  1. Okay, so i went to get fitted today at a driving range. Previously i went to get fitted in a store and was not satisfied. I'm even more confused now What i've come to the conclusion is fitting is almost useless because you are essentially altering the equipment according to your swing, be it a swing full of errors or not. So if i go in an swing incorrectly generating a slice EVERY time with standard clubs, all they would have to do is make it more upright. After receiving upright clubs wouldn't this encourage the swing errors and maybe even amplify them? Besides that, I was told by the store that I should get +.5 inch length and 1 degree upright. Problem is, he made the conclusion that i was 1 degree upright, and then after my comment about how i felt that my clubs were too short, he then said that i should also add half an inch. I went to the driving range to get fitted and they said i just need 1 degree upright. So i'm thinking if i lengthen the club by a half inch, i should be able to use standard lie right? and if i increase to upright 1 degree, I should be able to use standard lenght right? THis is extremely confusing and i just want to be able to get the clubs that will improve and encourage good swinging the most. Personally, I really want to get these clubs (Mizuno mp 57's) so i've decided to stick with standard lenght and 1 degree upright so that I can maintain control over my irons instead of increasing the length which may give me more distance but less control.. anyone else as confused about fitting as I am? or are these adjustments that they make to these clubs so minute that they really don't encourage bad habits and i'm just being paranoid? Thanks for the input
  2. I saw on another thread that someone was able to demo clubs over at Golf Smith without a demo day so I think i'm going to head over there to try the Mizuno MP 57's and the TM R7 TP. After I posted my original question, I realized what I was really trying to ask: A club isn't going to cure your shot in an extremely noticeable way right? If you hit a slice, it's going to slice regardless of what you use correct? In other words, if you suck at golf, will there be a huge difference in how much you suck if you use a lower end "player's" iron like the mp 57's or TM r7 tp's or let's say the regular r7's? reason why I ask is my because my clubs are probably 20 years old and i have never tried using any GI iron whatsoever. Thanks for the input.
  3. Hi Everyone, I have been fervently reading these forums looking for input and advice about equipment, however I do not feel that my question has been directly addressed nor discussed in any other thread. Four weeks ago was the first time that I picked up golf clubs for six years. I just started a new job and my colleagues invited me to play so I grabbed some really old clubs that I have (Ping EEE3ZZZ Irons, probably older than I am) and headed to the course. This re-sparked my interest in golf as I used to go the range quite frequently between the ages of 16-19.would I am now looking to purchase a new set of irons and have been eyeing the Callaway x20's but am really leaning towards the TM R7's. For some reason I have an urge to buy the tour or players versions of these clubs and I was wondering what people's thoughts are on this. I shot about a 100 that day when I went to the course and I have been going to the range for about 8-9 hours a week since then. From what I have read it sounds like GI clubs can possibly make one unmotivated to push themselves to improve. Also, I checked the "Maltby Playability Index" and it seems like the tour version of the TM R7's is not as "difficult" to play as some other player's irons out there. Will I be wasting a bunch of money if I get the tour version of the TM R7's? Are tour irons impossible to implement to improve one's game? Also, I have been looking around for demo days in the NYC area and have not been able to find ANY as it makes the most sense to hit with the clubs first right? Does anyone have any suggestions around this slight dilemma. I do not wish to continue playing with the Ping EEE3ZZZ irons I have because they were hand me downs from my uncle who is significantly shorter than I am, and I can feel that the clubs are too short and the grips have been tearing my hands to shreds.. plus I am blessed enough to have the money to get a new set of irons. Please help. Thanks
  4. I am currently looking for a new set of irons. I played a bit during my younger years and have just picked up golf again after playing with some coworkers. I would say that my handicap is about a 25. Based on reviews i have narrowed my search down between the x20's and r7's. My question is, is it a horrible idea for someone of my experience level to get the tour level irons for the x20's or r7's and use them as a motivation to play better and to improve swing? Should I stick with the GI versions or would it be okay for someone who spends 3hrs a session, 3sessions a week at the driving range to pick up tour irons and use them to improve his game?
  5. I haven't seen Jack Nicklaus play, so i will have to go with Tiger as my pick.
  6. Mine is www.harborlinks.com
  7. Tiger is the best player that I have witnessed play in my day in age
  8. I am an analyst at a hedge fund and I probably spend way too much time reading this forum while at work
