  1. Are you noticing that when you think outside of the box on this website that the entire forum tries to jump down your throat?  I completely understand everything that you are saying in the playing golf without a though thread and it is amazing to me how no one can even make sense of what you are saying.  I am literally blown away by reading the responses.  Best of luck with your golf journey but realize that you are examining golf at a much deeper level than most can comprehend.  Take care R to L

Time will tell what? Whether your definition of "ballstriking" holds up? No. Whether ballstriking is the single most important part of scoring? Time has told on that one. Whether players with a swing thought can perform well? Same answer: time has told.

      Thanks for the chuckle.

Here's what's actually happening, because it's got nothing to do with "thinking outside the box." While each of you probably see what you're saying as "the truth," and you see everyone else just being "sheep" (you've used the word "flock"), and you see yourself on some noble quest to share enlightened information (really, "you are examining golf at a much deeper level than most can comprehend"? Uh, no.)… what's actually happening is that both of you have unfounded opinions which not only defy common sense but defy actual practical application, what we see day to day in the real world.

@Righty to Lefty: Ballstriking is historically defined as including the ball's distance and direction. If you want to discard those, that's fine, but almost everyone's going to disagree. They'll also point out that your facts are wrong when you say that ballstriking doesn't matter much in determining a golfer's score, and they'll also say bad things about your opinion that a golfer is not really playing golf and shouldn't be concerned with distance or direction so long as they aren't positive that every shot will be solidly hit.

@Puttin4Dough: You're arguing against having any sort of swing thoughts, and say that it's a "negative" thing that causes "tension" and that nobody will reach a high level if they are thinking over the ball. You trot out really bad "stair" analogies… that don't even hold up to people running up the stairs, and have yet to demonstrate that you even know what a swing thought IS because it's certainly NOT "thinking about what muscles you need to move to lift up your left leg and put it on the next step." Nor are they "negative" or cause tension. You maintain this despite plenty of evidence thatt Annika Sorenstam (a Vision 54 gal), Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, recent PGA Tour winners, major champions, and more all clearly demonstrating or saying that they have swing thoughts over the golf ball.

You're not tilting at windmills nor are you on some noble quest to educate those of us who can't think about things as such a deep level… you're just continually expressing opinions that almost nobody agrees with or getting basic facts wrong. Your opinions lack a foundation, and once they're let out of the vacuum chamber that is your head, they're crushed by the weight of reality.

  3. Brutal honesty here… I need to either post less frequently or take more time with my posts when I do post.

I like to post, but sometimes I do it poorly. I want to say something, but in trying to squeeze a response in between doing ten other things, it's short. Short posts come across poorly; far more poorly than I hear them in my head when I write them.

I absolutely suck - always have - at getting my "tone" right online. I constantly come across poorly. Yeah, I can be a dick, but I'm a way bigger dick the way people read my posts than the way I write them, particularly when I'm writing in a hurry. Short posts come across so much more poorly (that's not the only problem, just one of the issues), more aggressively, than intended. This forum has never really had the conversational tone of short replies with some back-and-forth. Partly because I'm as likely as anyone (or more so) to post a long post.

I don't know what can change about that, but… I'm aware of it. I get it, and get that I'll probably never even be "good" at it, but can be "better." And that I'm committed to working on that this winter in particular.

If I post something that seems less than "good," PM me about it. Be specific. I might not agree, and I might explain what I'm thinking (which doesn't mean I disagree), but I'll look at what you have to say with an open mind.

I disagree, @TN94z. Your posts didn't come across that way at all.

Mine, well, mine sucked. I'm making some changes, here and in "meatspace," for the better.

I can't do much about other people, @Lihu, just myself. And I intend to.

  5. Doing a deep dive on the short game - vids, books, internet. Going to put in the work on the short game which I've neglected this year, make more use of video doing so.

FWIW, our stuff is kind of a blend of Sieckmann and Utley. But better. ;-)

Glad you're back. Even if it's gonna be awhile before we get out on the course again.

  7. I got my first hole in one yesterday!  I used a 7 Iron on a 125 yd Par 3.  It was pretty breezy, so I was just trying to punch a low runner up to the green.  The course was so dry, I thought for sure it was going to run through the green by about 10 yards.  It must have landed farther in front of the green then I thought it did and just rolled in!

I hope this was posted in a thread somewhere too!!!

      Congratulations!

  10. Not feeling too well. I caught a pretty typical cold.

  11. Doh, Tinactin foot powder spray, not liquid.

  12. Hi all,

Totally new here. I'm down in the Palm Springs area and looking to play golf later this week. Any recommendations?

The best place to ask these kinds of questions is in the forum itself. People don't often look at status updates on profiles, particularly of a user that has no posts on the site.

  13. Switching from Time Warner to AT&T today for internet and TV. Internet speed is ok with Time Warner but it goes down once or twice a month and we're fed up with it. AT&T sold us on faster internet speeds, more reliable connection, better cable/TV package and it's $50 less a month. AT&T U-verse looks pretty cool and more user friendly that was TW has.

The best thing I have is TW here… but it's always been pretty darn good (except the stuff detailed on my blog from a LONG time ago).

And of course, DirecTV is better for television… :-D
