I don't even know how to reply to people who think that. If golf isn't a sport then im not good at ANY sports. It's all I have to brag to my buddies about. :-D seriously people can believe what they want I guess. I figure it has key aspects tha define it as a sport for me. 1)exercise 2) competition 3) it takes practice to even be average

Mine would most definitely be "Mrs. Putts"

Irons. I can play a three iron off the tee if I had to
-
Hey all I have a question. I hit my irons very well. Five or six tears ago I purchased a set of Cleveland TA7's and I didn't hit them very well. I adjusted my swing by moving my hands forward and playing the ball back on my stance a bit and I am very comfortable with my irons now. I hit them straight and long enough (6 iron is about 160). Today I got paired up with a guy who said " you know, your form is all wrong, you could be a decent golfer if you fixed that". Well he got in my head and made me wonder if I should fix something I didn't think was broken. What are your thoughts? If I'm happy with my results should I care about "correctness"?

Got a story and its a bit long sorry.....but I don't often have anything interesting to write about....this one was very ummmm interesting. Last evening I went up to my local course to get a late 9 in by myself. The guy at the club house asks if I would mind pairing up and although I was looking forward to some alone time, I said sure. Well I get paired up with a woman, younger (30ish) fairly attractive and my first thought is, God please don't let anyone see me because my wife will never believe me that this wasn't some kind of date. Well it turns out she is the sister of my sons teacher, is nice and a pretty good golfer. So I relax and am having a decent round. 5th hole is the only par 5 on the front; its about 510 from the ladies and she hits a monster drive over the drainage ditch I use for my "really good drive" indicator when I hit from the men's tee's 10 yards back . Her Second shot is a great 3wood, I tell her "I think you're on" but she says" it looked like it rolled off the back". Well my third shot is off to the right of the green about 10 feet and I walk up to it while she goes to look for her ball.....then the scream...as she's walking across the green she reaches into the cup and bingo, there it is......I hoot because I'd never seen anyone put one in in two before...she runs across the green jumps up and wraps her arms and legs around me and plants a big one on me.....OH HELL! I let out an uncomfortable laugh and finish out the hole and I'm a wreck. I tell her I'm not sure what to call that but it was awesome! Her reply.........Too bad you're married, I'd love to celebrate that right now.....After that I shot the worst 4 holes I think of my life......got home and I had to look up what a 3 under par was really called...I know I should have known it but I didn't. I know this sounds like the start of a dear penthouse letter and all but it is 100% legit and to be honest I think the albatross was the more amazing thing.....in 25 years of golf I'd never seen one and I've seen plenty of women wanting to "celebrate"

I'd like to think that if it was me that guy would have been walking funny on his way off the course with that wedge sticking out of his..... but thats not likey the case. I'd say you handled it great. But as far as the penalty stroke....I'm all for the spirit of the game but I think SAgolfluvr got it right...I would have treated it like GUR and never blinked an eye. A tourney or if I was playing against someone...different story but if Im out for the pure enjoyment of the game...Treat it as GUR and move on knowing you likely saved the course more unsightly hacking.

Fantastic! Its a great feeling when you hit a milestone.

Well, I wanted to read more if that is any indication of anything.....

My point for buying these tees wasn't the biodegradable factor honestly. I liked the ones I got free because they held up so well. The real question here was if anyone had seen the grass seed tees. I'm curious if they were ever made. I found the original patent was filed in the 20's

not much sense having a corvette in the garage if you don't have a license.....sure love to look at it but not much good if you can't drive it.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this....she insists on playing from the mens tees... because "wheres the competition in that".....seriously guys, I'm in soooo much trouble

Last year I gave a buddy a set of cobra irons. He told me he hated them, in the end he traded them in for a set of used TM's that he can't hit either hahahaha. I'm going golfing with hime in a half hour....I'll be sure to tease him by saying..."prob would have hit that shot with those cobras" I'd say try them first...see how you hit them, if you feel uncomfortable with them then tell your buddy, "hey these are great but they're too advanced for my level of play. Do you want them back or do you mind me trading them in for a set of game improvement irons?" If he truly wanted you to just have them then he'll let you do what you want with them. I believe that people are more understanding then we give them credit for and if people were more frank, the world could be different place.

I'm screwed....my wife just said...hey I got a sitter for Sunday so we can go golfing again..I then had to text my 3 buddies and say..."I'm out for Sunday" by the end of the summer she will be beating me...you just watch....

I used to play at a private club near me once or twice a year and I always thought it was great they had a large bucket of corn tee's (tees made from corn that are decompose quickly) for all players to use. Just go up grab a handful and away you go......Well they stopped the practice and I hadn't seen them since ,until this year. I picked up a box of 1000 corn tees on fleabay for 28 bucks but they just didn't seem the same as the ones I remembered. They hold up great on the course and I'd say they seem to last longer than wood but break easier than plastic. Well just for giggles I put one in a bucket of water on my deck after a day it was "slimey" feeling and after a week it was "gooey" after 16 days it was dissolved (mostly). I don't really think its a necessary thing and I use them mostly because they are a cool conversation starter and they weren't expensive. I got thinking there was a discussion years ago of someone who filed for a patent for a golf tee made out of grass seed that explode on impact....those, I think would be cool. I'm not sure if anyone ever actually made it. Anybody ever seen one of these?

