  1. Usually play a better ball match or, as you would call it on your side of the pond, four-ball. Bets on the front, back and total.
  2. My GHIN app shows a re-wind of 2022, showing my index went from 11.6 to 13.6. I am going to completely reverse that in 2023.
  3. First 18 in 2023 for this 70 year-old guy. 43-43-86 Two disappointing three putts but generally happy with the way I hit the ball. Had one OB but only made a double bogey on a very difficult hole.
  4. I am looking forward to this. I have been watching Break Point, the one they did on the 2022 tennis season, and it is pretty good.
  5. I am the opposite. I do everything lefthanded except golf, swing a baseball bat and play hockey. Because, when i was very young, before I ever had a baseball bat in my hand, my Dad cut down a few of his clubs for us to hit in the back yard and he was righthanded. It just became normal. But I can't throw a baseball 50 feet righthanded.
  6. Last round of 2022 in 55 degree weather in Philly and the ponds were still frozen. You can see four balls on the surface. One of the guys I played with hit a poor shot that bounced off the pond onto the green about 10 feet from the pin. It would have been a better story if he made the birdie.
  7. A fella by the name of Scott Stallings was sent an invitation to play in this year’s Masters. He was the wrong Scott Stallings and he tried to contact the correct Scott Stallings and send him the invitation. Now, I would certainly try to correct the situation but I also would not send back the invitation. That’s a keeper. It would be framed and hanging on a wall in my home. Or maybe just show up?
  8. 41-41-82 in my last round of 2022. It was fun.
  9. I was looking forward to this because the original Knives Out was so good. Cast is great so I expected more but disappointed in this one. Three putt.
  10. I belong to a Club, and I always tip my teaching pro and I have tipped the equipment guys as well when I get fitted. Just from habit, I would probably tip a guy who was showing me clubs and checking out my swing in a hitting bay at a golf store, but that's me.
  11. Who says he is overrated? Never really heard that.
  12. First ball, regular par-70-ish course, on a par three - That is obviously a hole-in-one. Mulligan on the above - Of course not. Hole in one on a regular course where you don't play all 18 holes (or even nine holes) - Somebody came off the range and played two holes near the range, the last of which was a par 3. He dunked it and claimed a hole-in-one. To him, he can claim it I guess, but we have a club rule where it has to be at least nine holes to be officially noted by the club. I helped write the rule, so I guess that tells you where I stand. Playing temporary par-three tees on a par-four or -five hole due to construction/maintenance - Why not? Go for it. Par three course, > 100 yards - Yes. It's a real golf hole. Par three course, < 100 yards - Yes. It's a real golf hole. Par three, regular course, < 100 yards - Yes. It's a real golf hole. Par three, regular course, < 75 yards - Yes. It's a real golf hole. Simulator par three - No. It's not a real golf hole.
  13. 46-47-93 on a damp cold day in Philly yesterday. Damp and cold don't work too well with my 70-year-old body and that was probably my last 18 holes in 2022. I have some soul searching to do in order the live with the fact that I don't hit it very far anymore and be OK with that. On the holes where I played to my strengths and laid up to spots where I could go at the green with my gap wedge, I had way more opportunities at par. On the holes where I took some risk to go for it with longer clubs, I brought double bogey into the mix. I really only had two legit looks at the green on par 4's but I took more shots at it than that.

  15. LIV says they are trying to increase viewership by expanding viewership to other demographics. But PGA Tour viewership demographics are people who decidedly spend a lot of money. That won't change and that is why the TV contracts are so massive. I would guess that a lot of the PGA Tour demographics don't even know how to find Youtube. 😎
  16. I am a senior player and my longest iron was a 6 until recently. I had a 4 and 5 Titleist hybrid and a 3 and 5 Titleist wood. I need the longer clubs due to my general lack of length off the tee and hit them often. But I recently swapped out the 5 hybrid for a 5 iron because it turns out I needed it for low punch shots. The 6 would get too high and the hybrids are not good for low punch shots. It was a good move scoring wise. And it turns out that I don't hit a bad full shot 5 iron. 😎
  17. My brother, who is 71 years old and a 7-handicap player, was lucky enough to play Augusta back in February. He said that from tee to green, it isn't really all that hard compared to many other places he has played (he has played most of the top 20 courses in America). He says the difficulty is the greens and the green complexes. Even when you hit the greens, avoiding a three putt is a challenge. He said it is the hardest putting golf course he has ever played, so take that into consideration when you do your calculations for this exercise.
  18. Played in an outing at a very good golf course (Par 71; 72.1 rating: 133 slope). Shotgun. The first hole we played was a 165 yard par 3 with a water hazard in front of the green. I skulled my first swing of the day into the pond and made double. But I drove the ball great and was on or around most greens. Shot 80, which was a bit disappointing in that I haven't broken 80 in three years and it was one of my goals this season. Had a 40 foot birdie putt on the last hole and left it a click short. Second 80 of the season. Still time left.
  19. The sansa-belt pants and the buttoned shirt pocket reminds me of my Dad. He wore that same outfit to the links many times. Hell, it wore it everywhere when he wasn't working.
  20. When I got married I was already into golf and a member of a club. My wife is into dogs (golden retrievers, to be exact) and spends a lot of time (and money) on that pursuit, so we decided to allow each other the space and time to do those things. She has tried golf off and on and is actually very good at it, the shortcomings being around the greens, but she refuses to take short game lessons in order to score better. I want her to play more because then I could play more (with her) but I have given up trying to get her to take it on as a competitive thing. We could be a formidable couple in mixed events, but she doesn't even want to get a handicap. On the other side of it, I like her dogs but probably wouldn't have one (or more) on my own and I pretty much stay out of that world.
  21. Two down on the front after six holes. Seven is the #1 handicap hole, 420 yards uphill, and tough for me due to my lack of length. I had 210 left with a bunker on the left that required around 180 to carry, and another greenside on the right, but there is a slight opening where I could run something up. I usually lay up short of the left bunker in this circumstance and rely on my short game, but I had to take the chance. I aimed at the right edge of the left bunker and hit a solid, cut three wood. It landed parallel to the left bunker and scampered up onto the green and right at the pin. I had a 15 footer and made par, as did my opponent, but I was getting a shot and won the hole. Ended up halving the front with a birdie on the short ninth.
  22. Stay fit everyone. I had a surgical procedure a while back and I couldn't believe how much my fitness deteriorated until I could get back to working out. Scary, particular for someone my age. But I'M BACK!😃
  23. Cameron Tringale's letter should be evidence exhibit #1 in defense of the PGA Tour whenever the LIV suit gets to court. The Tour MADE all of those guys, and they know it.
  24. I did not know until now that he is not in the Golf Hall of Fame. He had quite the career when you think of his playing, announcing and designing golf courses.
  25. 42-48-90 It was my first 18 since a minor surgery a few weeks ago. Got off to a good start and was only 2 over after 7, but I had no stamina. I should have taken a cart.
