hips start moving forward. But I have to get the backswing engrained first.

DOWNSWING

The top of the pictures got cut off, w/e.

But club seems to shallow ok right at P4, but then tips out at P5.

Not overly important right now, but I did a lot of pump drills when swinging super slow.

GOALS: Same stuff

  1. SETUP: Shins lean forward
  2. BACKSWING: Hand-path less out to P2. Trail heel stays down during backswing. Turn around center of hips.
  3. DOWNSWING: Throw club back and away to shallow without handle-dragging

SETUP:

40559CB0-3E07-4C60-9945-616ED42F5F5B.jpeg.75624b40dc3cea9efcd3d77edb32714e.jpeg

Shins are forward and butt of club is pointing at belt. Good.

BACKSWING:

Hand-path still moving a tad out to P2.

When I try to correct this during my sessions, I lose the more important things I’m working on.
I’ll continue to map at home / do some P2 drills.

6554EEE9-3E54-45DA-B105-B6D811D2186C.jpeg.aad8bba045420d74b89ad4da752915cd.jpeg

Hips go back during downswing. Trail heel seems to stay down.

Seems like success

DOWNSWING

This was slow speed, but it’s the first time I’ve been able to perform the swing in one motion.

Seems like progress.

I still can’t keep my butt on the line during transition - don’t have the mental capacity to really work on it yet.

For next time- Try to achieve backswing success at a little faster speed.

I spent the last 2-3 sessions trying to get my hand-path more “in” from P1-P2.

I got pretty messed up with getting my priority piece- and other things started to happen- bad things!

so I had to get back to where I was.

GOALS

  1. Trail heel stays down in the backswing
  2. butt goes back during backswing
  3. hand-path “in” from P1-P2
  4. Downswing: throw club down and behind me

P1-P2

Hands are still moving a tad “out”. It is hard to combine this with moving my butt back.

I’ll keep at it, but my butt moving back is more important.

 P3-P4

F1B08933-AD9E-481B-A508-351A14611D32.thumb.jpeg.a664598f01f26353b103acd395c54d40.jpegCF3CD26A-67ED-47D6-A7A9-2AC5C0174B50.thumb.jpeg.cb384f20817cdb428cd9d584b5c38690.jpeg

My butt is still behind the line and the trail heel seems to be down on the ground pretty good.

I had a lot of trouble getting this move back. I was trying to “turn”my right butt behind the line. And it failed, heel came up and all of that.

I had more success “pushing” my right butt behind the line while driving that trail heel “back”

DOWNSWING

Im really trying to throw “cast” the club down and behind me.

I know the face is open, and I can flex my lead wrist to close it, but then I’ll stop throwing the club down and handle-drag.

Now that I’m getting better with the backswing stuff, I’m going to focus on throwing the club more behind me.

And if you don't, you can play a little fade. 😄

GOALS:

  1. BACKSWING: Build on success of last session. Butt goes back through the line
  2. DOWNSWING: Throw the club back behind me

I was swinging as slow as I could to produce the move - I wanted to see how fast I was actually swinging.

P1-P2

8E5D071F-BF55-4F1E-8040-B66FC3C15D20.thumb.jpeg.65240848a710c26812525c949675cec8.jpeg

Hands are still moving out and head is moving down.

I think I’m pushing my butt back too early. I’m going to try shifting away from the target, then pushing my butt back at P2.

I’ll map it at home for a bit, but I want to work on the downswing stuff more.

P4-P5.5?

Butt is behind the line still, trail heel seems ok.

The swing thought I had the most success with was to get my elbows and hands down to the ground as fast as possible- self explanatory if you watch the drill in the video.

Today was a decent session. Downswing work is a little more fun than backswing work.