I was golfing with a buddy the other day and he was having trouble putting a club in his bag because it was hitting something. We fished out a baby bib, plastic toy and a 1/2 eaten piece of toast out of his bag...... Myself...this year at the beginning of the season while I was getting everything ready to go, I found $50 bucks in there that I must have stashed from last season....that was cool.

I think you did well on that deal. I have purchased a lot of clubs on the flea bay and I have yet to be burned...its all about knowing what to look for and who to buy it..now I did buy a NIKE Dryfit shirt that I thought I was stealing...only to get a knock off...got my money back but the hassle isn't worth it....like my dad used to say...if it looks to good to be true, somebodys getting suckered.

About $100 at Turning Stone Casino resort (Shenandoah)....best course I've ever played but expensive for my taste..

she won't play enough to beat me....if she ever joined a league or played regularly...she'd beat me easy..just a natural tallent....ticks me off sometimes.....like at every other sport....

This is a hard one because there are really two sides to the story....When I started playing golf I didn't know anybody who played, what to wear, what I was supposed to do. Had I been told there was a dress code when I got there, I likely would have been so embarrassed I wouldn't have gone back....(bad for the game) or thought to myself..."golf is a bunch of stuffy, better than thou, idiots that I don't want to be associated with" However, now I play "nice" courses with dress codes (nothing crazy) more than others and when I go there I expect "nice" dress and "nice" people and "nice" play.....and I get it so I think that is good for the game.... In the end, if I'm paying more than say $40 bucks a round, I would expect dress codes and rule enforcement....at $13 for nine holes...I don't expect much nor do I care much... EDIT: Holy crap I just saw how old this thread was....OOPS

OK OK OK Yes I took my wife golfing today..... First a little background. My wife is an athletically inclined big time. She was all state in high school three sports and is a phys. ed teacher and she can be very emasculating at times when we go head to head (in pretty much anything) I hate admitting it but its true....That said she plays golf twice a year at most but I've always seen potential there..just not much enthusiasm to play. She had never broken 50 and seldom even played 18 holes. Well this year I picked her up a new set of taylormade irons, new driver, new fairway woods, new spikes, new bag and even a new glove just to get her a little more psyched about playing, and she has been but hasn't been able to get out for a full round at all. Well tonight we did....after a huge slice on 1, I gave her two pointers, one on ball placement on her drive, and keeping her left arm straight....BOOM she's driving them straight down the fairway 180--220 every time..her chipping was bad...I told her to stop breaking her wrist...BAM she popping them up and on for short putts.....she ended up shooting a 47 and got par on #3 and birdied #6...I'm in trouble...golf was the only thing I could beat her at..I think I've created a monster. WHY WHY WHY did I do this to myself????? Seriously though, I do enjoy playing golf with my wife. Anybody else play golf with their spouse/other? Hows that go?, Oh and for the record...I shot a 41 so she still hasn't beat me yet.....

I get a membership at my local course. The biggest advantages I have found is that I can run over and play 5 holes if time is short and I feel comfortable just going up at anytime of day and hitting the chipping green etc. I play additional courses often but it is still a nice thing to know that I can always play my "home" course when ever I want to. I'm not ever going to be good enough to think that my home course is boring...I will say however that you get comfortable with it. I always know to grab my 5 iron and lay up on the 6th because I can reach it in two...or I KNOW I have to hit the right side of the green on the 3rd because that is the favorable side to putt from. Boring no..but sometimes lacking the challenge some others give. I too had concerns but in the end I believe it is worth it.

Warning...I typically ramble when I post...... I don't know what it is but something has changed in my golf game. I like to think I'm an average player who loves this game and just goes out to have fun, get out, etc....Ive never really taken the game seriously because for me it isn't a just sport its a hobby and simply something I enjoy with friends or alone. Anyway two weeks ago, something changed. My driver is straight and Ive picked up about 30 yards, I'm hitting my irons further, (almost 2 clubs different, 6 is now an 8) My chipping is (if I may say so) fantastic.and my putting is well my putting is still fair at best but its easier because my chipping is so much better. Don't get me wrong, this is golf, I still suck...I'm just sucking soooo much better and and if I can hit a consistent 80-83 like my last 90 holes...noooo problem I'll be happy I'm sure a lot of it is muscle memory and just the fact that I'm playing more lately but Ive had years where I played league and weekends etc and still couldn't find this comfort zone. I picked up a new driver at the beginning of the season, purchased three new wedges and re-gripped my clubs but that was all in March...I'm just seeing results in the last two weeks and I take very little stock in the whole "equipment changes everything" idea. I've hit long drives before, hit my irons good and chipped well in the past....these last two weeks its more of "everything coming together" thing.... Told you I ramble... Edit: As I re-read this post I realize there wasn't much of a question in it....I guess I just wanted to point out that sometimes a blind squirrel finds a whole barrel of nuts.....

I promise that as soon as I figure it out, I will tell the world

next year you have to talk her into letting you join a weekly league....then you add the occasional weekend in....THEN next year you play league and every other weekend....THEN the following year you add the extra tee time and BOOM you have enough golf to satisfy your need and your wife doesn't get mad.... Its all about baby steps my friend.
