  1. 41. I started playing golf in grad school, 15 years ago or so,
  2. A couple others are Golfsmith.com and DiamondTourGolf.com. Google for "golf components" and you can find a bunch of them. I've ordered clubs from Diamond Tour and hadn't had any problems. I don't make clubs, but you can tell them what parts you want and they'll assemble them for 5 bucks per club (or something like that).
  3. Has there ever been a better clutch putter than Tiger? Don't think so.
  4. I guess I'm on the other end of the spectrum. My sand wedge is my bread and butter club. I do pretty much all my chipping and pitching with it.
  5. It's pretty ridiculous how much equipment can cost these days. Especially putters. Does a 300 dollar putter really make you putt better? Doesn't make much sense to me, but then I've never spent more than 80 or 90 bucks on a golf club.
  6. How about Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. IIRC there are over 100 courses in the area. So there's the whole spectrum of courses, from super expensive to more affordable.
  7. Hi. Whereabouts in Maryland are you? I'm in Bethesda, myself.
  8. I shot a 45 in our work golf league. My partner and I won our match 2 and 1. I made a couple clutch 4 footers to tie holes.
  9. I don't think so. I don't think their 3rd generation technologies are compatible, since Sprint's is based on CDMA.
  10. The next generation was announced today. It supports 3G cellular networking, has a GPS and is half the cost of the first iPhone. It'll be release July 11th. I'll be getting one then.
  11. Yani Tseng won the championship in a playoff! Taiwan in da house!
  12. Yes, you can unlock the iPhone so that it can be used with other GSM carriers. These days it's quite easy to do. Note that in the US, the only other GSM carrier is T-mobile. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA which is not compatible.
  13. People talking when I hit doesn't really bother me. On the tee box I'll hit even when others are talking. Of course I don't talk when others are hitting. The topic makes me think of Tiger. There were all the stories about his dad training him to ignore distractions. But on the tour every little thing seems bug him.
  14. I'm late to this thread, but I picked up iPhones for me and my wife opening day, and we've loved them ever since. Before I bought them my wife was not particularly excited or interested, but I knew it was going the be really cool. The user interface was just so good. Since she got one my wife has become an iPhone evangelist. I think the ease of use and ubiquitous internet with a real web browser are revolutionary. Sadly I broke my screen a couple weeks ago. Now the bottom section of the touchscreen doesn't work. Make it rather difficult to use, although not completely useless. But it's a good excuse to upgrade when the new 3G iPhone comes out.
  15. I'm a short knocker. I'd be using a 3 wood.
  16. I much prefer walking, and I can keep up with just about anybody who rides.
  17. I've got a set of Top-Flight Tour Irons with graphite shafts that I've using forever. It's been probably 15 years now. I don't really feel a need to upgrade. It might be nice if the longer irons were more forgiving, I suppose. I don't even carry the 3 iron. Is the technology in current irons that much better?
  18. I am a researcher at NIH. I do 3-d computer graphics and image processing for medical visualization.
  19. I got my twin 4 (almost 5) year olds some clubs this year. I've been taking them to the driving range since last year, and they seem to enjoy it. My boy is starting to develop a decent looking swing, especially his finishing position. I didn't really teach them anything. They just picked things up from watching me and others. I just made sure their hands were in the right order. Left hand high for my son and right for my lefty daughter. Too bad they weren't both same handedness. I could have saved a set of clubs. I haven't yet taken them on a course. It seems like it'd be better with a cart, but I walk almost all the time. Will the course people let kids ride along?
  20. I just got a TaylorMade Tour Burner, 10.5 degree with a regular shaft. So far I really like it. It's a good 20 yards longer than my previous driver, a Integra. And some of my bad shots have gone a lot further than they had any right to.
  21. No glove for me. I started playing golf as a poor grad student, so I learned to play without a glove.
  22. How does it feel when you putt them? I tend to avoid Top Flites because they feel pretty hard.
