  1. I agree, that is a good way to practice and try to iron out the issues (is that a pun?) Anyway, another tip I read in Golf Digest - this one is from Zach Johnson - is to try not to focus on a spot on the ball, but almost let the ball blur somewhat in your vision and then just hit the ball. In the past I was trying to hit the back of the ball and I would focus on it so much that I would really chunk a lot of shots... So for tee shots try to set the ball on the tee so that all white is visible, do not have the logo or marking showing... And from the fairway try to ignore any markings you can see on the ball and "blur" it... I still do not hit my shots perfectly crisp, but I do not chunk them as badly anymore, so it is a useful tip... And off the tee I have seen an even better improvement...
  2. I am using http://www.myscorecard.com/ It was recommended by someone here, and I really like it. It is a subscription service but is very cheap, $9.95/year, less if you sign up for longer. I paid about $25 for a 3 year subscription...

  4. I know how you feel, I am going through the exact same thing right now, my driver has never been better but my irons are hurting a bit to say the least...
  5. A friend of mine has them (Nike NDS irons) and he loves them...
  6. Yes, a proper fitting session with a club fitter should give you shaft options... stiffness, kick point, length, weight etc...
  7. I think it is just fine, he is very muscular but certainly not too muscular... I can't imagine he will add much more size in the next few years but I bet he stays around his present weight and maintains his current body fat level...
  8. I thought I had read somewhere that he is quite strong and can bench press 300lbs + or something like that... Personally I think he has one the best, most athletic physique in sports...
  9. Holy crap Tiger was looking buff on Sunday! Not that I am saying I was checking him out or anything... Not that there is anything wrong with that... Anyway, just wondering, has anyone ever read about his training regiment? I would love to see what he does to keep in shape...
  10. It is funny because we have a lot of short Par 4's on my course. One is measured at 278 and I have been on the green or in the bunker to the left many times off the tee. We have another that is measured around 287 and it is downhill the whole way and I have never hit the green... I have been maybe 10 - 15 yards short a few times so either that one is really way longer than it says or the other are way shorter... not sure...
  11. I think a lot of it has to do with the poor yardage markings on a lot of public courses. I have always been an average hitter as far as distance goes but in the last few years I have added a bit of distance to my drives. On one hole in particular on my home course I have driven it inside the 100 yard marker quite a few times this year. The hole is measured at 380 from the tees we play so I am getting it to 280 - 300 yards or so According to those markings... It would be awesome to have a more accurate measurement but for now that is all I have to go by so I guess I can hit it 300 yards
  12. Thanks, I should have guessed when their website comes up as "parked" page full of ads...
  13. What's worse than the commentary is the idiots who always yell "Get in the hole!" as loud as they can every time Tiger hits a shot... That is just foolish... I also really get tired of seeing only Tiger and Phil's shots all day, there are other golfers playing the event you know...
  14. Oh man, a long putter?!? I could never use a long putter... I love the new commercials where all of the golf folks are in a conference room (it is for some hotel) and they are talking about the belly putter and Frost says there should be a rule that you have to have a belly to use the belly putter! I agree!!
  15. The struggle continues! 41 putts yesterday It is a real mental block right now, I need to really get it together... I am thinking about buying a new putter (I know that isn't a magic cure, but I am just using a cheap Top-Flite putter anyway...)
  16. A local sporting goods store has the MAC Ion Putter for $39.99... But, when I searched for this type of putter the first site that comes up has them for $169.99... Here is a link: http://www.golfstockpile.com/index.a...OD&ProdID;=2495 I am probably going to get a new putter this Summer and I plan on trying out quite a few, this just caught my eye because the price difference is pretty crazy... So would this be a high quality putter? Here is the link to the "cheaper" one: http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do...&styleId;=28118 Thanks!
  17. I was seriously thinking about changing my driver earlier this year because I was losing a ton of strokes due to poor tee shots. I stuck with it and worked on my swing at the range and I am now hitting my driver better than ever. I think you should really take a look at your swing first and try to work it out, a new driver is not a magic cure for mistakes in your swing... It is quite possible that you don't have the perfect shaft or driver and a trip to a golf store that has a launch monitor might be useful, but if you are not swinging properly then you are not going to get the most out of the money you spend on the new club... One thing I really noticed early on was that I was way past parallel on my back swing and this was making it very hard to square the club face at impact. I slowed my tempo a bit and stopped my back swing at parallel and started hitting the ball very straight. At first I lost a fair bit of distance but after many trips to the range I am now able to stop at parallel and still generate good club head speed because I can accelerate the club through the ball and strike it with a square club face... And I have also learned how to properly shift my weight throughout the swing, I think this is the biggest improvement and has added a lot of distance to my drives... I have never been happier with my driver... Now if I could only putt Hope this helps... Good Luck!
  18. I like this advice!
  19. Thanks, that does help me out, I know that shaving off 5-6 putts per round will make my scoring way better, obviously... Right now I really want to get into sub 36 putts per round, so my goal for this Summer will be saving around 3 putts per round to get to an avg. of 35 or so... I think that is realistic...
  20. Oh yes, I know I need to improve my putting for sure, I was just wondering what numbers others, especially others around the same handicap as me, shoot... I am really working on accelerating the utter through the ball on my putts because I tend to leave them short, nothing worse than leaving a 15 foot birdie putt 5 feet short! My chipping is ok, not great, but not that bad really...
  21. Just how bad is that? I am now a 22 handicap, so is it my putting that is really killing me? I am just wondering what a "decent" number of putts per round is for someone in my range...
  22. So I now know for sure that this is a problem for me. I do not get my hands in front of the club head... I tend to "flick" my wrists at the ball now and I never get my hands in the proper position and I push my iron shots to the right... I am working on it and I was wondering if you (or anyone) could suggest a drill that will help? Thanks!
  23. I used to own a driver from Golfsmith, it was called the Big Gun.. Funny, it now looks like a 5 wood compared to my new 460cc driver... Anyway, it was a very high quality club and it was perfect for me for many years. I also owned "clone" irons, not from Golfsmith but from another manufacturer and they were quite good. I had a friend who was a good golfer and he used to build clubs from Golfsmith and the quality was always quite good...
  24. FYI, I decided to buy a dozen Top-Flite Strata-TL Tours today because they were on sale for half price ($12.50) so I figured that was a great deal... They feel very soft to the touch compared to my Maxfli's... I am heading out in an hour or so to play so I will decide if I like them or not after a round... One interesting thing, on the bottom of the box it says "Callaway Golf Canada LTD" so that might help alleviate some of the Top-Flite bias??
  25. I am the same as you... I have to start with a new ball and if I get a bad scuff or a "smiley" on the ball it goes into the shag bag... But I have no problem playing with the same ball for 18 holes (it rarely happens) if the ball does not get beat up too bad...
