  1. Day 504 Working with the driver, primarily, slow practice in hitting 25 shots, I concentrated on full follow through to avoid sending them off to the left. Fair success. with minimal loss of yardage. Will have a full set run through early tomorrow if rains hold!
  2. Day 503 Cool clear day 30 shots with the wedges. Good at the distances and targets. Tomorrow: Driver and 3w.
  3. When I first started golf, a local course had very few traps I recall. It was still a difficult route with wild rough of varying length, narrow fairways, and rolling hills. The two or three traps it had were wonderfully maintained, deep and in front of greens on par 3s. I learned more on the topic of planning and playing a course there than I did on the courses that had many traps.
  4. Day 502 Finally back to a range! Mainly wedges and 20 smacks each. Felt good; I will return to to full plan tomorrow!
  5. Day 501 Rain is ending, so after a day of physical warmups, and putting, tomorrow I should e ale to lite up the range
  6. Day 500 Yesterday, today and even tomorrow will result in indoor putting due to rare rain in Maricopa County, AZ. Perhaps on Friday late I will it the range!
  7. Day 499 Rain rain go away! I could only putt indoors today! Still, got some fun work in.
  8. Day 498 Again, tryng to figure out the most usual settings for the G410+, So far, I can adjust for my slight look. I am looking to correct far too much rise on the drives. Taking nites and videoing often, I attacking taking a controlled approach. 35 whacks today, all videoed. More tomorrow!
  9. Day 497 Quick 25 with driver. Adjustment to loft seem to make for a lower flight apex. Distances was good. Fun morning!
  10. Day 496 25 smacks w/re-done 50º excellent loft, speed around 100, great distance! 35 its w/driver. speed around 100. Made adjustment to lower loft. Results were quite acceptable.
  11. Day 494/495 This is a mea maxima culpa as my computer decided to go down last evening. My work was the same. I decided to change the shaft on my 50 wedge last week and Ping returned it on Thursday. I now have a graphite sr flex as opposed to the steel "wedge shafts" Ping use, at first, on the Glide 2.0. During warm up swings, after the Orange Whip was used, it did not seem all that different. By the tie I took say 20 swigs with no ball to hit, I began to feel both the slightly lighter weight and a bit of the SR feel. The true test, especially for this club, was to see if both ball speed and ability to control aim seemed better. Ball speed shot up 10% from 88 on average to 96. Yardage went to a consistent 95-110 with no more than 7' off line. The results were almost exactly the same yesterday and today. As I use this club as my pitching wedge, the results have been more than pleasing. More practice will really set this weapon in as I do need to adjust my thoughts to cover a more exacting use of this club. I suspect I may change my 56 for the same reasons.
  12. In order get better results, I, as some have mentioned here, really got comfortable with each club's primary (average) distance. As a result, I no longer carry a 5i, as the combination of my 4h and 5h readily takes care of the "missed" distances and loft is covered was well. Because my 3h is currently a real SOB, I have removed it. I sometimes use my 9i in place of my PW, or visa versa, depending on the situation and what I need to avoid, or simply how I feel my body is helping or interfering on a given day. I am now finding I have a gap that will have me adding an 8i very soon. Long ago, in the Neolithic age of the late 60s, I was taught that which club I use is personal; that learning what my club does for me is the first thing. So I never worried about what others used or some optimal configuration. I have also added clubs from other makers or even different lines by the same maker to solve an individual problem. So if you basically like you set, I would replace problems rather than set. You may need a fitter to point you in the right direction. That is my 2¢ and what works for me.
  13. When I got back to golf, it was also in AZ. In the very hot months the number of times I play or even do lengthy range sessions is WAY cut back (in part because my Dr Recommends it). Even in great weather (today was 81º), I try to hit a round 1 or 2 at most times a week. I need to keep it from seeming a chore. The temptation is to play every day and perhaps if money allowed I would play more.
  14. No more than 2 rounds. Otherwise when there is visible and felt damage to the ball.
  15. I play with two gloves and remove them at green side for last chips and putting. I were 2 gloves as my right hand suffers with arthritis. Glove allows the fingers re-oritent themselves that I am ablate make a fairly solid grip.
  16. Day 494 Today was primarily a family day, so I was limited to Orange Whip® for 15minutes or stand 20 minutes putting on the mat.
