  1. I just started last Thanksgiving thanks to my bother that works at Redstone there in Huntsville. Haven't played any courses there just a 18 hole par 3 course in Arab, AL where my bother lives. I really enjoyed it and bought a starter pack and played a couple of times around here.
  2. Read about this challenge last week never thought I would accomplish it. My goal this year was to either break 40 or 80. I walk 9 holes most mornings and hardly ever play 18 except when I get to play on Saturday's. Well today I played 9 holes at another course, We got finished around 11:30 and thought I don't have a lot going on at the office I may grab a hamburger and go to my course and play 9. Well I shot a 40 on the front 9 (record for me and no sixes!) So I just had to play the back 9. I shot 38!!! Broke 80 for the first time and finished with no sixes!! I almost screwed up 18, hit a decent drive but topped and pulled my second shot. 3rd shot came just left of the green and had to chip on the green and landed about 7; from the hole. Sunk the putt for bogey 5!! I am so excited to accomplish both of these goals today. I have been play 3 1/2 years and still have a long way to go! But so stroked about my round today. Here is my game golf of the round http://www.gamegolf.com/player/randyrives/round/2224539
  3. Sorry I don't have a swing thread. I just never seem to take the time to make one.
  4. Question? I have been playing golf around 2.5 years. For the most part I hit my driver around 190-220. According to GameGolf my average/typical drive is/was 199. For the past week and a half my longest drive might be 190. Typlical 175-180 (vs 190-220) I don't feel like I am doing anything different, but I am getting a little more slice (usually fairly stright or slight fade) But even when there is no slice my drive is only 185 while it felt like a 220 drive. Any thoughts on why this is happening?
  5. Like being able to check round on course. We have a couple of holes where the tee boxes are very close and the GPS sometimes gets the drives posted to the wrong hole. Like also being able to add penalty shot while on course. Also like having the round upload from phone ready to review when I get to my computer, though last round got lost, talked to support and they could not see what happen. Anyone else have an issue uploading from phone. I think somehow the device corrupted the file and upload failed. As when I tried to upload from device to computer it also failed with bad data error.
  6. Odessy White Hot Pro putter A new pair of Footjoy Shoes And a few golf shirts
  7. Got a set of these at our Church Christmas party (Dirty Santa) went out the next day and shot 88 which was my best round to date. While I wouldn't have bought these I can't say they were that bad for a beginner golfer like me.
  8. Here in Mississippi able to play often in winter. End of December is a slow time for my work and was looking forward to playing several times. Temp in upper 60's. Only issue rain everyday for the next week big time bummed out
  9. 1. I have just finished my first year in golf and my goal was to break 100. I have achieved that, I would like to be breaking 80, though that might not happen as I am 52 years old and distance is not a strong point. My goal this year is to shoot in the 80's. I have achieved 2 rounds in my last four in the 80's and the other 2 was 90 and 92. I am getting there. 2. When I get satisfied is most likely when I stop playing (or play not as much). In my younger days I aspired to be a professional bowler, qualified to get my PBA card, but lack support from my family so I never did, but I gave up bowling as it was not challenging enough for me in the amateur world. So if golf ever became that way I would most likely give it up also. Although I do walk mostly when I play for the exercise so I might keep it up for health reasons. 3. This year I played and practiced nearly everyday (weather permitting) and plan on keeping it up this year also. I am at the course first thing in the mornings and walk 9. Some days if my schedule allows it I will play 18.
  10. OK I have a lot to improve on. http://www.gamegolf.com/player/randyrives/insights/share/b8618b2fd6
  11. Don't have a swing thread. Something I will ad after work slows down next month
  12. Agreed. I am 52 and currently average around 190. Any tips on getting more length?
  13. Well shot my best round this morning. Hit the ball fairly well still duffed a few shots, and my putting was ok but could be better (missed alot of 10-12' putts by lipping out) Distance and aim still needs much work but was better. Here is my GameGolf for anyone interested in checking it out: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/randyrives/round/657566
  14. I have been playing golf for 1 year now. My goal for the 1st year was to get my average score below 100. I am happy to say I have done that. Now my goal for this year is to get my scores below 90, so I will be reading and following this thread.
  15. Well I have been playing for 1 year now. My goal for the year was to shoot below 100 on average. I broke 100 for the first time several months ago, but still shot on average 102-105. Well I finally have been averaging below 100. My GameGolf average score is now below 100!! The goal for this year is now to get that down below 90. My driving is still inconsistent. But my largest issue is my approach shot, I still mishit by second shot way to much. My iron play needs lots of improvement including distance and aim. Thanks to all the post and helpful tips from this thread!
  16. After getting rained out for our afternoon round, played my local course for 9 holes. Shot a 45 which is good for me, but should have been better. Made my 1st eagle on #3 which is a short par 4 (286 yards) hit a bad drive and was under the pine trees on a bed of pine needles. About 140 yards out, hit a 5 iron to keep it low and rolled up on the green and in the hole. Better to be lucky than good. :) Here is my game golf for the round: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/randyrives/round/546323
  17. Congrats on everyone that has broke 100, since I have posted/read this thread. My goal was to break 100 before I have played for 1 year. This weekend will make 10 months of playing. I have broke 100 several times with my lowest round back several months ago with an 89. Last time I played 18 I shout 97. I try and walk 9 holes every morning (M-F) and occasionally play 18 on the weekend. I seem to be stuck in 48-53 range. I would like to consistently shoot less than 50/100 before the next 2 months ( 1 year of playing). Just wanted to thank everyone for their advise from this thread as it has help me get as far as I have.

    Playing Alone

I like playing with others, but often play alone. I find I score better as when I play with others I tend to try to hard. Being an 51 year old rookie (been playing just under 8 months) playing alone is great so I can work on things and take my time. I try and walk 9 holes every morning (Mon-Friday) weather permitting. I get to the course around 6:30am before anyone gets there and it is peaceful and great way to start out my day.
  19. Well after my 89, last weekend I shot a 102. This week has been a mixed bag, somedays hit the driver well, others chipped well (irons never good). But I have managed to keep my 9 holes under 50 all week. I alternate playing the front and back nine each morning. Monday - 47 Tuesday - 49 Wednesday - 49 Thursday - 46 Friday - 48 So I think I am getting to the point were I can break a hundred but not being able to play 18 on a single day I just don't know. Maybe next week I can find time to play a full round.
  20. I want outrageous speed with a Callaway XR Driver Jordan Speith -9 Rory McIIory -9 Bubba Watson -9
