  1. You could try to buy just one sleeve of different balls, instead of buying the whole 12 or 24 pk box. I know this limits you in what you can try, but it's one solution. The other recommendation would be to ask your friends what they are hitting and if you can try one on a hole or two while you're playing a round. Either way, I know your frustration with find "your ball." Good luck on the search!
  2. Nice...I like that....next time someone gives me a hard time....I'm using this response. Thanks!
  3. I do use iron covers. Never did until this year, after purchasing the AP1s. I had heard, and witnessed, how easy they ding up and decided I'm going to sport the head covers for a while. Call me a wuss if you will, I just want to keep them looking nice for as long as possible. It's a shame they ding so easily, really.
  4. I've been hitting my driver well all season long - until I changed grips two weeks ago. I had the standard thin Callaway factory grip on and was hitting well. Switched to the mid-size Winn DSI AVS V17 and now I have a consistant power fade/mild slice. (it starts going right at the height of my trajectory). Could this be caused by changing grip size? Should I switch back to the thin factory grip? I haven't noticed any changes in my swing. Your advice would be appreciated!
  5. I do not understand this statement. If you are to swing down on a ball, you are going to graze the mat with the edge of the underside of the club - sometimes leaving mat residue. I just lick my thumb and rub the marks (just once, to get a little mositure on it) and then use my towl and they come right off.
  6. I've always been a Titleist guy when it comes to irons. I like their simple, straight-forward approach and their focus on "tradition." I suppose I also like them because of their name - which for me inspires confidence - and that, I think, helps my game.
  7. I've always loved my Callaway drivers and fairway woods. For my game, I find them more forgiving than other brands. And I like the way they sound, look, and setup at address.
  8. My "home course" is Braemar in Edina (neighboring soutwest suburb of Minneapolis). It is a very nice public course. Play the backside-holes 10-27. If you want to do a quick executive 9 - Braemar also has that. Additionally, there is a little hidden executive 9 course in Edina that is also owned by Braemer/City of Edina called Fred Richards. An excellent value and typically not very busy. Dwan in Bloomington (another southwest suburb) is also a nice public course - but is often times very busy. As mentioned above, the City of Minneapolis has a handful of muni courses. Most are in ok shape and a decent value - but typically pretty busy. If you want to travel a little bit, I would highly recommend the semi-private course of Mississippi Dunes in Cottage Grove. (about 30 mins south-east of Minneapolis). It is a links style course and sits along side the Mississippi River. Some great scenic holes, nice wild life, very well maintained, and quite challenging.
  9. I resisted hybrids for a long time, but finally broke down and bought one today. I've been hitting my 5 woods really irradically off the fairway this year (ok in the rough) and never been consistant with my 4 iron, so I broke down and got a 3h Nickent Ironwood. Let's hope for the best!
  10. I am a Callaway guy when it comes to woods. I've always found them more forgiving then other brands - but that's just me, of course. I am not a fan, however, of the Diablo. I don't like the angled headshape. And if I don't like the way it sets up, I'm not going to have any confidence in striking the ball. That's my 2 cents.
  11. my 56 degree Vokey sand wedge. I don't know why. I carry a pitching wedge, and Vokey 52 and 60 degree wedges, but that 56 degree is like butter for me. I feel like I can put the ball anywhere I want with it.
  12. I use to play the standard Maxfli Noodle, but last year started playing the Maxfli "Softest" Noodle. I love them. Seems I loose some distance, but I hit 'em straight, they feel good around the greens and put pretty nice. Anyone else play the "Softest" Noodle? I'm curious how they might compair to the Nike One Black/Platinum.
  13. I like Titleist irons & wedges, Callways drivers/woods, and Noodle "Softest" golf balls. I am extremely brand loyal. Has nothing to do with "apperances" or trying to be a snob with a particular brand....I just simply find something I like and stick with it. For me it's a comfort thing. And comfort means confidence. I'm like that with a lot of things I'm passionate about - instruments, fishing gear, etc... If a brand has always done right by me, I stick with it.