  17. Day 493 Decided I need to practice trap work! Used my 56º and 60º in various trap situations from deep sand with green 10 yards away to even deeper sand with the lip directly in front of me. I could say that all went well, but Santa would have to add me to his naughty list. I would say 60% were acceptable but I tended to not get enough spin for the way the shots landed. The runner stayed on the green but left me with very long putts.
  18. Day 492 More a day of keeping loose than anything specific. Still, I primarily worked with 6i and 7i to continue to work on keeping the hook at bay. Results were OK but nothing special. Still felt good after 25 shots.
  19. Palm Valley North/South 18 holes Red Tees 65.0/105. 5400 yards. The very best I have ever played any variation of the course. Wonderful weather and good pace of play, we zipped along quite well. Score: 88 with 6 Pars, 8 Bogies, 4 Doubles, 6 Penalties, 2 sand saves, with 11% GIR and 79% FIR. I put most of the of the gain in accuracy on the improved strikes with the Ping G410+ and some serious work with accuracy with my irons. Allowing for handicap, I hit a 73 and came in 3rd. First time with these guys, acquaintances from the range. Best shots got me on to the green for a possible birdie on a par five, missed the first slightly right and sank the sphere on a hole I have been known to get an 8 on.
  20. DAY 491 Solid pre-match warm up, 25 whacks with 6i, 7i, 4h and driver. all were straight but I would've loved longer. They were not bad but I guess I desired more! (Don't we all, always) General results, 88, 30 putts, 11% GIR, 79% FIR, 6 penalties. Very very happy, last time on this route I shot a 105. Straight driver helped a LOT, it was the wedges at about 60-80 yards that were off and often short. Back to the lab, Pinky! We are not yet ready to conquer the world! See other forum for more detailed results!
  21. Day 490! Well, it was good as I did a morning of final prep for the match tomorrow. 18 holes on a course where I barely break 100! Once quickly through the bag! All clubs showed an improved line of the shots over the hooks that come into play when I go on auto pilot. This is the BIG fault in my geezer/hacker technique. I was happy, in particular, with my hybrids and 6i, which will be needed on this course. Wedges were MUCH more on target, especially in the sand trap practice time. The course I am playing has only a few pre-green traps and not too great of a lip in the green traps. I will do my human-limited best to avoid them. The biggest accuracy gain was in my driver. While I did not measure it, my AoA seemed a bit better, longer lower action with better post re-entry roll. On this course, if you drive straight, you are in a good position to do well on every hole. Will get a bit of pre-round putting in tonight, at home. May Friday's game not be destroyed by my slight overconfidence my technique and clubs!
  22. Day 489 45 minutes working on the hook from irons. Focus on everything from grip, to swing (looking at video), to foot position, to hips and followthrough. By the end, I was not hooking nearly as much as before, Tomorrow I will be double checking how much I remember! I need to be ready for a friendly trio match on Friday! Tally-Ho!!!
  23. I have changed a number of older shafts on my irons to what Ping calls a soft regular from either stiff clubs or a overly flexible shaft that were added by a previous owner. I gained a good similar feel throughout the bag. Within my set of irons and wedges, I have many shots marked SR When I upgraded from my venerable Ping G5 to my G410+, I went with the new Alta CB 55 SR. The difference in the shafts, for me is amazingly positive. High launch is now owner operator error and not the fault of the weapon. Though for my son, the same combination is almost like golfing with a bull whip! In short, make your clubs what works for you. I have most trustworthy shop I go to for new clubs, shaft changes, grips, souname it. I'm lucky that they will also fit, with monitors as need be, almost every option. Without going into too much detail, I now have a set of newer Ping clubs with shaft and grip changes that work for my game.
  24. Day 488 It is amazing how seemingly small adjustments are able to present big results. With my irons 7i, 6i and 9i, I have been drifting left. So today I worked on three minor adjustments. 1) Made sure I had the ball properly spaced in terms if distance from he body and between feet. And I worked to make sure I can get that position 95% of the time. 2) Made sure I addressed the ball in a position to allow me to be much more likely to hit the sweet spot of the club. This includes making sure I am not overly out of good positioning for the loft of the club. 3) Making sure I have a good hip turn with solid follow through towards the target. Looked and felt good in terms of results. All irons had great flights and for the 6i and 7i good roll and with the 9i a really nice drop and stop. I also took some time with the new boomer. My ball speed is nearing 120 consistently. While my full drive results were good at 200-210, I was still capable of a great looking drive that ended up closer to 190. I have a few things I will try this week. But the one thing the G410+ has given me is growing confidence that I will not be hurt with the driver.
