Start the downswing by unwinding your hips, not with your thumb. Your entire left hand, not just your thumb, should moreso be pulling the club downward rather than pushing it, but the transition really begins with a simple uncoiling of the lower body, the club will follow, I promise.

How to get the most height on chips?
rubbery replied to King Cobra II's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The flop shot, but it's really a gamble and should really be used only when there's very little green to work with. -open and widen your stance, and play the ball forward off your left heel -open the clubface as much as possible -loosen your grip to promote clubhead speed -pick the club up steeply and cup your left wrist at the top -make a long swing and slide the club head under the ball, accelerating through impact The shot I would recommend is the simple pitch shot -open your stance and clubface, but keep your feet close together, this shot is all in the hands -play the ball off your left toe -hold the club lightly, pick the club up steeply, and make a short, rhythmic swing -slide the clubhead under the ball, accelerating through impact -keep the clubface aiming at the sky through impact -
Continuing to work on my swing... have a look

The only thing I noticed (other than your nice high socks and shorts combo) was that your left wrist in cupped at the top, which leads to a slice. Try and restrict your wrist and forearm movement. -
Not even close, my friend. He said he would buy Burberry pants if they were available for $85 dollars, and you took that out of context and made that (obvious) claim that Burberry doesn't make $85 dollar pants. He was saying that for $85, the pants he's buying better be a respectable brand. Your inference was completely wrong; he did not imply that Burberry made $85 dollar pants. It's like someone offering you a beat-up Ford Focus for $40,000, and you responding with, "Maybe if it were a Lamborghini I would pay that much." Obviously Lamborghini doesn't make a car for 40 grand; it's just a hyperbolic way of showing that the product isn't worth the price.

I do work out a bit, but it's for hockey not golf, and it's not that extensive. I do some weight training and cardio, focusing mainly on my legs and core. I run 5 miles every friday, ride a stationary bike for 20 minutes every other day, and do 50 squats (no weight) every other night, lots of push-ups and crunches too.

It seems like that situation could have been resolved a lot more favorably had that guy not reacted like such a dbag and just apologized. I'm sure you're right about it having something to do with the fact that you're 16 so he thought he could just scare you and get on with it. Your dad should have punched him in the ear.

These, too, will run you $85, but there not nearly as disgusting as those other pants. http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/i...entPage=family Also, Lacoste makes some nice plaid pants, similar in price to the polo ones, but again, very good looking.

Horrible Finish to a Round...How To Keep Your Cool?
rubbery replied to underparnv's topic in Golf Talk
I've been known to lose my cool as well, and the easiest fix that I've found is to take a few extra seconds and just think how easy it is to stick that little white ball next to the cup and how many times you've done it in your life, then clear you mind completely and address the ball calmly. -
Hey if it makes you feel any better, one of my friend's dads is a cardiologist/Bollywood actor, and needless to say, well-off, and during a party the son was hosting, some uninviteds showed up and stole about $5000 worth of jewelry from his mom's bedroom.

This is one of, if not the most difficult shot in golf. Even with hours of practice, I'd consider myself mediocre at this shot. My technique for a 30-50 yard explosion: With a good lie, you can use a standard sand wedge, the worse the lie gets, the more club you want to take. Open the stance slightly, and hit about an inch behind the ball. Precision is everything here. SWING HARD. I know it sounds a little ridiculous, but that's my technique. I don't go balls out, but I take a pretty good whack at the sucker. Lastly, and probably most importantly, FOLLOW THROUGH. If you cut off your follow through, you're going to be lucky enough to have the same shot again. Anything above 50 yards, and I'll hit a full 60 taking very, very little sand.

Haha, you're thinking of someone else. Roy McAvoy is Kevin Costner's character in the movie Tin Cup.

Before the Fall - The Hellacopters They're a phenomenal band; it's a shame they're not better known.

Video - What's wrong with my swing?
rubbery replied to Rojo0416's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
One thing I noticed, especially with the driver, is that you're picking the club up rather quickly, that usually gives you a one-way ticket to slicetown. Try and get the backswing wider, moving your hands as far from your head as you comfortably can. Also, your right elbow should be pointing right at the ground at the top, but yours is sort of drifting to the right, which leads to loss of power and consistency. -
Driver: Hard to tell, somedays I'll hit towering drives around the 280-295 mark, other days, I'll hit frozen ropes that roll up to about 250. 3-wood: More consistent, usually about 240 3-hybrid: 220 7-iron: 170

Here is the bunker shot page from Tiger's book "How I Play Golf." If there are any other particular pages you would like to see to gauge how helpful this book would be for her, just let me know. http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4223/tigergk4.jpg -

For a few weeks leading up to Christmas I would answer my girlfriend's calls by saying, "hey, I'm watching the Red Wings game, can I call you back after?" And sure enough, on Christmas, I was presented with two Wings tickets on the glass, but she also made me assure that I would stop ignoring her during games.

