  2. I personally like the look of Scotty Studio Select Newports, but what other kinds are there?
  3. I was thinking about buying a used Newport series putter and then sending it in to have it customized, any ideas on how much this will cost me. Cost of a good used Newport and the cost of the customization?
  4. Monday: Lifting for an hour and half, I do deep squats (4x7 or 5x5) with 275 or 315, bench 4x8 with 155, bent rows 3x10 with 135, then I use the rest of the time to do individual muscles with things like dumbell presses, curls, lat pulls, tricep ext, one-leg squats, leg press, leg ext, and hamstring curls. After that I run for 45 minutes 400 meters running then walk 200 meters then repeat as many times as possible in 45 minutes. We also do yoga or some form of cardio workout like kickboxing. Tuesday: Jumpstretch and kettlebell, jumpstretch is a local company that makes resistance bands specifically for athletes (they provide from 75-150 pounds of resistance). Wednesday: Recovery day... Thursday: Same as Monday's workout but different set and weight variations. Friday: Same as Tuesday's workout but with different kettlebell exercises Saturday/Sunday: Recovery days Also have to account for walking the golf course, but with the weather it's hard to tell when I'll be able to get out and play. In the summer I walk about 36-54 holes a day 4-5 days a week. I plan on starting p90x as soon as I get it, especially the ones for stretching and yoga, I need the flexibility. Friday:
  5. As for over training I don't think I am, because I allow my body time to recover. Here's how a week normally goes unless I decide to go to the other gym instead of working out at the school. Monday- Lifting Tuesday- Band resistance training and kettlebell Wednesday- Off day Thursday- Lifting Friday- Band resistance training and kettlebell Weekends are recovery As for golf I at least swing everyday, whether I play or not is dictated by the weather, but when summer rolls around I would say I play at least 5 out of 7 days a week. I plan to start running when this crappy weather gets out of here, but until then the only cardio I get is Monday and Wednesday at school during one of my classes. (We do things like: step aerobics, yoga, kickboxing, and various other things)
  6. I do the major barbell lifts that most people do and then I do different variations with both dumbbells and barbells. I end up doing about 4-5 sets of squat, 3-5 sets of bench, 3-4 sets of hex bar deadlifts, 3-4 sets of various types of rows, and anything else I can get it within an hour and a half. I also do a lot of body weight exercises like dips, push ups, one-leg squats, and this weird row like exercise. I also do strength bands once a week, which are specifically for explosive strength and speed. Another thought is that I can do kettlebell twice a week as well, but I've neglected to do it so far as the room we do it in is pretty small for the number of people that go, should I do kettlebell as well?
  7. Exactly, they may have the same name, but they are by no means the same shaft. Any shaft that you get in a stock driver is just a lesser form of the real shaft it is made to resemble. Most of them are co-engineered by the company that sells the club, in the previously mentioned clubs Titleist co-engineers these shafts alongside Mitsubishi.
  8. You might benefit from a better shaft. While the shaft says it is a Diamana Blue, it is actually a cheaper version of it that is offered by Titleist. The real Blue Board has technology that is far superior and therefore has a price tag that is almost equivalent to the price of the driver itself.
  9. That makes plenty of sense and it is true that all athletics require different things, but at the same time they all require a few of the same things: strength (explosive strength), endurance, stability, and flexibility.
  10. I have been checking this quite a bit, but I've pretty much set up my workout for the time being. However, I must ask one thing about what you said. You said you did a lot of dumbell exercises to maintain flexibility? I've always been taught that complex moves are much better for athletics, but either way you have to stretch.
  11. Well I would be the one spending the money, so that isn't a problem. I haven't ever tracked my handicap, but I plan to this year. I do play on a high school team and I also play summer tournaments. I will probably grow another 3-4 inches and probably pack on a lot more muscle over the next few years, but hopefully I can make it lean muscle not bulky muscle. And no my clubs are not holding me back, but from everything I hear about getting fit for everything, it is almost impossible not to think there aren't extra benefits out there.
  12. I'm 15 years old so I'm wondering whether it's worth getting fitted for all of my clubs and possibly investing in some after market shafts. I currently play: Titleist 909 D3 stiff 9.5 degree with stock shaft Taylormade Burner 2008 3 wood stiff with stock shaft Nickent 3DX 5H stiff with stock shaft (need suggestions for a new hybrid as well) Mizuno MP-52 3-PW stiff with stock shafts (Had the lie adjusted when I got them this past winter) Taylormade RAC wedges 52 and 56 degree Taylormade Rossa Daytona 33in putter Not sure if I would benefit from getting everything fit or buying new shafts but I could use some advice
  13. My bad I meant to put AP2, not AP1. But the point is if a person can't hit one club well what makes him think he will hit the other ones any better?
