I'm all about shortening my drivers - I just make better center club face contact with a shorter shaft.     It works out exponentially better for me than trying to hit a full length driver.    Heck, Tiger even shortens his driver, so thats good enough for me ...

Before u lop off a 1/2" or so just choke down and hit it.  See how that goes.

I like the suggestion of a senior shaft rather than cutting yours.

I went to the range and choked down as you suggested, I hit them nice and straight, felt like I had a lot more control. It did feel strange at first but after about 40 drives it felt very comfortable. I can't tell about distance given I was hitting range balls and it was cold out but I'm not really concerned with 5 to 10 yards, I just want to be on the short grass. In the spring or on the next warm day I'll play and remember to choke down and see how it goes. I'll wait to cut it down for now. Thanks for the recommendation, I don't know why I didn't think about it.

For decades the drivers shafts were 43.5 " in length (think Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus). I trimmed my Titleist shaft from 45" to 43.5" and I improved significantly in hitting the sweet spot, so I didn´t lose any distance.Yes, the swingweight went down from D3 to C6 but honestly I still find it very playable so I left swingweight alone. Choking down does not work for me.

I talked to a Pro, (Brian), in a Golf Shop not a big name store like Dicks or Golf Galaxy, not that I have anything again them. He also suggested I take 3/4" off the butt because Ping makes their shaft specs longer by 3/4", i.e., what would be a "normal" 45" shaft Ping make a 45 & 3/4" shaft, so I went ahead and had them do it, regripped with a nice Ping grip. On the launch monitor and at the range I do feel like I have more control, (maybe it is all in my head, who knows), but I appear to be hitting them straighter but I wont know for sure until the weather warms and I'm able to get out on the course. We'll see.

You will definitely hit it better. No doubt. Anyone who tells you differently is just wrong. It is simple physics and basic golf 101. Try writing your name with a pencil held at the tip, then try again holding it back in the middle. See which gives you the better result. Same deal with your driver. Don't have any trepidation, you are on the right track.
