  1. Wow, didn't know so many people play with the baseball grip. My weird thing is more mental. When I think about what I do with my breathing when I swing, I get obsessive and lose it out there. It's been a problem for about a year now, but just can't solve it.
  2. I carry 47*/52*/56*. I don't really use the gap wedge that much, I like half and 3/4 swings with my 47*. The 56* sees a lot of action from 20-70 yards as well as in the rough around the green. I've never figured out how to use a 60* wedge effectively. The only time I can think of where it would be helpful for me is pitching over a sand trap to a shallow green from a tight lie, but how often does that happen.
  3. How about leaving moody pointless insulting rants off this site.
  4. Don't think you need to worry about them braking if they're installed well. I've had a few sets of graphite shafted irons, and now use steel. The graphite feels a lot lighter and I definitely got more distance. However, the light feel led to overswinging, and I lost accuracy with them. I don't think I'll go back to graphite shafts on irons, but that's just me personally.
  5. I shot an 80 earlier this year at Isleta Eagle golf course (68.2/122). My short game came through for me that day, I didn't hit the ball any better than I do when I put up a high 80's round.
  6. I've heard of stuff like this too. Some people are just really talented, and have a knack for the game. Hard for me to imagine, but then again, it's hard to believe that some people run a 4.3 40 yard dash.
  7. I have the 09 Burner and went through the exact same thing. Had it cut down, still hated it, and eventually just replaced the shaft.
  8. Same here. I just accept whatever swing I've brought to the course and work with it. When I'm at the range, I'll think of something here and there, but mostly focus my practice on developing touch.
  9. I think it kind of depends on how far you hit your 5 wood, and how long the courses are where you play. I think keeping it in the fairway is more important than those extra yards you get with the driver if your drives are inconsistent. And if the gap between your 3 and 5 woods is only 10 yards, I say take the 3 wood out and just play with the 5.
  10. I haven't been able to play much since I've been busy. Hit a really cold streak in July but started getting my swing back in August, and am playing well right now. My handicap has hovered around 16 all summer, but this fall I should be able to get out more, hopefully drop it a few points before the end of the year.
  11. I'd agree with the general consensus, don't buy them if you don't like them. One question though, what makes you think you need new irons? You are making great progress with your current ones, so why mess with a good thing? I would only change irons if you see your current ones as having a limitation that impedes your ability to score, and to a different set that clearly overcomes it.
  12. I'll play. My usual course is Arroyo del Oso in Albuquerque, NM. From the middle tees (70.2/128) I have averaged ~93 this year. The reds (70.0/120) are significantly shorter, so I should find myself using more short irons into greens, which should mean a few more GIR's. I think it will make a big difference. I'm guessing I'll shot an 87.
  13. I second all of this. The G15's will cost you big money right away though. I would go used off ebay for your first set, Callaway X series or something like that. You will spend ~$150. From there, your golf game will develop, you will see things you like/don't like about your irons, and make a better decision on what you want to buy long term when you are a little better.
  14. Been switching between a couple of older Ping putters for awhile now. I found a real old one recently in my parents basement and loved the weighting and simple look, so I threw a new grip on there and it's in the bag right now.
  15. Sell your Firesole's on ebay, that will give you ~$120 according to valueguide.pga.com. Add that to your original $200 you are willing to spend and get a set of G10's or something like that off ebay.
  16. I practice this shot, but then always wuss out when I have the opportunity to try in on the course. It does look really cool I must admit.
  17. 115 with 51*, full swing.
  18. One-hopped a 20 yard chip in, and put a 120 yard shot from the rough within a foot a couple holes later.
  19. Way to practice your short game, I'd be willing to bet with your dedication you will improve quickly. As far as the flop shot goes, I personally think there are better uses of your practice time than working on it. I've used it maybe 5 times in 30 rounds so far this year. I do practice it when I'm messing around on the range but have found that on the course, the risk/reward scenario almost never balances out for me. I'll hit it well 75% of the time in practice, but have trouble controlling distance and the 25% that I don't hit it well usually ends up disastrous. By the way, I'm not concluding that no one should ever hit or practice the flop shot, just that in my experience as a golfer it has not been helpful.
  20. Golf = My addictive masochistic distraction.
  21. Can't go wrong with any of them. Callaway clubs hold their value pretty well, if I were picking I would go with the BB's. Also look into some older Ping models, they really hold their value and are very forgiving.
  22. 4 hybrid, 8 iron, sand wedge, and just blade the Sw to putt.
  23. Pretty good deal. But with some ebay scouting you may be able to find them around the same price again.
  24. Make sure you pay attention to the bounce of the wedge your considering. You want a good amount of bounce in a wedge used in the sand, and many lob wedges don't have much.