  14. If you are looking for an iron set for around that price I would seriously suggest looking at Mizuno. I believe someone made a comment about cast holding up better than forged, and that is absolutely false. If you are that serious about buying new clubs I would go with forged for two reasons. First, you should be getting the clubs fitted for you or else the only gain you are truly getting is a mental boost. Second, if you decide to get fitted, you will have forged clubs which can be bent several times to the loft/lie you want them to be. With cast you simply cannot do that. I would take a look at Mizuno's new irons: Game improvement set: JPX 800 it has a decently thin topline for a game improvement club and the ball just jumps off of the face. "Players" irons: MP 52/53, almost the same clubs the 52s and the 53s they provide a ton of forgiveness with some workability MP58, almost the exact same club as the AP1, but with a little more workability due to the size of the club face (slightly shorter) I was dead set on buying the AP1s until I hit the Mizunos, and I'm glad I chose Mizuno they make a great set of clubs
  15. I do back exercises I just didn't mention them I was in a rush when I typed out my workout. My workout varies quite a bit, but I tend to stick to full squats, bench (dumbbells or barbell), some form of a row, lat pulldowns, curls, decline situps, supermans for the lower back, and military press. But I often throw in other exercises too. I have heard that throughout the year there should be a shift in the way you workout. For example, 3-4 months endurance, 3-4 months strength, 3-4 months of just playing golf with minimal extra strain on the body. However, I feel that the 3 should be incorporate all throughout the year, but with variances week to week. I would get into yoga, but I don't know where to do it. Are there videos or something I could buy that would provide me with yoga exercises I could do at home? Also, I plan on working much harder throughout this golf season and then on into next fall and winter. I hope to improve my game and my overall health throughout this process and I guess time is the only thing that will show how much the work pays off.
  16. I'm looking for something more traditional looking. So ecco is pretty much out of the question. As for Nike they have more of an athletic look that I dont really want. I prefer Footjoy shoes as they offer a traditional look, with durability, quality, and comfort. So which ones would be best for walking:? (In order from highest price to lowest price) 1. FJ Icons 2. FJ SYNR-G 3. FJ Dryjoy 4. FJ Sport 5. FJ Superlite
  17. Any feelings towards Fj Dryjoys, FJ SYNR-G, or FJ Icon?
  18. I usually walk when I play and in the summer I sometimes walk up to 54-72 holes a day. I currently have a pair of Footjoy Superlites with FJ dryjoy insoles in them (extremely comfortable) and a pair of FJ E-Comforts (hurts my feet after about 18 holes). Anyone have any suggestions on some shoes that are very comfortable to walk in and don't hurt the feet? Or are there any insoles, like Dr. Scholls, that you can where in your golf shoes? Thanks.
  19. thanks, and I have considered Vokey wedges they are by far my favorite to hit
  20. Well here is what I have upgraded so far: Old New Irons Callaway X-16 (3-SW) Mizuno MP-52 (3-PW) Putter Taylormade Rossa Daytona **Suggestions?** Wedges Taylormade RAC 52/56 **Suggestions?** Hybrid Nickent 3DX 5 Hybrid **Suggestions?** 3w Taylormade 2007 Burner Taylormade 2008 Burner Driver Taylormade R7 Superquad 10.5 Titleist 909D3 9.5 (Still use both can't decide which one) Any and all suggestions are much appreciated.
  21. First, some background information: 15 years old 5 foot 7 190 lbs Lift 3-4 times per week Hit about 500 balls per week My stepfather thinks that by lifting I am going to lose flexibility in my swing. I told him that as long as I stretch before and after my flexibility will not be hindered, but rather increased as a result. What I do on days I lift: Exercise Weight Reps Sets Full Squat 275 7 4 Bench 150 10 3 Incline 135 8 3 Tricep Pushdown 150 10 3 Single Arm Ext. 40 15 4 Dumbbell Press 55 10 4 Front Squat 185 8 3 Core Workout for 15 minutes, then 15 minutes of jump rope After this I stretch extensively for about 15 minutes. Anybody think this will hinder my flexibility, and if so what should I change? Thanks, Josh
  22. I start my practice off with some stretching, no point in practicing if you risk injury. I then move on to my wedges 5 shots with each to a certain area. I follow up by progressing through my bag in this order 9i,7i,5i,3i,3w,driver taking 5-7 good strokes with each. After that I'm pretty much warmed up and can finally begin take some good swings. Being that I am 15 I feel as though I can just swing forever, often playing 54 holes a day and hitting up to about 500 balls a day. My coach gave me some advice last year and it is guaranteed to help anyone. For every ball you hit with anything other than a wedge, hit 2 with a wedge. After I get done playing all day I like spending the last hour of daylight putting and hitting shots into the 18th green from the bunkers, rough, and fairway.
