  1. Day 470 Finally! No back pain! So I decided to concentrate only on my short(er) game: 9i, 60º, 56º 50º plus chips at green side. The reason I stated with my 60º is that with focus on loft shots, I knew I would be using s shorter swing that would not sully stress on my back. The 5 lofts were what they should be, high loft, on target and minimal roll. I was off to a good start. My 56º was not too good at first. Let's just say it was really sloppy. So I took time to sit and think of what I was doing. It ended up that I was not really swinging through the ball, and I was playing that ball too far back. So I moved on to the 50º and 9i. They were good. In fact, no complaints at all. The 9i in particular gave the loft need to have minimal roll even at distances greater that 120 yards. The 50º was good as well. I tend to want a bit of after roll from that club. I was very happy with that. So back to the 56º for 10 more whacks. The adjustment I thought through worked well. I finished with 5 from the tee with my driver. Settled in well. One mis- hit a bit too far left, but others were very good.
  2. Day 469 In order to not stress out my back too much, I spent 15 minutes hitting light chips in my yard. Got nice soft chips of 5 to 15 feet. I focused on loft and roll. Will take to a practice green tomorrow.
  3. Day 468 Started off well with my 50º. Good everything. But after the third swing with my 5h, I pulled a muscle in my back and it brought the day to a halt before I really got going. Home to rest and bathe in Tiger Balm. Until tomorrow then!
  4. Day 467 Today's practice weapons were: Driver, 6i, 7i and 91. After a really focused warm-up to get the body awake and, with use of my Orange Whip® to get the flow right, I was ready to go. First club used got me off to a great start. Shots were well on line, great loft. Really great looking shots with not too bad speed. The only frustration came from distance. For a 6i, I was fairly disappointed. I usually got significantly better distance. So I put the club back in the bag and came to the conclusion that, for a 9i, the shots were really good! Yes, I had been swinging a 9i, not my 6i. Lack of coffee plain and simple! But, it drove home how much I need to not over think and allow the club to do the work! I then hit the 6i and was very happy with those results. Got the distances expected, as well. My 7i was better than it had been behaving. Some bit of a left hook, but nothing too out of line. Driver was one of the best days in a while, though instead of a nice draw, a few were exaggerated a bit too much. I think 85-90% of the whacks were more that playable (one wild slice, two worm burners). If I am happy with 85%+ of my shots, I should have a good game.
  5. Today was a scheduled 18 at my local course. Weather was very favorable, teed off at 65º, though, being AZ, it did warm up to upper 80s when I finished Of the available course options, for some reason, I choose the one that demanded the most accuracy. ~5,700 from the forward tees. 73.2 rating, 119 slope. Water all over the place. More than a few trees and traps, but none came into play today. Score was 90. 38 putts (missed way too many "short"), hit 8 fairways, 4 GIR, BUT 12 penalty shots as I sent 3 drives swimming (was able to "recover" two from a watery graves) and one OB by a lot. Way too many bogies were interspersed with 3 pars and a 3 double bogies. Most of my not good shots were off the tee; I had not really focused on it in the last 2 - 3 weeks. Way too many shots ended left and distance was only so so. Good work with my 4h, but too many of those shots were true recovery.
  6. DAY 456 Hitting week with nothing else on my schedule, and, nothing is expected. So a week when I am able to focus on my golf. Today was a planned round at one of my local courses. So "practice" was, in fact, my pregame warm up. Driver go great distance but I was pulling it left on most shots. 4h was solid, as was the dreaded 7i.
  7. Day 453 Second day focusing on my 71. It did the trick. Everything became more predictable. Loft was good; it was not too high. Aim was within 5-8 yards either way of the target. Distance was a consistent 130-145 yards.
  8. Day 452 My work with suicide prevention kept megrim posting yestardy. But I did some swing wrk with a mirror,' My morning allowed a solid 90 minutes at the range. After a good warm-up, including the Orange Whip®, was followed by focus on my short game, 50º, 60º, 9i, and 7i in that order. About 15 with each an I could not be happier. Only iffy club was the 7i and the fault was ball position. When I focused with allowing it not to be too back, distance, loft and direction was solid.
  9. Day 451 Driver and 3w day, 15 on each. With the driver, I worked on not grounding the ball during the address to keep my swing from bouncing first. I don't do that often, but the last time on a link, I did it twice causing my OB hits. Went well, great speed and distance off the tee was better than I usually do. Very little off line. 3w was good but it took a bit to get the loft I was hoping for, but I did not practice this weapon for some time, so it was rusty.
  10. Day 450 Family plans for the day has limited me to physical warm-ps and some swings with the Orange Whip®. Tomorrow will be a once through the bag day.
  11. Day 439 Only time or 20 shots, so decided to use the driver. Good loft, and some solid distance. speed averaging 110, 205 distance. Direction, ok with a few slightly left, a few slightly right but all good for next shot.
  12. Day 438 Had some spare time today so I took time to really hit my 7i. I have begun to feel comfortable with the new grip. That took longer than I thought it would. I out the same grip on my 4h and felt it was perfect by the second swing. I changed to a Golf Pride with a bit less tapering because of a need for my right hand. Seemed to work well for the hybrid. Still feels a bit off on the 7i, so worked to get a better handle on it. (Pun intended, sorry.) Made the club feel heavier even though the weight of the club did not change. Now the older grip was showing serious wear, so it might be simply getting back to "normal" After 25 whacks, I began getting the loft, distance and direction better in order. I seem to have a fuller control the club and it feels very comfortable. My arthritis is not even noticed. I was fitted for the grip, as well. Should be a solid fix after this weekend.
