  1. More Range Troubles, lol..

Been goin to the range a bit more lately in an attempt to get my driver goin before golf trip next weekend. And it has come a long ways from where it was most of this year (it killed me this season). My irons on the other hand have been pretty good. However, at the range these last few times if I pick up an iron...I swear I will shank at least 75-80% of the balls I hit. The type of shank is a weird very harsh slice. Where it just starts right and continues curling that way, very short distance...almost like it went off the toe or the face is wide open at impact, cant figure out which. Last weekend, some buddies and I went to the range, and this happened every shot with my 7i which i usually love. So i put it away and just worked on my driver. We decided to go golf right after, and my first iron shot on the course was absolutely fine. And all subsequent iron shots were fine too. I mean they werent like throwin darts at the stick, but they were struck well enough to be ok or better. I know at this point the range thing has to be purely mental, but its not allowing me to work on the damn things at all there because I cant even just hit one. No matter how hard or soft I swing lol. I really don't even know what to try to knock it out of me because it seems like everything I try or w/e I say to myself doesnt work. Whats odd as well is, earlier in the year I could hit my irons real well at the range, but hit nasty duck hooks over and over with the driver. Why can't it all just work at the SAME TIME! lol. Ever deal with this?!
  2. When i was in college 12 years ago I use to play with a callaway steel head driver with steel shaft. I never really hit the bal with steel shaft as far as i do my r9 taylormade with graphite shaft but i did hit it much straigther then i do this current driver. Seems like even with stiff shaft as hard as my swing is it still bends alot on me and seems like when bends to much i am getting a open face on my club causing me to slice.. Now i know graphite shaft having that whip to it helps gain distance but now with the heads being more advanced then 12 years ago could i still get a good distance putting a steel shaft on my driver.. I want to say i am probably getting another 40 to 50 yards now then i did 12 years ago. I would rather be straighter then longer but i dont want to lose alot of distance by doing it.. Any Advice appreciatted
  3. Topspin drives

For a long time now I have had comments to the effect of "boy I thought that was a way longer drive" It has confused and disappointed me forever because some were and I pretty much just accepted the fact that I just wasn't a consistent long driver. The thing that has haunted me is with my 3 and 5 woods I just walk up make the necessary adjustments for lie and smash them, the 3 I reckon often longer than driver. I have been playing with a 6 handicapper lately and he picked up on the fact that with driver I come in steep and out l i kewise possibly causing a topspin to drop the ball early. The light came on that the only real difference between fairway and drive is the angle of attack and the tee. So... if I was to put a tee in the ground front and rear of the ball and try to nick them in the swing, how much either side would I be aiming to flatten out ?
