Fml what a stupid system. Didn’t realize it was dependent on a login to work. Isn’t all data stored locally anyway? I mean just patch an update bypassing the login before you shut down the company?

So I haven’t been out to play since last week and I don’t know what’s happening? Can I still use the device? I didn’t connect it to the website but only ever used the app. Is it not working without their online support?

Shot 97 yesterday on a new course. Saying it’s tight would be an understatement. Couldn’t hit the driver on more than a couple of holes. It’s pretty short but I don’t think more than a couple of holes had landing zones wider than 50 yards. Most of them were in the 30-40 range. Some forced carries and an island 160 yard par 3. Shot 44 out and then disintegrated on 10-14 holes. Greens were slow but extremely hard, had trouble holding the green from over 150 out, which is unusual for me (when I do hit the green 🙂 ) putting was great, only had 1 3 putt for 34 putts total. So if I count the last 9 I played the last time and the first 9 this time out I shot a round 90, but still need to combine a good 18 holes to set a decent score. I feel like that I’ll get hot one day and I’ll smash 90 but then struggle to break it again.

So after that I managed to play 2 full rounds. One on the same course that I shot 104 before and I ended with 95. It's really hard to break 90 when you are 8 over after 4 holes, and that was with 1 par... That meant I only had 9 shots to give on the remaining 14 holes. I did putt exceptionally well that round again, with only 31 putts. One was from the fringe that I didn't count but it was only a foot or so on the fringe. But even with 31 putts I still had 2 3 putts for the round. I'd like to get that down to 0 and it might be possible in the future on this course, where the greens are nice but not extremely fast. I need to eliminate the blow up holes if I want to break 90. Thing is I shot 95 and I had two triple bogeys and two quadruple bogeys so that's 14 strokes on 4 holes. It's impossible to score only +3/+4 on the remaining 14 holes to finish with under 90. Yesterday I played the second day in a row on a course that has a reputation of being the fastest in the country or at least top 2 (one is a private course that I haven't played yet, due to a very high green fee). And the greens were ridiculous. Most of them are very large, most of them are not flat and multiple have many tiers, a couple of them are extreme. On some holes if you were above the hole you were either 1 or 3 putting. There was just no way you could stop the ball near the hole if you were above the hole. On two of those holes I was on the fringe in regulation or regulation +1 and I decided to chip rather than putt on both of them, just to take some of the slope out of play. But on both I failed. On the first one I chipped 1 foot below the end of the slope and the ball rolled almost back to my feet. On the second one I hit my chip about 1 yard too short and the ball took the slope and rolled 3 yards below the hole. So after starting the season quite high on my putting the first 9 holes took a lot of confidence out of me. It didn't help that some idiot yelled fore when we were putting out on a green, because he though we were too slow... I shot a 104, but that was with a horrendous 58 on the front 9 and I pulled myself together for the back 9 and finished with a 46, even though I started the back 9 with 4 double bogeys I finished the round with +10 on the back 9. I had 38 putts and that was with two 4 and 3 putts. But at least 2 of those were putts where no one in the world can 2 putt unless they hit the comeback from 10 feet. There were some bright points to the round however. Somewhere in the back 9 I relaxed and started to swing fluidly, without power, just flow, and it resulted in some great strikes. I also had 3 or 4 very good putts and I don't know if the greens slowed down a bit as the day passed or I got accustomed to them, but on the last 6 holes I only had 10 putts. And on the 18th hole which is a 500 yard par 5 a bit downhill I hit my first ever 300 yard drive. No wind help but downhill certainly helped. And it was in the fairway. So that left me with a 4 iron into the green and I was pin high on a hill next to the green about 20 yards to the pin. But the awkward lie made me blade the chip to the other side of the green and I couldn't hit a putt from there because the line was directly over a sprinkler head - long story short, chipping for eagle ended up with a bogey 🙂 But hey, I could really get used to 300 yard drives 🙂 but I guess I won't be hitting a lot of those for the foreseeable future 🙂

I’d move around the budged for the putter. When I started out I got a “free” bag of clubs. They were old Nike irons 4-PW a 3 hybrid, driver, 56 and 60 ancient vokey wedges and a taylormade Rossa putter. You could buy such a set for under $300. What I would do in your place is to look for a full used set, driver - putter. That should give you a decent set up for 500 bucks, probably much better than what you can buy individually for 500.

We are now allowed (from a Thursday) to play on every course in the country. The borders are still closed so no going abroad for the foreseeable future. I played 27 holes on Thursday and if all goes to plan I will play at least 4 times next week. After that I will probably be allowed to work again so I won’t be playing more than once or twice a month after that...

Yes I know they are I’m just saying they are pretty common over here. Two specific holes are interesting, two adjacent par 5s where from one side there are white stakes and from the other side there are green stakes. So when you go one way it’s ok to go on the other fairway and on the other way it’s OB.
-
Over here internal ob is very common. Actually I can’t think of a single course I played where on at least two holes the fairways weren’t split with OB stakes.

Played 27 holes today on two courses. On the first course I played 9 holes and shot a 7 over 41. That meant I shot 82 over consecutive 18 holes I played on a 68 par course. Of course I don’t count it as such but I had high hopes playing 18 in the afternoon. Let’s just say it went downhill really fast. Shot 104 with an excellent start of 13 over after 5 holes. Did manage to scrape and claw for 5 pars and two bogeys but the rest of the round was to be forgotten soon. Now the good thing is that even though I did 3 putt twice, my total putt number was 33. I did have a chip in for par from about 30 feet. But both the 3 putts were on really long first putts where the first putt actually wasn’t that bad but I did miss the comeback putts. Hopefully I’ll be able to play more in the coming weeks.