There's no question that you will benefit more from individual lessons. My advice to you would be to go down to your local driving range (if you don't belong to a country club) and get some information from the pro there about lessons. They usually run pretty cheap, the pro near me offers 10 individual lessons for $150 dollars, and will be effective for a beginner. I've only gotten one lesson in my life and it helped my game A LOT. If you're serious about getting better that's the way to go. Lastly, if you do decide to do this, you will more than likely struggle with the new swing changes, but stick to it and do your best to employ every tip he gives you and you will see improvement.

The farmer's tan doesn't bother me nearly as much as my glove tan. It's getting absolutely ridiculous. Also, I have the blessing of never having to wear sunscreen in the less-than-intimidating Michigan sun. 50+ rounds this summer and not one burn, but 1 round in Cabo, and I couldn't tell wear my pink shorts ended and my calves started.

Roy McAvoy qualified for the U.S. open by parring the back 9 after breaking everything but his 7 iron so my money's on the pro.

My last several sessions at the range have involved me working on nothing but drawing and cutting the ball. I have no problem drawing the ball or controlling the amount of draw I put on the ball, but for the life of me I cannot make that little white piece of crap turn to the right. Every time I try it's the same thing: A weak, high push about half the distance it should be going. It's horrifyingly frustrating. I do get the rare one that actually cuts a little bit, but this is something I need to start being able to do consistently. I can work it to the right with my driver and 3-wood, but that's easy, and more often than not, accidental. I need to be able to do it with my irons. Please help me cut the ball.

delofting irons vs. grip pressure
rubbery replied to catfell's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Absolutely. Relax with the club, and don't choke it. Looser muscle travel faster than tense ones. Loosen your grip, ease the tension in your muscles, and you'll start hitting the ball farther with every club. You want to hold the club like a bird; firm enough to hold onto it, but loose enough not to hurt it. -
Most you've ever paid for a round: $100; Lochmoor GC, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, my dad once paid $350 to compete in his company golf outing, but couldn't go so I took his place. Least you've ever paid for a round (other than "free"): $10; Fern Hill CC, Clinton Twp, MI Best course you've ever played: Cabo Del Sol (Ocean Course), Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. A Nicklaus design with some absolutely stunning holes, you'll see I spent a little too much time looking at the Pacific than hitting golf shots. Worst course you've ever played: Fern Hill CC Most underrated course: Bay Pointe GC, West Bloomfield, MI Most overrated course: Lochmoor GC Lowest round: 75 (+5); Sunnybrook Golf & Bowl, Sterling Heights, MI (Yes, it's as easy as it sounds) Highest round: 116 (twice); Westwynd GC, Oakland, MI & Cabo Del Sol Ocean Course Career holes-in-one: Zero. Most exciting moment on a golf course: Stiffing a PW from about 135 to about 18 inches in districts with about 100 people watching. Also, convincing an extremely inebriated middle-aged man that I was on the PGA Tour and watching him swerve his cart over to his friends to tell them he'd just met a professional golfer. Lying is fun. Most heartbreaking moment on a golf course: Double Bogeying 18th hole in regionals to miss advancing to states as an individual by 2 strokes. Most harrowing moment on a golf course: Blocking 5 consecutive shots OB on the third hole of my first ever high school match and proceeding to record a hole score of +11 16 and a 9-hole score of +25 61. Most balls lost during a round: 9, Cabo Del Sol Ocean Course (above) Most holes played in one day: 27 Fewest number of putts in an 18-hole round: 24 Most number of putts in an 18-hole round: Not sure, but I've probably never gone higher than 40 or 41. Longest putt ever made: Roughly 45 feet Most putts ever on a single hole: 5 Weirdest thing ever seen on a golf course: My friend driving a 330 yard green, the group in front of us picking the ball up off the green, then proceeding to refuse to let my friend see the ball that we witnessed them pick up.

For the simple reason that the 9 degree loft of your driver doesn't impart nearly as much backspin as the 22 or whatever degree loft of your hybrid, thus leaving more room for sidespin, which causes the ball to hook/slice. It's the same reason why a 5 iron will hook/slice more than a 9 iron, despite striking the ball with an identical swing.