  13. Dat 437 Light work to after round yesterday. Worked on not over powering my 71. Mainly a lot of "think before you swing". Much better in terms of line, Speed was down about 5mph but it wasn't that much of yardage lost.
  14. 18 holes today at a course I am very familiar with, and, the results showed that well. I played the forward tees today, which I always have used. So, the yardage today was 5875. Due to the storms of the past few days, there was some casual water, but none of it came into play for me this round. Score was 82 (10 over Par). This was the frustration of the day, a few better shots here or there I could have beaten 80! Still, this was the best score of the year 2019 so far. I hit 50% of fairways, another best for me. And I have become harder on myself in counting fairways for myself. This aspect has faltered due to poor direction for the last few months. When I missed a fairway it was from controllable reasons. Of the 4 par three holes, I landed two really drives in good position in the greens. 4 GIR total. 33 putts total 5 of which were close but no cigars on the longest lines. I saved par on 5 primarily to some good putting. 7 of the tee shots were fairly off line, and I had 3 OB from the tee. As well, I sent one swimming just off the green. So penalties were, for me, way too plentiful! I am working to be ready for a seniors open tournament in November
  15. Day 436 Had a chance put in some range work prior to driving a short distance to my round. Started off with a fine spray, in terms of direction. Much of that was due to trying to hard to warm up. Sat down and took another draw or 5 of the coffee I brought along. Then went up concentrating on only two physical actions: head steady and in-out actions. Results were much better. Used my 7i, 4h, wedges and driver only in the warmups. Distance and lift-off was really good. I just need to not over hit if I really want to limit the ball off the club! Now, off to battle!!
  16. Day 435 Round rescheduled for tomorrow!! So, a quick quasi through the bag employing my driver, 6i, 7i, 4h, 5h, and the wedges. I was happy with about 80-85% for the whacks and most of the others, save 2 slices out of nowhere (or so it seemed) would not have been so off as to add an extra a stroke or 2 to recover. So my delay from Monday now becomes a match on Wednesday. Range work is helping me develop muscle memory to join up to my brain. Should be fun in he AM!!!
  17. Day 434 Well, I did get about 25 minutes in, but conditions were, shall we say interesting. My round was washed out due to storms moving through the area. A few hours later the weather cleared enough for me to go to the range. Decided to work on feeling one with my 7i with its new grip. It does not taper as much as the older grip and that is good for my very arthritic right had It is staring to feel very solid and I have been getting good results. However, just as I was getting going, we started having very high winds. They even got strong enough to have the matts on the upper deck go flying. So, I took it as a sign for me to call it a day. Not sure if Pooh would have liked this blustery day!
  18. Day 433 5 shots each trough the bag; session was filmed. One of my biggest problems started to make itself manifest: rising up as I finish my swing. After feeling it and then confirming it on the video, I was able to mitigate it to a good extent. Clubs were within expectation for range and I was able to keep direction within expected range so that I think, on the course scheduled for tomorrow, I would have not (probably) hit any OB. Ready as I can expect to be given this old frame of mine.
  19. Day 432 30 minutes with the putter, primarily working on hitting the ball squarely and through the putt. Have too much of a habit of not continuing through. Greens were a bit difficult for me today, the course changed the locations of the holes on the practice green and I could not simply trust memory.
  20. Day 431 Straight Driver Day! 25 strikes, generally quite good. Nice speed about 100 all day. Few wildly off line, though some serious pulls left on say 5 of them. Between 185 and 210 with majority in the 195 range. Good loft gave me good roll. Feel really ready for next round
  21. Day 430 Solid work in the traps. From barely visible buried ones to some gently resting almost flat in shallow dusty grit. Not all shots were perfect and quite a few said in their own way "Try Again" End result was 1/2 hour of work in this area with what I would call a 75-80% success rate
  22. Day 429 As my appointments ended early, I went to do a little wedge work. I took time to hit 8 shots will each of wedges and my 9i. I simply took time to relax, think about each shot, and try to simply do it. All were well within the expectations for each club; the aim was fairly good, for me, all were very close to the target. I am still wondering why today was a good day., give how iffy my morning was!
  23. Day 428 Again, schedule allowed no range work or game. 15 minutes of body stretches which were golf designed followed up with 10 swings with the Orange Whip® were all I will get in today.
  24. Day 427 Only a few (5) minutes or so available today. Quick work on my hip turn and weight shift actions. Able to do about 25 reps in front of a mirror. Added a few shoulder turns while holding a club.
  25. Day 446 The 7i/w is starting hit its stride. I was getting a nice, for now, 85-90 speed with the loft solid at, I would surmise, 15' - 20'. Direction was good enough to finally be something not to worry about this morning. As to my re-gripped clubs, they are feeling good enough that the re-grip seems almost a non-issue. I felt I had more control with no real club motion or shift in the hands. I had been feeling some shift in the older grips. I did not need to hold on quite as hard to keep the shift/spinning in the hands from happening. I will re-grip the 9i, 5h and driver. The following week will be the wedges. The practice today was in short, results I expected (hoped for), minimal tension in hands and swings. I left, in a quest to obtain more coffee, a fairly happy golfer.
