Definitely agree that a beginner could just purchase a set off the rack, and be good to go. But if money's not a concern, knock yourself out and get fitted. Fittings started on tour, to optimize the Pro's length off the tee (driver, 3w) and to dial in their wedges and putter. That filtered down into the masses as people wanted to play with clubs like their favorite pro used. And devices like launch monitors and radars became available for purchase that a regular teaching pro or retailer could acquire. Thus fittings became a thing. The challenge as others have said is that as you engage in instruction with a swing coach/teaching professional, your swing (arc/path/baseline) will likely shift which will make that fitting obsolete.

@mvmac So do you believe it's tempo? Should he invest in a Tour Tempo track?

When they say there is 'no touching' in the champagne room... That means you too Mr. Allenby.

Hey guys, I saw I was tagged here in this thread. Just wanted to confirm that I indeed do have the GoPro Black from a few Christmas' ago. It films 240fps at WVGA resolution which is great for the golf swing. There is a 'fish eye' effect which distorts the image a little, but you can post edit that out using the proper Adobe programs. Which some of my early vids did that, but it wasn't really worth the time/effort to post edit as the net results in my opinion is that you can see what you need to see in the swing even if the video has the fish eye effect that the GoPro lens creates. God Bless!

I'm out. I'll be in Taiwan 11/30 through 12/7. Have fun!!

Where's Grant on the list? And of course T_Dub (ladykiller69) is working with Evolr.
Also…?
Maybe he heard about the success we've had rehabilitating the careers of a few Euro Tour players…?

Well, that leaves... ZERO places in my area to buy golf equipment now then. Save for one or two of the mom and pop shops that pretty much ONLY sell Mizuno and PING
Support them... Mizzy and Ping make nice clubs.

I may be able to join this one? My Father-in-Law is planning on visiting my wife and I around Thanksgiving (dates have yet to be confirmed). Knowing that, my availability would be better toward the beginning of November, and would be worse the closer we get to T-Day.

OK good. I was discussing putter fittings with @Beachcomber this morning. He has the same reservations towards putter fitting that my practically legally blind wife does toward laser eye surgery. She's afraid that after she gets it done her eyes will continue to deteriorate, thus making the expensive surgery useless.
Beach says that since he tinkers with his putting setup that two weeks after he gets it, it won't work anymore because he'll have adjusted something.
Obviously, my first response is to stop screwing around with your putting setup and stroke, but my next response was that I don't think it works that way. Regardless of how you putt, the thing is fitted to your eye, so a putter you can aim with a traditional grip is a putter you can aim with a cross handed grip, or any other style. Or is he correct about that one?
I haven't done the fitting because I have vertigo when I stand over putts... That's why I can't aim, and that's why I suck at putting!
Honestly, I agree that if you have settled on one setup/ball placement, and don't tool around with it... Then you should be fine with an Edel fitting. Unfortunately for me... I had/have screwed around with my putting stance, ball placement, stroke type, putter length, weight, etc. etc... In the last three years, that if I would've been fitted by Edel, I'm afraid the fitting would've been nullified by all the changes that I made? That is why I was afraid to do a fitting, and then the fitting be voided after a handful of mods I made to one of the previous items... Basically creating more variables from the initial fitting.
As I mentioned to @Golfingdad my stance really changed as I wanted to be more connected, keeping my elbows on my torso, so that I was using less arms, and more torso/shoulder turn to complete the stroke. I wanted my stroke to mimic what Josh Zander is teaching (see the following video)... In order to match/memic Zander's stroke, I had to cut my putter down from 34" down to 30", and really modify the way I addressed/stood over the ball. Before, I was more of an upright putter (putter was 34") - and used my arms - and my elbows weren't connected to my torso. All of these changes in my setup/stroke, modified my vantage point when looking down the line.
Now that I have solidified my setup/stroke... Maybe now would be a better time to get the Edel fitting? I still am not crazy about the lack of customization options they offer though. From what I have seen, they look dull and aren't as sexy as a fresh looking Scotty. Just my .02.

Mophie Juice pack. I can go days without charging my phone with it. And I have Bluetooth, Wifi and LTE all running on the iPhone 5. It's like ~$100 accessory, but worth every penny as I travel a lot. And as GD mentioned, can use the GPS apps playing golf with no impact at all on the battery.

Journey. Don't stop! Believing.

I'd like to play somewhere other than Temecula Creek. I've played there a lot. It's nice. But for me to drive 2 hrs. I'd rather play a better course.

Who the hell is the freak with his paws on my golf bag?!
@mvmac thank you for posting a swing and a few feels to consider... I'll work on the right palm/wrist and try and prevent it from overflexing from A3 to A4. Definitely would like to see that club become more square at A4 and believe you nailed the weakness in your observation.
Sorry about being sporadic on here... Baby and work have both taken a lot of my downtime!!

May 4th sounds good for me... I'm not aware of any conflicts.

I'd like to play... Just need to checkout the calendar once a date is set. Perhaps late April or early May? Black Gold sounds good to me...

Had fun playing Goose Creek this past Sunday. Thanks to Mike and Tristan for putting this event together... And Erik and Brandon for traveling into Socal to participate. It was a good time and great to see everyone again.
Look forward to playing in the next outing...

I just walked 5 miles and realized how much I'm out of shape! What a pansy ass. I need to try and hit the range tonight so I don't look like a total hack tomorrow!

I was confused. I was thinking Westwood was working with Chuck Cook? But then realized it was Luke Donald who wanted to work with Foley, but Foley said he was fully loaded and recommended Luke to work with Chuck. Carryon.

Thanks for having me. Looking forward to it. Erik, my cap is a 7 right now. And that is being generous. I blame my child for that! Lol

I'm in... Can I play with Pakoh, Golfswine and Golfingdad... aka Cheese? We have a Beach/Lake Cup that we are competing for...
SCISC - Mens League
in Golf Courses and Architecture
Just wanted to send a quick note as I get contacted ~ quarterly from various golfers who must of stumbled on this thread... Unfortunately, I'm no longer playing golf at this time, nor a part of the SCISC. Not that I don't love the game, but having two babies since December of 2013 has changed how I handle my free time immensely (translation - I barely get to play anymore
).
So if you're looking to play in a men's league, please contact the members on this site as they can get you connected with folks who are playing regularly, and some in organized leagues.
Hit'em straight!
