  1. 78. And that is the first time I've been under 80 on a par-72. (All the other times were at a par-70.)
  2. 84. Only hit two fairways. ...says something about how easy the course is...
  3. 1. 14 2. OK, CA, MI 3. Nothing
  4. 79! That's a good score for me. And on any course other than my local muni, I would have shot in the 90s. Only hit 4 fairways.
  5. I lived in Catalonia for extended stretches in the past --- big Barcelona fan. I just wish they hadn't signed Chompers this summer. :(
  6. Fowler " You bring a certain cool factor to everything you do and might even take part in adventure sports in your spare time. Despite your youthful outlook on life, you have respect for tradition and are willing to work hard to get better at what you do. " West Coast (where I'm from) & motorcycle did it? I certainly have zero 'cool factor', and I don't think I've ever had a youthful outlook, but I am willing to work hard to get better. ...more fun than a horoscope, I suppose....
  7. 87 and unhappy. The scores of early summer have apparently headed south for the winter... a few months early.
  8. ...that he plays golf?
  9. My fitting was similar to what Eric describes, but there were two aspects of my fitting that did not measure up: FIRST: Your Aim Bias Do not look up! Do not look at the laser dot on the backdrop, and do not ask your fitter where you're aiming.....Trust him and don't peek. I tried not to peek, but it was too easy to see out of the corner of my eye. Then, later in the process, my fitter started to encourage me to look at it. I think he had decided on a particular configuration at that point, and he wanted me to see that: 1) my aim was off by about half-to-a-full cup with my previous putter, and 2) when he put alignment lines on my putter (which I thought I would need), it drew my aim off by up to a full cup. Then he showed me where I was aiming with the putter he thought worked best for me. Plenty of Room Because of the way an Edel putter fitting works, you should do this outdoors or in an area indoors where there are no things around you. Do not get fit on a narrow mat, as the edges of the mat will "steer" your aim. Do not get fit next to furniture, walls, or other weird shapes, as they will mess with the way your eyes and brain see "straight." You want your putter fitting to be as similar to how you'd line up a putt outside on a golf course (there aren't many walls or lines on the putting greens at golf courses). I got fit indoors, lining up from about 6 or 7 feet away from the cup, and there were a few old boxes and other odds and ends being stored in the room. I was a bit disappointed with that to be honest. ...but I still got the putter, and I love it. We did the distance fitting outdoors, and we spent a lot of time on the shaft and club-head weighting.
  10. http://www.theatlantic.com/features/archive/2014/03/hey-parents-leave-those-kids-alone/358631/ That's a good read. As a relatively new parent and a guy that grew up in the country.... I have mixed feelings about the degree of hovering that parents are 'supposed to do' these days. I'd like to give my kids more freedom to fail and triumph on their own (and learn from it)...
  11. ...only one club? My Edel putter. Otherwise, I am also very happy with my Apex Plus irons.
  12. 7i I am okay with the 6i and 5i off a tee, but not consistent from the fairway. The 7i, on the other hand, I'm usually okay with whether off a tee or from the fairway.

    Breaking 85

Specifics? This is what worked for me: 1. Pick one wedge, and use it for ALL your shots near the green (unless you really, really need to use something else). -I used to mix and match a couple of 52, 54, 56, 58, and 60 wedges into the bag and I'd hit shots with anything from a 58 to a 5-iron. ...and I sucked at all of them. Then I decided to just pick one wedge and really try to learn it. I picked the 52 (and I use the 58 from sand). For anything 100yds or less, I use the 52, and once I picked just one club and stuck with it, my 'feel' shots started to improve, I gained confidence and (some) consistency, and my short game got better. (Not great , but better .) 2. Practice lag putts and 4-footers. -I still suck at putting, and I still miss a putt or two per round from 4-5 feet, but I've gotten a bit better at lagging to that distance. (Some of that was also getting fit for an Edel...) 3. Set goals and reward yourself for making them. --When I first started, I bought a TopFlite set, but I wanted nicer stuff. I promised myself that when I broke 100, I would upgrade the irons, and I did. When I broke 95, I got a new driver. Then I found some Hogan Apex Plus irons for $85. I bought them, but didn't let myself put them in the bag until I broke 90. When I broke 80 from the tips for the first time, I promised myself an Edel putter if I could do it again. ...and so on. 4. Vary the tees that you play. -Similar to point #3, and I still do this. If I play over bogey golf, then in my next round, I have to play up a set of tees. If I play under bogey golf, then I move back a set of tees. ...I like playing from the black tees (the tips), so it helps put a bit of pressure on me to keep my concentration when I'm finishing out a ho-hum round. If you're trying to break 85, you could set that # at '95' or something like that. (I kind of like pressure... so this might backfire if you don't.) These are things that won't give you instant improvement in scoring, but my guess is that if you stick with them, you'd see a decent amount of improvement by the end of a season. It has certainly worked well for me.
  14. Late to the thread and ignoring the direction it took. I voted "Yes", but primarily because of the inclusion of "really". A bogey doesn't bother my round. A double might - depending on how I 'earned' it. A triple or higher would definitely affect my round --- certainly my enjoyment of the round. It might not have much affect on my overall score though. I almost never get birdies or eagles (#1 is a par 5), so... no idea if a really good score would help! ...probably help until the point where I squandered the shots...
  15. I just got a handicap. I only have eight rounds in so far, so only two count, and I've had my two best rounds of the summer, so... my (vanity) handicap is 7.1 and my anti-cap is 14.4 for a diff of 7.3. ...by the time I get 20 rounds in, I think my anti-cap will probably be closer to 16, and my handicap will probably be around 12 or 13. I still have a lot of variation in scoring, so I expect a difference of 5-6.
  16. I was B-Fit for Bridgestone TOUR B330‑S golf balls. 1. Ricky Fowler -13 2. Blixt, Jonas -13 3. Larrazabal, Pablo -14
  17. I'm interested to know what they are, and, depending on what they are, I might be *very* interested.
  18. Are they Apex Plus irons? Edge Pro? Can I have them?
  19. I hate to say this (because I really want to believe the hype), but I think Oklahoma is going to be overrated this year. The schedule is not a killer, and they'll start with a higher ranking than they deserve just because they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. If they stay healthy they have a chance to be okay, but there is little depth, and a bunch of skill just graduated/left. ...I'll still be glued to every game though!
  20. 78. And I didn't play particularly well --- just scored well. -only hit one fairway (9 GIR) -one three-putt, one one-putt, 16 two-putts I don't go below 80 often, so I'm pretty stoked!
  21. 80. THAT'S GOOD FOR ME!
  22. I want to win a Callaway Big Bertha Driver 1. Keegan Bradley -11 2. Ernie Els -11 3. Hunter Mahan -11
  23. Ummm.... "Hit the ball" ??? Actually, I mostly just try to limit myself to only ONE swing thought. Too many thoughts is problematic. I usually try to get myself to think: "Swing smooth, not hard."
  24. Is there a hole that.... Wait? "a" hole? ...just one?
  25. Pushcart -- ClicGear 3.0.Carrying a bag isn't bad, but I like being able to load up my bag with all sorts of extra crap (rain gear, water, extra balls, sunscreen, etc.). If I were carrying, that would be a pain. Pushing? No problem.
