I was referring to the pole results which showed that the majority of voters were okay with Zinger.

I don’t think scores of 2 or 3 are all that good.

Zinger does seem a little bland so far, but maybe he'll get better. Nobody ever mentions Gary "Better Than Most" Koch. He doesn't have the resume' of tour wins and hasn't won a major, but he has a great voice and really knows the game inside and out. While I'm sure a lot of casual golf fans have no idea who he is, I think he would do well in the booth with Dan Hicks.

Good point.  Kock would be great.  But so would almost any of the announcers on that team.  Here's who I think should have gotten that job in order of preference

1) Jacobson

2) Feherty

3) Begay

4) Koch

5) Maltbie

Azinger's career record doesn't justify getting the job.  12 Tour wins and one major?  That gives him superior insight vrs these announcers who not only have solid PGA careers, but tons of announcing experience?  I don't get it.

Gary Koch?

Vomit.

Oh my, I would struggle to come up with someone I'd hate MORE.

The next time Gary Koch has an original thought will be the first time.

I always liked Johnny because he had a great career and I don't think he really gave a Sh$t about what any of the younger tour guys thought. That might be harder to do these days. Who has that kind of clout to make those comments? Tiger? Maybe Tom Watson? I don't think any of guys mentioned before (Koch, Jacobson, Feherty (especially), Begay) have done enough with their golf clubs. Maybe Faldo?

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)
Odyssey two ball putter (white)

Great point.  I loved MIller's 'tude.  Who could bring that to the booth?  Not Tiger, he's always parsed his words.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, I think we'll see Mickelson as a lead announcer.  He's a talker and has WAY more charisma than Miller ever had.  Would he be incendiary like Miller?  My guess is yes, he would want to make it interesting.  And to your point, besides Tiger, he's the only guy left who can back it up.

Re the Begay trolls ... when I first heard he was going to announce, I thought he might be a Team Tiger plant, put in there to fawn over Woods in exchange for special access.  But I've been very impressed with his commentary and announcing voice.  He's here to stay, despite the haters.

Azinger is doing a decent job and will hopefully become more at ease and natural as he gets more experience.  He did have a Major win and a good career and has been there, although not the same stature as a Johnny Miller or Nick Faldo.

Either Geoff Ogilvy or Phil would be my personal preference. And as much as I hate to say it, I feel like Bones doesn’t add very much to the broadcast. Everything he says seems very obvious.

Ogilvy.. interesting.

Bones is kinda boring now that you mention it.

A little dull, but it is nice to get a caddy’s perspective. I wish he would say, “what the heck is Phil doing?” once in a while!

Let's be honest.  How smart do you have to be to caddy for Phil?  In his prime, he could have won a PGA tournament with one arm tied behind his back.

Uh, yeah! And, errrr, maybe not! Bones' greatest sin was one of omission. NOT yanking the driver out of Phil's hands on the 18th at Winged Foot, snapping it over his knee, handing Phil the 3 wood and saying "Hit this!" Instead, Phil parks it in the grandstand and we all know happened after that!

Haha!  Fair enough.  Hey, I'm a Tiger guy, not a Phil guy.  But 44 PGA Tour wins and 5 majors?  I'd say his good decisions far outweighed his few "Tin Cup" moments.

Given the depth of today's fields and fact that golf has become strictly a "drive and putt" game.  I doubt we'll see any of these young guns of today surpass Phil's career stats.  By the way, by 'drive and putt', I mean that Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus dominated golf with their long irons.  Those clubs mostly stay in the bag now, except on some Par 5's.  Tiger and Phil had to dominate with their putting, and their percentage career stats don't match their historic peers  because equipment improvements have penalized the superior ball strikers.  In other words, it's my opinion that if modern players were to use older equipment, Tiger and Phil would have dominated even more than they did.

Phil himself has said that a 3W (I think he was carrying a 4W that week) wouldn't have gotten to the corner or gotten to a place where he could reach the green in two.

So driver was the right play.

He just made a bad swing.

I was glad when I heard Johnny was retiring. Can’t stand him. I was also happy when Fox got the US Open. No Johnny.

Zinger is okay. He was good with Faldo back in the day. On his own, I guess time will tell. If I had to make a guess, he’ll end up annoying me. At least we won’t have to hear about the final round 63, every, single, week.

Feherty, yuck.

McCord, yikes.

Begay, no. Never ever. Can’t stand him.

Justin Leonard? NO!

Chamblee. Meh.

Nobilo. No.

I wouldn’t mind Koch. Or Clampett if he jumped to NBC.

It’s too bad Oosty retired. He was my favorite.

    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
