  1. My feeling is that it is unlikely that Mizuno will replace the shaft for free if the model of iron you're using is out of production. Iron shafts are (relatively) cheap to replace, so i dont think its that big of a deal. It will probably cost you less than $50, depending on the shaft.
  2. A more interesting hypothetical is what if tiger had not gone through all of this personal mess this year and was just having a horrible season? (by his standards) How would the discussion with the Ryder cup be framed, then?
  3. I know a guy like that, too. The dude doesn't even use a golf bag, he walks and carries his clubs in his hands. Probably plays a round of golf in under 3 hours. He is half way decent though, probably a mid 80s shooter.
  4. Alot of the courses around here got burnt out by the dramatic Rain/Heat spells we had a few weeks ago. It would rain really hard for a few hours or maybe a half day. Then then 90+ degree sun and heat would come back out and cook the grass in the water like it was soup. Even the better kept country clubs have had alot of their fairways and greens burn out.
  5. The way he is playing right now, no. You couldn't even add him just for his putter. Pavin is in a no-win situation im afraid. The Euro team will be very strong, and a loss by the US is probable. But if he adds tiger and they lose, he will get hammered. If he does not add tiger and they lose, pavin will still get hammered.
  6. Tiger was just turrible
  7. I can believe that. Im between 270-280 off the tee and a rarely see anyone blast it by me. Unless its this dude tommy i know, who hits his freakin 3 wood that far...
  8. It helps some, but i don't think its critical.
  9. unless you're consistent enough to hit a 100 yard shot inside 15 feet 8 out of 10 times, it really doesn't matter what type of ball you use. Unless its a complete rock or something you should be ok with anything you find out there. I didn't start actually buying premium balls until i was a 6 or 7 handicap.
  10. I dont think there is a better or worse way to grip your putter as long as it works for you. I use a standard reverse overlap. I also chip with this grip.
  11. The AP2's are the best overall iron out there for 0-10 handicaps, IMO. the 09 model could probably be had for around $600 brand new. But there are many options out there. Wilson staff pi5 irons are very good budget players irons if you can find them, and so are the s57's. As others have mentioned.
  12. Yes...thats right...heheheheheh
  13. As long as you can overcome the shame, you should try it. It really conditions you for scoring.
  14. I shot -5 from the ladies tees once.. Only 180 yard second shot into a par 5? It felt like i was on tour! lol
  15. Thats what the chart says, anyway. I look pretty healthy. I think im supposed to be around 183 or something.
  16. Id say leave them about 12 hours, or overnight, and both should be good. New grips are probably good to go in a few hours, but i usually let them dry overnight, just to be sure.
  17. And? Mickleson hasn't fared much better, and nobody is doubting his career right now. He is being talked about being the new #1 despite only playing 3 or 4 good tournaments all season.
  18. His swing doesn't look bad. He misses when his tempo gets too fast. Just like most of us.
  19. Its not looking good right now, but lets not have a bunch of knee jerk reactions based on one bad round. What if he goes out and shoots 66 today?
  20. Rangers and marine recon are not really special forces, they're highly trained infantry. If you're talking about tactical special forces, then there really isn't a difference. They are all equally effective. In reality, very few operators of what we stereotype as "special forces" use weapons. They're mostly mostly special rescue (whom might be armed) sci-ops and intelligence, from my experience in the army.
  21. Those guys are my heros.
  22. I dont imagine that they use the same ball more than 3 or 4 holes in a row. Why would they? I saw and interview with ernie els once saying that he replaces the ball after every birdie. He doesn't think they have more than one in them. I tend to swap in a fresh ball after every 27 holes or so if i dont scuff them.
  23. Ive never seen a "sloppy" drunk guy at a golf course. Not even during an outing..
  24. It depends on the person, i suppose. I have had lessons from when i first began, so i don't know any better. But i was lucky enough to have an instructor who mostly taught me how to play the game instead of beating swing mechanics into my head. Thats no way to learn the game and causes many new golfers get turned off to it, IMO. The best player i've ever played with was completely self taught. The dude is sort of oddball - he makes a living repairing commercial farm equipment, has never kept a handicap, never plays in tourneys, and always plays in shorts and tennis shoes (regardless of weather) I think he only plays like 10-15 times a year, but he shoots 3 or 4 under in his sleep. Ive played with him at least 5 times and i've never seen him shoot higher than 75. Total natural.
  25. I feast on dudes like that. They're usually wannabe's that are all bark and no bite to begin with. I don't look like much of a golfer, and that seems to fuel them even more. I usually sandbag a little in a money match, just to keep some repeat customers, but i make it a point to embarrass arrogant dicks like the one you mentioned. The most vivid one i remember was some douchebag that challenged me after a scramble i played in. My team won, shooting 58, and i also won closest to the pin. The guy comes up to us and me in particular and says we cheated and there is no way we could have shot that score. I was peeved, and i literally told me to put your money where your mouth is or get the f*ck out of my face. He agreed to a $50 nassau match with $10 birdies. I came back to the course 3 days later and put a 3-way beat down on this douchebag. And i make 3 birdies to boot to walk away with a cool $170. I don't even think he broke 90. I didn't shake his hand after the match, he didn't deserve the respect.
