  1. It was great to see CH3 with his usual top-five finish at the Sony Open. Now if he can just figure out how to play that well the rest of the season, he will be in luck! I do expect him to be much more consistent than he was last season, but I'm just not sure he will ever fully get it together. I'm hopeful he gets back to the winner's circle though. As for Henley, he played outstanding this past week. He definitely deserved the win, and it will be interesting to see how he handles the spotlight. I'm not sure he will be as great as some have said, but he will be a very solid player for years to come.
  2. He did what he was expected to do this past weekend against inferior competition (other than Oosthuizen who withdrew), and it really didn't move the needle much for me. The fact he won the past two weeks and only moved from 29th to 14th in the World Rankings tells the story, but congrats to Schwartzel nonetheless. A win is a win, and I'm sure it was satisfying to him all the same. I'm interested to see how he does in the big events in 2013.
  3. I'd probably choose Paul Azinger every time if I was in charge. That being said, Tom Watson is a very good selection and will have the United States team ready to go when it matters most. I'm not sure it really matters though because the Europeans will be the favorites either way and rightfully so. It's still early though, and who knows who all will be playing well/poorly by then. The fact it has created so much discussion already proves just how big the event has become. It's good to see.
  4. Great news for Adam Scott! I won't be surprised if he finally wins a major in the next year or two if Stevie stays on his bag. As for Tiger, this isn't a huge surprise. He might as well start fresh with everything and go from there. I can't really think of any caddies who will be a great fit for him, but I'm sure he won't have a problem finding one like jamo mentioned above. Stevie seemed to be perfect for Tiger's mentality, so it will be interesting to see how he meshes with his new caddy.
  5. Stricker's finish was very cool to watch, and it's always nice to see him in the winner's circle. Every time he gets there, you can tell how truly happy and emotional he is! Kyle Stanley has a great future ahead of him, but Stricker is playing great right now. Also, how about that Charles Howell III? His last three tournaments have resulted in T3, T3, and T5. The three tourneys weren't the biggest and best by any means, but who cares?!? Maybe he will pull a rabbit out of his hat and at least make the cut this weekend at Royal St. Georges.
  6. That's a very cool article, and it's one of the reasons I'm a huge fan of watching golf. It's nice not having to worry whether or not there will be a season. Like Erik said, I'd love to see some of the golfers more often throughout the year, but I'll take what I get.
  7. It's going to be a great final day at Doral, and there are several young guns who will be battling it out for the win. I'll be pulling for Mahan of course, but I like Dustin Johnson and Nick Watney as well. McIlroy and Donald can always go low as well. I never get sick of Miller to be honest. He is by far the best color guy in golf, and I've felt that way for a number of years. He is so much easier to listen to than Faldo it's not even funny. That's my opinion though. I've always been a fan of the entire NBC crew.
  8. Living in Oklahoma, I see this all the time with tornadoes. It's one thing for the storm chasers to get paid to follow the twisters, but the people who have no clue what they are doing and feel like being cool have gotten themselves in trouble a number of times. When I saw the videos this morning of the people in Japan, I was thinking the same thing. Put the phone or camera down and find safety! On a side note, my wife flew into Hawaii last night with a couple members of her family, and she was greeted with the sirens going off at 2 or 3AM her first morning there. Needless to say, my stomach was definitely in knots when I woke up and read the news. Luckily, things didn't get too bad in Hawaii.
  9. I'll probably join, but you might want to get this moved to the sports forum. It might get a little more feedback there, and more might join up. I'm looking forward to March Madness as usual.
  10. Is Adam Scott's putter long enough? That's definitely the most important question of the day. Whatever works I guess, but I just can't get behind the golfers who use the long putters. He is definitely playing well though. Mahan is still doing his thing though, so that's good news. The weekend is setting up for some excitement.
  11. He had two in round one, and he had two in round four. So yeah, he had all four at last year's Masters. That still baffles me!
  12. Hunter Mahan looked nearly unstoppable in his 15 holes today, but there is obviously a long way to go. I'm hoping the course dries out somehow and starts getting some payback on the golfers before the weekend is over. If not, we will definitely start seeing some record scores at Doral. By the way, was anyone else baffled by the fact Tiger hasn't made an eagle since the 2010 Masters?!? That's one of the craziest stats I've seen so far during the "Tiger slump."
  13. I finally tried Yuengling about 6 months ago after hearing a lot of great things about it. It's a good beer, but it isn't the best lager I've had. For the lager fans out there, you all need to try James Boag's if you haven't already. I've tried a number of lagers the last few years, and it's still number one on my list. Hoegaarden is still my favorite overall beer though, but James Boag's is a close second. Another really good beer is Kwak. It's pretty damn expensive, but it's well worth it.
  14. I agree with you to a certain extent, but you can't tell me it will feel the same between the ropes as it would if Tiger was playing alongside the Molinari brothers or something. There is definitely going to be a little different vibe than the first couple days usually produce, and I'm looking forward to it. I agree the guys won't necessarily be trying to outdo the others in the group, but I guarantee there will be a touch more motivation within those big-time groups. Regardless of how Tiger is driving it right now, I guarantee he will come out ready to go knowing Mickelson is in his group. I'm pretty excited about the pairings, and I'd like to see more of the big events go with the same approach.
