I’ve got a small 10x8 artificial turf green in my backyard, slopes off on all sides so that the flat area is about 6x6, that I use for short game practice, especially 30-50 yard shots. Tough green to hold, but it has helped my short game loads. Does anybody else have something like this in their yard?

WITB:
Woods: Cleveland Launcher (Driver, 17 degree, 22 degree)
Irons: Titleist T200 (4-PW)
Wedges: Callaway Jaws (50/54/60)
Putter: Odyssey White Hot

My father grew up with a 9 hole course in his backyard. The way he told it, the holes ranged in yardage from 20-70 yards. His sister inherited the house, but the course has probably been gone for over 50 years. My current yard is about 15x40 feet. Been thinking about shaping and turfing it into a practice green. Does anyone have experience with just largish practice greens?

Someone must! Consider some of the double greens at the Old Course, or the 9th green at Oakmont. Besides, 15X40 is only 600 sq ft. That's actually kind of small. And you will need to cut it. Do you have, or are you prepared to foot the expense of, a greens mower?

When I say turf it, I mean artificial. Would just be a putting green and maybe chipping from some real grass in a small 6x15 patch that wouldnt be turfed over. It is really flat, thats why i mentioned shaping.

The real draw of it for me is not having to drag the mower up the stairs to mow the 2 patches.

Given your location, I'd really look into how artificial turf will handle winters.

I'm lucky to help clients build their backyard dream facilities....currently building "Green Complex #1" on this three green, four tee box, Par 3 Course at a private "Lake House" residence outside of Dallas.
