If you mean from the PGA Tour and ShotLink, I don't think they're tracking whether the flagstick is in or out on a given shot.

Edoardo rolled a lot more balls - a LOT more - I believe, than MyGolfSpy.

Neither seems to have rolled the thousands Pelz has rolled, or the 2500 or so that I rolled, but still. Edoardo rolled 1800? I think. I think he rolled at least 900.

Again, I'm not talking about the physics of the thing, I am looking at the overall scoring effect (in the context of Faldo talking about course records being asterisked).  If being able to keep the pin in has a significant enough effect that scoring records have to be asterisked (as compared to all of the equipment improvements and other rule changes that have affected scoring) then it would show up in aggregate score reductions and, more importantly, the balance between number of putts vs. number of non-putts making up the total score.

It would be nice to have the additional info of which putts had the flag in and which didn't, but I do not think it is necessary to the analysis.  But I also won't be surprised if within a relatively short order the pin-in/pin-out  data starts getting collected.

You missed the part-I think they edited it out-Where he basically called EriK-I got it right that time-a liar or something. Of course he is latching on-He is a troll desperate to WIN something, anything.

The way I see it the net advantage is still to leave the flagstick in and I can give full weight to the EM study even while ignoring the flaws and it still comes out on that side of things.

@iacas-Do you consider any study conclusive?

You know that Molinari works with this website in regards to 5SK right so he's not going to talk bad about the results because the person who ran the test is affiliated with the site. I don't see anything wrong with looking for a different perspective and posting my findings which is all I did. I really don't care if you putt with the the flag in or out but you act like you are being fair and objective once a different viewpoint is put out there.

Wrong.

Wrong again. I said no, and have replied re: this test multiple times.

That's not "all you did."

It looks weird but it doesn’t affect me watching the game at all. I think you’ll see a lot of players experiment with leaving it in 100% when they go through slumps in their putting game. I personally think it’s good for long putts but not a fan of it on short putts. But hey, it is what it is.

I like it for watching on TV, particularly on long putts. You can actually see where they are going on long range shots

Maybe a response that most accurately actually addresses the thread title.  It's about 'watching' the pros do this.

I agree with you.  I like that it helps to easier show where the hole is.

Why has Adam Scott stopped putting with the stick in on all his putts?

  • It wasn't working?
  • His caddie got tired of putting it back?
  • He got sick of being made fun of?
  • People put flagsticks in his locker every week?
  • He started having nightmares?

BTW just saw Scott make eagle with the pin in from about 15 feet on #6 to get to -6.

And again from about 7' on the 10th hole to get to -8.