You remember all of your putts and lengths after your round?
-
Why I don’t put a lot of worth in the putting stat or why I don’t move the pins and putts positions? The answer to the first part is because I don’t do the second part 😁 the second part is - because I’m still too bad a golfer to keep up with that as well, taking out my phone, moving the putts and pin locations after every hole while pushing a cart... don’t know takes too much time, don’t want to slow everybody down.
-
Do you manually change your green positions during/after the round? I mean I use gamegolf but I just don’t really put a lot of worth in the putting stat as I don’t move the position of the pin and the exact position the ball on the green. I do change the on green/off green info when I remember

Again, the distance of the first putt is very important. If your average first putt is 30’ long then you are expected to 3 putt on 10-15% of times for an 80s golfer. If it’s 40’ then it goes up to 20-25%...I used to have a great putting average. Below 2.0. But I hardly hit any greens. So I thought my putting was great when in reality I was chipping decent enough to have a one putt here and there and I was chipping on nearly every hole. When I improved my long game I started hitting more greens but it left me with longer putts. So my 3 putt number shot up, as I really was a poor putter. I only have two 9 hole rounds this year but it seems like my putting has improved a lot over the winter and the drills I’ve been doing indoor. And remember, from 50’ even a tour pro will 3 putt 17% of the time. And they average under 2 putts only if their first putts are shorter than the 30”

First you need to make sure you are counting correctly. If you use your putter that doesn’t automatically make it a putt. So fringe “putts” and off the green “putts” don’t count into this statistic. If you only counted on green putts and hit 38 putts in a 81 score round than that is high. On the other hand you might be playing massive greens and if you shot so low you probably hit a lot of them and had several long putts. So though the number of putts in a round is somewhat telling it’s not as important as the average number of putts. And then again, the average won’t tell you a lot if your average first putt length is over 40’...

Yes that’s my priority with the hips but you made a great point of something that didn’t cross my mind. I was so focused on opening my hips I never paid attention to the shoulders. That’s also the reason I struggle to get a good amount of forward shaft lean. I’m not flopping anymore but I’d like more. This is an 8 iron at about 80% And this is the impact position when I do a 1/2 swing.

Also on par 3 courses most of the holes are pretty short. You don’t see many 180-200 yard par 3s there. My local one has one with 170 to the center of the green, two with about 130 and the rest are much shorter. When I play “real” courses some of the par 3s are over 200 yards from the mens tees. The longest being 225. And also on longer par 4s even if I’m hitting a driver 240-250 yards I still might have a 180 yard shot into the green. I’d love a par 3 course where all the holes are 120 yards and more.

Since you are a kid, there are 3 options. You’ll get good and to low single figures fast and you’ll continue to play competitively in college. You’ll get good and stop playing completely in or before college. Or you’ll stay in the 10-20 range, and continue to play sporadically. That’s what happens when you are a teenager.
-
Ok. Whatever. I’m either not getting my point across or you don’t want to understand what I’m trying to say. Either way carry on and I like your swing.

So it’s been 6 days since we are allowed to play courses that are inside the municipality of residence. I’ve played 2 9 hole rounds. The last 7 holes were 1 over par. And while my full swing shots were expectantly not on point, they did get much better with the progression of the second round. I also played 9 holes of the local par 3 course playing two balls finishing 8 or 10 over par. Not great but 3 greens are only about 8 yards deep so “dead center” is hard to do. Also managed to hit about 20 balls into a net after the round. So this current swing is giving me hope 😁 Don’t know why the video isn’t slow motion again...

Take my advice with caution (or not at all 😂) but I like the DTL swing I hate the way you do the drill. The main difference being that with the drill you don’t rotate the hips so what you do is push the elbow in front of your body instead of to the same relation to your body as with the full swing. I have been doing a variation of your drill for the past 2-3 months. The big difference (IMHO) is that my feel and execution is that the elbow is dropped behind the torso not driven in front.

Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
Killa replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
we did but with the current coronavirus situation we don’t actually apply it yet. Golf is just too limited. I’m limited to a shortish 9 hole course and a par 3 course but I’ll take what I can get. I do feel that I will be breaking 90 multiple times this summer as I’ve used this downtime to work on my weaknesses in short game and putting as these two were neglected in the past 3 seasons -
Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
Killa replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
Reviving a dead thread but who cares 🙂 I was wondering for all of you who say you break 100/90/80, do you count your esc scores or your actual scores? Do you ever say you broke 90 while picking up a ball on a hole? Just to clarify, I finally got the chance to go out now that the courses reopened and I shot a 41 on a 34 par 9 holes course. But the 41 was with a triple bogey on a par 3 hole 2 where I lost the ball where I was pretty sure I’ll find it and because the course was packed (30 days of lockdown will do that) I couldn’t go back to the tee. So I dropped a ball, penalty stroke and finished with a 6. I also had a regular triple bogey on the first par 4 so I was +6 on the first two holes, then went par, birdie, par, bogey, bogey, par, par to finish. But if we say strictly by the rulebook I don’t have a legal scorecard to sign... -
Courses reopened yesterday, played 9 today, playing 18 tomorrow. The overall play was better than expected not hitting a full shot outdoors for 4 months. Had problems with weight transfer and straight out missing the ball with my driver and badly topping it. Hopefully tomorrow I can hit 20 drives on the range before I go out. Chipping and putting were on point though...

I have bought 50 used pro v1s, prov1xs and avxs for 75€. I have yet to play them. They seem in pretty good condition.