  15. I still think Tiger is a couple weeks away from being a major contender, but he is always capable of winning this event. He has played really well at Doral in the past, and there isn't any reason he won't play somewhat decent golf this week. As far as a winner goes, the first two golfers who come to mind are Graeme McDowell and Martin Kaymer. They are playing well as of late, and they have plenty of game to win at this venue. Hunter Mahan is another guy who comes to mind because of his great overall golf game. He is long and straight enough off the tee to put himself in great position, and his iron play is usually solid as well. If he can putt well, he will be a factor.
  16. I can't gripe about those pairings. It's basically the same style they went with at the U.S. Open a couple years ago, and that made for great TV. I'm sure one group will be in the afternoon Thursday, and the other group will be in the afternoon Friday. It's pretty rare you get a field with every golfer currently in the top 50 in the World Rankings, but this week in Doral will have one. If that's not enough to move the excitement meter, I don't know what is.
  17. Yeah, I'll be getting it for the PS3 because that's the only system I currently have. I also like the fact the Collector's Edition comes with 5 extra courses for only $10 more. If I had to choose between the 360 and Wii, I'd have to go with the 360 version. I'm honestly not a huge fan of the motion controls. I kinda like sitting down and playing my golf games.
  18. It's been a little odd to see him struggle because his talent level is up there with the best in golf. I still think he will end the season in the top five in the World Golf Rankings, but he definitely needs to get going here pretty soon. He has a pretty decent game for Augusta, and he has obviously been close in majors the last year. His game should also set up pretty well for Doral, so he may get things going this weekend. Either way, the guy has a ton of talent and should become a factor again sooner rather than later. I can easily see him being the #1 golfer at some point during the next couple years.
  19. I guess I've never really learned much about Foley, but this interview definitely puts him at the top of my list of golf people. I love the fact he is honest, and he doesn't dodge any question about anything. I've always been a fan of Sean O'Hair and Hunter Mahan, but I've never really looked into their swing coach much. I'm going to start following Foley a little more because I respect his honest nature on things. I've never been a fan of Tiger, but I'm hoping he gets to the top of the rankings again with the help of Foley. That will prove all the detractors wrong if nothing else. Great read.
  20. Lee Westwood is definitely the best golfer without a major right now, and the fact he has come so close the last couple years will add more pressure until he wins one. He had a great Masters last year, and he will be a factor again if he can figure out his putting over the next few weeks. Sergio was at the head of the list for awhile, but it looks like it may be awhile before he even plays well in a major. I still hold out hope he gets things back together because he was as fun to watch as anyone when his iron game was on. Others on the list include Paul Casey, Luke Donald, and Steve Stricker. As far as the best golfer to never win one, it almost has to be Colin Montgomerie. I know he might still end up playing in a couple, but he probably won't contend again. It's a shame because he definitely put himself in position to win one on more than one occasion. I'm not sure why, but I always wanted him to win a major.
  21. I think I read something in the past that says the PS3 disc can hold more content than the 360 one, and that's why the CE is only available for PS3. We get Turnberry if we pre-order from Gamestop, but I'd honestly rather have Bethpage Black. I can't remember what five courses are extras on the CE, but I think a couple of them are fantasy courses (Highlands is one I think). I think Torrey Pines and Pinehurst may be 2 others.
  22. They are definitely going to release several more courses for download. If you get the Collector's Edition for the PS3 (not sure about the 360), you get 5 more golf courses for only $10 more. That's a pretty good deal, and it's one of the reasons I'll be getting the Collector's Edition. In addition, those extra courses will be implemented into the career mode this time around. That's a change that is LONG overdue. Jamo, I agree with you about things turning around the last couple versions. They were completely lost the first few games on the next-gen consoles, but the last couple have been pretty darn good. I'm really looking forward to this one because Augusta National has been on the wish list for a long time, and it looks like the career mode may be improved as well. I'm looking forward to the demo release tomorrow. I'll definitely be back with some impressions as long as the difficulty can be tweaked.
  23. I'm not a Rory Sabbatini fan, but it sounds like his last six months to a year has been pretty rough at home. The pregnancy problems his wife went through along with his skin cancer issue made this a pretty emotional victory. He played awesome in the second and third round, and he did enough in the final round. He may not be one of the most popular golfers on the PGA Tour, but I think his story surely touched a few fans this past weekend. Hell, I was actually pretty happy for the guy, and I've said my fair share of negative things about him in the past.
  24. The Presidents Cup replaces The Ryder Cup in this year's game, and I'm sure The Ryder Cup will be back for next year's game. The weird thing is they added a few European players to the game instead of International guys which really doesn't make any sense. Oh well, I'm looking forward to playing this one either way. I can't wait to see how Augusta National looks in HD, and having Rickie Fowler in the game wearing all orange is a plus as well.
  25. I agree MJ or Justin Timberlake would be great choices, if nothing else than for the ratings situation. I watched all the first season, but I really didn't watch much of the last two because I could care less about Ray Romano and Rush Limbaugh. I definitely want to see another athlete on the show. If it ends up being more than one person on the next season, that could be interesting as well.
