  1. I agree with Big M, Golf World is good for profiles, tournament coverage, equipment, etc... No instruction articles... Plus it's a (mostly) weekly publication.
  2. I think Pebble Beach is worth it... Visited there 10 years ago, at the time couldn't afford to play Pebble, played Pacific Grove instead... Promised myself that I would earn/save enough to go back and actually play Pebble... Fortunate to be able to take my dad to Pebble two years ago... Walking up 18 at Pebble with my dad is something I'll always cherish.
  3. LOL! Agreed... I admire Ben Hogan for his golf swing and accomplishments, but in many ways I'm glad that I never met him in person... I remember meeting a few sports figures that I admired as a kid and a couple of them were horseasses... Never looked at them the same way after that

    next level?

I played two years of college golf at a D1 school, at the time the golf program wasn't exactly in peak form (which is most likely the reason I had a chance to play as a walk-on )... Back then if you could shoot 300 for four rounds you qualified for the team... I would think that these days you would need a handicap of 3 or better to have a shot at making the team... Just my two cents
  5. Enjoy your round... we don't get much snow in Texas and have had three days of it in the past few weeks, put a damper on holiday season golf outings...
  6. if only they could get the ice outdoors in FL lol I was thinking the same thing for Texas!
  7. good points about being there in person, but I think it would be cool to be able to say you attended and got to experience a hockey game at Fenway Park Contrived or not I'll be watching
  8. try using froogle.com, should give you some assistance with finding the best prices
  9. Flyers and Bruins this year... both teams wearing throwbacks... Last year was really cool with Wings and Hawks, two years ago Sabres and Penguins, still have that game recorded I need to check on one in Canada, the first one they did in Canada with the Oilers and Habs was awesome...
  10. Anybody going to Fenway to watch the game in person? Wish I could, I'll be watching the game on TV... Last year's game at Wrigley was really cool.
  11. Watched the Stars and Hawks tonight, very entertaining game... Stars got lucky on a couple of goals and won 5-4, they need some good bounces... Hawks are solid though, Toews, Kane, Sharp, Seabrook, et al... Strong team, expect them to make a serious run for the Cup
  12. Got a new table top hockey game... the rod hockey type... girlfriend got it for me... she heard me mention how much fun I used to have as a kid playing it and ordered one online... really cool... I told her two boys that there was no way they could beat me at that game... they decided they would play as a team and I would play against them... beat them 9-1 ... the look on their faces was priceless, like, how did this old guy beat us at this game?... I just told them this was what we did before video games... they want a rematch They would wipe the floor with me if we played a video game
  13. nice score! all about the timing
  14. I am extremely happy that The Hammer is being advertised on Golf Channel... It created what has to be the funniest forum ever... I have literally been laughing out loud reading these posts... So, Jack Hamm, thanks for the inspiration... POW!!!
  15. Inga is a very pretty lady... I'm glad they got rid of that root that hosted Golf Central a couple of years ago... Don't remember her name but she wasn't in the same league as Lauren Thompson
  16. FWIW I purchased several pairs of Nike Air Zooms, very comfortable... Walked 7 rounds in six days in Scotland this past summer, no problems with the shoes
  17. She hosts another show on GC called Destination Golf or somesuch... She's on camera much more than Top 10... Saw an episode where she visited Ireland... The GC execs must have a pretty good idea that she attracts viewers... Count me in
  18. Sharks have a great team, I'm not a fan but they are solid... Their past few years playoff performances will be something they will have to mentally overcome... Thornton is an outstanding player... they have the physical talent to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals that's for sure... I agree, Chicago looks tough. My Dallas Stars, not so much.
  19. Wasn't a specific "golf" trip but I went to Monterey several years ago with an old girlfriend... She didn't play golf so she went shopping and I went as a single to San Juan Oaks in Hollister and got paired with a twosome and another single, had a great time... Next day went to Poppy Hills as a single first thing in the morning and got paired with one of the assistants... Fun round, having an assistant pro give local course advice was great... I say go and have a good time
  20. Got two dozen ProV1x's and a Gift Card to Edwin Watts. Best part of the day was surprising my dad with a trip to The Masters Wednesday practice round, he is fired up to see Augusta National in person.
  21. That is really, really cool! What a great gift! Merry Christmas!
  22. I admire Ben Hogan because he started from extremely humble beginnings in Fort Worth, worked his tail off to become a major champion... after his car was hit head on by a bus in West Texas in '49 and he nearly died, he was told he would never walk again much less play golf again... Then he worked his tail off and won the '50 U.S. Open at Merion... And the next year won the U.S. Open again... In '53 he won The Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship... All on legs that were so badly injured he had to wrap them in bandages from crotch to foot to keep them from swelling... He started his own golf club company that built, in many people's opinion, the best forged irons ever... Those are just a few reasons I admire Ben Hogan... I've had people who knew him tell me he was a great guy, I had other people, including my uncle, who knew him and said he was an ass... Doesn't matter to me what his personal relationships were like, I admire his golf swing and his golf career.
  23. That's a good hobby
  24. That is awesome, good stuff! Sounds like a great price too for that level of golf courses... I've been wanting to go to Bandon since I read Dream Golf... Yes, please post some pics!
